SBA and Treasury announce re-opening of PPP loans for businesses
Submitted by paula on Mon, 01/11/2021 - 11:43pmThe U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), in consultation with the Treasury Department, have reopened the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) for new borrowers and certain existing PPP borrowers.
The PPP will open to all participating lenders shortly thereafter. Updated PPP guidance outlining Program changes to enhance its effectiveness and accessibility has been released in accordance with the Economic Aid to Hard-Hit Small Businesses, Non-Profits, and Venues Act.
Stay-at-home order likely to be extended for South Lake Tahoe and the Sacramento Region

South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County are part of the Sacramento Region which fell under Governor Newsom's Stay-at-Home Order on December 10, 2020.
As of December 31, the Sacramento Region ICU availability was 14.4 percent.

I put my Christmas lights up over the 4th of July and for a short while started watching Christmas movies too to try and get that feel-good feeling happening. Okay, I also did it because I wanted to watch movies where no one was wearing a mask and hugging one another without fear of being exposed. I’ve always enjoyed movies for their pure escapism and who doesn’t want to escape what we’ve been through already ya know? I also like being wrapped around a movie completely.

They are the businesses we go to when seeking donations for silent auctions or to provide food for fundraisers. They are invested in the well-being of the South Shore community and to keep them here we need to support them now.

It began in 2003 with a mission to identify and develop current and future leaders through a comprehensive program designed to increase knowledge and awareness of the issues and challenges facing our community. At the beginning, the program was sponsored by the Tahoe Douglas Chamber and South Lake Tahoe Chamber, they merged a few years later and became the Tahoe Chamber (or Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce).

Masks or face coverings required at Reno-Tahoe International Airport
Submitted by paula on Fri, 06/26/2020 - 2:47pmMasks or face coverings are now required to be worn in the Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) terminal’s public areas, by order of Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak. The face coverings order was announced Wednesday.
Due to the change, signage describing the new rules is in place and highly visible.

When he landed in South Lake Tahoe Kovac already had spent time teaching at Fairfax High School, Emerson Junior High, James Rutter Middle School, and Paul Revere Middle School, but he found his niche beginning locally at South Tahoe Middle School.
After one year at STMS Kovac took the position as athletics and activities director at South Tahoe High School (STHS), a position he held for five years.
Reopening guidelines approved for Nevada casinos
Submitted by paula on Thu, 05/07/2020 - 5:16pmLAKE TAHOE, Nev. - Casinos in Nevada will not be opening during the Phase 1 reopening plan unveiled by Governor Steve Sisolak Thursday. All Nevada casinos will be required to create and implement an infectious disease prevention plan before they will be allowed to open once Sisolak gives them the green light. He said Thursday Phase 1 expires May 30 and the next phase can start then, or even earlier if all goes as planned. It is unknown at this time if casinos will be included in the next reopening phase.

Brian Gignoux, who spent grades K-10 and early adult life in South Lake Tahoe, heard how medical personnel across the globe were having problems obtaining life-saving protection items like surgical and N95 masks. His medical field friends in South Lake Tahoe were no different.
He talked to Barton RNs Siobhan Keller and Rachelle Pakes, friends of his from childhood, and asked what they needed.

On Thursday, Caesars Entertainment Corporation and VICI Properties Inc. announced in a press release they signed an agreement to sell Harrah’s Reno Hotel and Casino to an affiliate of CAI Investments for $50 million.

Lift tickets will be available for purchase at ticket windows for just $10, with half of all proceeds to be donated to the Food Bank of El Dorado County.
Operations will be limited, with Easy Rider Express and Rock Garden scheduled to spin, conditions permitting.
Nurses in four states go on strike including those at Barton Hospital

The nurses with their signs spread out on the four corners of Lake Tahoe Boulevard and 3rd Street as well as across the street from the hospital on South Street.

Hazmat response to suspicious powder found in building behind Barton Hospital

The sequestered employees have been released and the back entrance of the hospital is now accessible to the public.

There were 80 Hooters Girls from around the world competing for the title during the 23rd annual pageant. The winner was crowned Thursday night during the Lee Brice concert at the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena.

Nurses give Barton Memorial Hospital a 10-day notice of a strike
Submitted by paula on Tue, 02/05/2019 - 5:21pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Barton Memorial Hospital received a ten-day notice from the California Nurse's Association on Monday, informing them that the nurses at the South Lake Tahoe hospital intend to strike on February 15, 2019.
Negotiations have been ongoing between the nurse's union and Barton Health since the Registered Nurses (RNs) at Barton Memorial Hospital and Lake Tahoe Surgery Center voted 123 to 17 to unionize on November 15, 2017.
JT Chevallier named new town manager for Genoa

On January 25, the Genoa Town Board voted unanimously to extend an offer to JT Chevallier to take the helm of the historic town just over the mountain from South Lake Tahoe.
“We had a difficult decision to make with some highly qualified candidates,” said Chairman to the Board Steven Shively. “Overall we are excited to bring JT on board and to set future goals and strategies for the Town of Genoa."
Barton Health nurses vote for one-day strike if necessary

Former City Manager Nancy Kerry honored with proclamation and party
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/14/2018 - 11:26amNancy Kerry has been gone from her position as the city manager of South Lake Tahoe since March, but she finally got the credit due for her many accomplishments and contributions during a standing room only celebration Tuesday evening.
Over 75 community leaders came together to present Nancy with a proclamation signed by both Mayor Wendy David and Mayor Pro Tem Tom Davis, their last official act with the City.
The list of tributes spoken during the evening is a lengthy one.
