Leadership Lake Tahoe is a ten-month-long course held every two years on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe. It began in 2003 with a mission to identify and develop current and future leaders through a comprehensive program designed to increase knowledge and awareness of the issues and challenges facing our community. At the beginning, the program was sponsored by the Tahoe Douglas Chamber and South Lake Tahoe Chamber, they merged a few years later and became the Tahoe Chamber (or Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce).

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The threat of the coronavirus COVID-19 has prompted more events and activities to be postponed or canceled in the South Lake Tahoe area. At this time there are no confirmed cases in El Dorado, Douglas, or Carson City counties.

Leadership Lake Tahoe 2020 has rescheduled the Pints for a Cause! fundraising event supporting the Art on the Edge community art project from tomorrow to Friday, April 10 from 6PM -9PM at South Lake Brewery Co.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The community is invited to support the Leadership Lake Tahoe Class of 2020 at the Pints for a Cause Fundraiser on March 13 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at South Lake Brewing Company. Leadership participants will be pouring beers at South Lake Brewing Company to raise money and awareness for their collective class project.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Barton Foundation is delighted to announce the appointment of Troy Matthews as its new Executive Director.

Matthews’ commitment to serving his community is exhibited through his involvement and leadership in multiple organizations including Tahoe Regional Young Professionals, the South Tahoe Drug Free Coalition, Progress for Tahoe, El Dorado County Housing Task Force, LTCC Theater Arts Task Force, Leadership Lake Tahoe, and serving on the Lake Tahoe Unified School District School Board.

Since its beginning in 2003, Leadership Lake Tahoe has helped shape the community with over 100 new leaders from various sectors including Vail Resort, Barton Health, South Tahoe Public Utility District, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, the City of South Lake Tahoe, as well as small business owners and entrepreneurs including South Tahoe Now.

Through a ten-month long, comprehensive program, the current and future leaders increase their knowledge and awareness of the issues and challenges facing the South Shore community.

All candidates for South Lake Tahoe City Council were given the same questions. With just one day to go to the elections, we will be featuring their answers and a video of their interview with Tahoe Regional Young Professionals through the day.

Discuss your interest in serving on City Council. What is your prior experience in working with civic, community or governmental organizations?

I am lucky to have lived in South Lake Tahoe for 9 years and grateful to be raising my children in such a wonderful place. I received a Masters Degree in Land Use Planning from UNR and am currently a solution oriented AICP, Senior Planner at Midkiff & Associates. My commitment to community service led me to the Leadership Lake Tahoe program, board membership with the Tahoe Drug Free Coalition, the Chamber Government Affairs Committee and the fight against climate change.

Just as it is when the topic of vacation rentals is on the South Lake Tahoe City Council agenda, a large, and at times, angry, crowd gathered.

The task at hand Tuesday was to review changes to the current Vacation Home Rental (VHR) Ordinance which included 11 changes which will take effect 30 days after the June 7 Council meeting if approved.

Lake Tahoe’s beauty sets it apart from other world-class destinations – and so do its challenges. Seasonality, low-wage jobs, environmental sensitivities, and regulatory requirements for businesses sometimes make throwing in the towel seem like a more viable option than making Tahoe work for us or our businesses.

The Leadership Lake Tahoe Class of 2016 will hosting an all-day summit on May 6 that will provide participants with the tools needed to make Tahoe work for everyone.

How would you describe Millennials? Until recently I found myself apologizing for my generation as if I were ashamed to be part of the group of people that grew up with the internet, and cell phones, and electric toothbrushes, and CGI, and therefore didn’t know what it meant to struggle. But I’ve come to realize that perhaps this isn’t true.

After an extensive search and interview process, the participants for the next Leadership Lake Tahoe program have been announced. Leadership Lake Tahoe is a 10-month program that covers key aspects of the South Shore community so participants have a better understanding of their home and may further develop their leadership skills.

How do you balance the need to accommodate huge numbers of tourists while keeping your locals happy? How do you make your town a world leader in sustainability when your state government fights you all the way?

A record-breaking 100 businesses will participate in the 2014 Business EXPO –“Tahoe South in ACTION” this Friday, March 28. The event begins at 4:30pm and continues until 8:30pm in Harrah’s Lake Tahoe Convention Center. Leadership Lake Tahoe produced a new kind of fundraiser on Ski Run Boulevard April 28 called the Unforgettable Supper Stroll and Storytellers’ Night. Event organizers Kalia Knutson, Jeff Sterns and Jeff Cowen aimed to combine three goals into an innovative event: raise funds for the Friends of the Library, promote local businesses during the shoulder season and highlight South Tahoe’s local history to promote pride in the community.
