Letters: Strengthen the South Shore, join Tahoe Women's Community Fund

The Tahoe Women’s Community Fund invites you to join our 2018 membership! We are a philanthropic leadership organization dedicated to building and engaging an inclusive and diverse membership of people interested in strengthening our community through the power of collective giving. Plus, through a very generous gift of $100,000 from Ms. Lisa Maloff, we will be matching membership money dollar for dollar, doubling our collective giving power for 2018!

When you join, 80 percent of your contribution goes directly into the grants for that year, while 20 percent is added to our endowment fund which will continue to grow year after year. Each member receives one vote on our annual ballots. Requests for Proposals are sent to local nonprofits, and after the proposals are returned and reviewed by the Grants Committee, members receive a ballot and vote on which grants to fund. The member-selected grants are announced and awarded each
Spring at our annual Grants Award Gala. Members can also choose their level of involvement within the organization ranging from just voting via email twice per year, to attending our annual events, to even joining a committee or volunteering. There is no requirement for additional service, fundraising, or participation in events.

In 2017, the Tahoe Women’s Community Fund granted $29,000 to various nonprofit
organizations in the South Lake Tahoe Community. Here are the recipients of the 2017 grant cycle as chosen by our entire membership:

St. Joseph’s Community Land Trust $10,000
NAMI of El Dorado County $5,500
Between Horses and Humans $4,500
Juvenile Service Council $3,000
Tahoe Prosperity Center $3,000
Habitat for Humanity (EDC) $3,000

Join us in helping our community though the power of collective giving! Everyone is welcome to become a member, but you must join by the end of the year, December 31, 2017, to receive a vote in the 2018 granting cycle.
