Last year, more than 1,500 wildfires burned over 640,000 acres on National Forest System lands in California, including the Thomas Fire, the largest fire in California’s recorded history. The surrounding communities are still dealing with damage from debris flows caused by a charred and barren landscape that no longer has the protection of trees, grass and other vegetation. We see and empathize with those affected, and are working to reduce the potential for future loss by performing hazardous fuel reduction treatments which include thinning overstocked forests and prescribed burning.

developers to build large scale lodging properties in our residential
neighborhoods.The local residents now want a chance to decide if we want

1/8/18 UPDATE 3:45PM: The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in an armed robbery that occurred at a Subway Restaurant located at 1328 Hwy 395 in Gardnerville. A Caucasian male in his 20’s wearing a black mask, light colored jacket; dark pants and black tennis shoes entered the business on 1-6-18 at 6:15 p.m. and brandished a weapon.

Douglas County residents continue to receive scam phone calls about missed court dates and jury duties, resulting in two residents being scammed out of over $5,,000 each, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO).

Davis was speaking about their decision to approve an urgency ordinance and to take their time in creating the City's ordinance for legal cannabis sales in South Lake Tahoe. The moratorium will remain in effect for 45 days and expires on January 21, 2018 unless the City Council extends it before then.

More than a dozen reports from the public about a phone scam prompted the Washoe County Sheriff's Office to issue an alert.

The callers claim to be a person's grandchild and they are in need of financial assistance because they're in jail, or have been involved in an accident. It is not unusual for scammers to use personal information about a potential victim’s family members in order to sound credible. This type of information is often easily obtained via the Internet or social media.

10:58 p.m. - Driving without a license - Stockton Ave - A TRAFFIC STOP WAS CONDUCTED ON A VEHICLE FOR AN INFRACTION. IT WAS LATER LEARNED THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE WAS UNLICENSED. THE 32-YEAR-OLD FEMALE DRIVER WAS LATER CITED AND RELEASED.

Twelve years of Vacation Home Rentals (VHRs), what a sad place So. Lake Tahoe residential neighborhoods have become. Thanks go to local Realtors, out of town owners, and VHR rental agencies, who care mostly about money, not about the peace and tranquility of the local residents. But they’re not alone, we also have City and County officials that don’t represent the locals that elect them, instead it’s all about the tourists and their friends in the VHR business, some of those friends are elected officials.

Unknowingly, visitors to South Lake Tahoe are renting legitimate vacation homes through illegitimate parties, leaving them without money or a place to stay when they arrive.

South Tahoe Now has been warning people for years about renting both short-term and long-term homes through Craigslist, the online classified ad forum.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department is warning potential vacation home renters that scams continue on Craigslist.

South Lake Tahoe voters will be deciding the future of roads in the City when they determine the fate of Measure C on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.

Voters will decide if a one-half cent sales tax will be added in the town to provide approximately $2.5 million that will fix potholes and pave, repair, maintain local roads.

Investment in South Lake Tahoe roads is a matter of safety. A proactive plan for financing maintenance of City roads, Measure C is vital to our community.

I never thought 20 years ago that SLT roads and pothole problems would still be a problem today, but it still is! Tahoe is a beautiful place, if you ignore the pothole problem. Finally we have a chance to do something. Measure C, a quarter percent sales tax, will replace another sales tax that is expiring, and that same money will be set aside for fixing our roads. The new measure will also mandate a citizens committee with legal clout to make sure this money is spent on roads. This is an amazing opportunity to get something done on our roads.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Monday is the last day to buy tickets for the Tahoe Women's Community Fund (TWCF) annual Membership Celebration Dinner on Thursday, November 2 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Harvey's Lake Tahoe.

Ticket sales will close at noon. They can be purchased for $35 HERE.
