Ten on ballot for two open seats on South Lake Tahoe City Council
Submitted by paula on Wed, 08/12/2020 - 9:12pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Candidate paperwork is filed and we now know have a better picture of who willl appear on the ballot November 3 South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County.
For many positions the deadline was Friday, August 7, but if an incumbent chose not to run, that date was moved to August 12.

26 retire from Lake Tahoe Unified School District; Over 627 combined years of service

During a reception hosted by the Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation, each retiree was honored with a gift and plant and a round of applause.
The following certificated and classified retirees will be honored:

South Tahoe High gets good news - Fully accredited until 2022
Submitted by paula on Wed, 05/09/2018 - 5:00pmSouth Tahoe High School received great news from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Commission with confirmation that the school is fully accredited through June 2022. When the accreditation team left the campus in March they had nothing but glowing reports for the staff and school, but the final decision was mailed to the school May 3.

"It is amazing what I've seen in two years," said Cheryl Townsend, Director of The Reach School in Sebastapol, Calif., and the only member of the accreditation team that originally reviewed the school in 2016. "There is a great level of intensity and quality at this school, give yourselves a hand."

The Meyers and South Lake Tahoe community joined law enforcement in searching for the missing girls. As days turned into weeks, and then eventually years, parents searched for ways to teach their own children about safety and abduction.
Longtime LTCC Trustee Dr. Wenck retires after 42 years on board

Richard Nixon resigned as president, Patty Hearst was kidnapped by the Symbionese Liberation Army, All in the Family and Sanford and Son were number one and two on the top TV show list, gas was 38 cents a gallon and Dr. Frederick “Fritz” Wenck became an elected Board of Trustees member for Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC).
Fast forward to 2016 and Dr. Wenck retired from the board.

More ballots counted; South Lake Tahoe election results remain the same
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/23/2016 - 7:15pmOn Wednesday, the El Dorado County Elections Department released more results from the November 8 election. There are still approximately 200-300 ballots remaining to count from County Supervisor District 5 which is from Pollock Pines to South Lake Tahoe and Tahoma.
"We'd like to not wait until the December 6 deadline, but there are quite a few provisional ballots left to count," said Justin Canning of El Dorado County.
All ballots must be certified 28 days after the election, hence their December 6 deadline.
Ballot tally updated: South Lake Tahoe election results remain the same
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/16/2016 - 8:50pmNovember 17, 2:30 p.m. update: There are about 500 provisional ballots from the South Lake Tahoe and Meyers areas that need to be counted, along with a few mail-in ballots.
According to Linda Webster, Assistant Registrar of Voters for the County, there are a few mail-in ballots still to be counted county-wide. She expects there will be an update to the returns before Thanksgiving with a final release of figures right after the holiday. It will be that final report that will include the provisional ballot count.
El Dorado County still needs to count over 23,000 votes
Submitted by paula on Tue, 11/15/2016 - 11:12pmThe election was seven days ago, but the final ballots cast in El Dorado County have yet to be tabulated, and it might not be until Friday for the results of over 20,000 ballots are released. Another 3,000 provisional ballots should be counted by Monday.
As of 5:00 p.m. November 15, the 20,000 ballots were about to be scanned.
Laine and Collin, Measures P and T win
Submitted by paula on Tue, 11/08/2016 - 9:43pm6:00 a.m. 11/9 Update: It took awhile for ballots to be counted, but 100 percent of the precincts have now been counted for El Dorado County and South Lake Tahoe. The results are unofficial as some mail-in ballots will still be tallied.
Former councilwoman Brooke Laine and hospital executive Jason Collin will be headed to the South Lake Tahoe City Council in what turned out to be a close race with local politics newcomer, Tamara Wallace. Current Councilwoman JoAnn Conner will not be returning for a second term.

I am writing this letter in support of Nancy Dalton’s candidacy for the lake Tahoe Community College Board of Trustees. I heartily endorse Nancy for this position. Nancy’s commitment to education and our community in general is exemplary.
I have known Nancy Dalton for over 25 years. In that time I have seen her give of her time and expertise to our community in so many ways. From teaching our children to setting an example of a life of service, she always carries herself with honor and integrity.

Clearer picture now for November's elections in South Lake Tahoe

There are now ten people interested in sitting on the South Lake Tahoe City Council. With a deadline of 5:00 p.m. on August 17, the last of the candidates submitted their paperwork just under the wire.
Letter to the Editor: City’s 4th of July Parade a huge success

There were a total of 78 vehicles and approximately 200 people on foot either walking, biking, or dancing. American Legion Post 795 served as the parade marshals.
The City of South Lake Tahoe would like to say "Thank You" to all the parade participants, businesses and volunteers for making the 4th of July parade a fantastic community event!
