Announcing the Leadership Lake Tahoe 'Class of 2014'
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 08/27/2013 - 6:15pm
TahoeChamber is pleased to announce the participants for the Leadership Lake Tahoe Class of 2013/2014. 25 applicants have been accepted in to the upcoming program due to start next month. Leadership Lake Tahoe is an intensive 10-month experience in which participants meet once each month for a full class day.
Each month brings up a new community topic including Government, Education, Social Services and Community Resources, Tourism, Environment and Transportation, Public Safety, Economic Development and Redevelopment, Media and Communication and specialized leadership skills such as time management, understanding work style differences, advanced communication skills, diversity, marketing, generational differences in the workforce and more. Additionally, participants will take part in a large group project where they will plan and implement the first Leadership Summit for Lake Tahoe.
The Leadership program does not only benefit the participants but it directly benefits our community and how we shape our future.
“Numerous benefits are derived by the participant, employer and community from the Leadership Lake Tahoe program," explains Chamber President and CEO “B” Gorman. "Participants develop critical leadership, marketing and business skills in addition to developing a network of contacts in our community. Businesses receive a low-cost (no-cost for scholarship recipients) training program that might otherwise be unobtainable.
"The community benefits are many, in that candidates graduate with a heightened sense of community and place of belonging which leads to their volunteering to work with social service agencies, non-profits or some other sort of civic involvement. It is our belief as we look at past graduates of the program (many who are still living and working on the South Shore) that this program leads to a deepened sense of community with a view to a future here rather than seeing it as a stopping off place on the career path.”
