Tahoe Film Fest returns with modified schedule on North Shore
Submitted by paula on Fri, 11/27/2020 - 10:11pmINLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - The 6th Annual Tahoe Film Fest presents environmental and independent feature length and award winning films to North Lake Tahoe from December 3-6, 2020. Special guests and filmmakers will be present at many of the films.
The festival takes on a new look during the pandemic. The films originally scheduled for Northstar had to be moved as movie theaters must only operate outdoors due to Placer County's Purple Tier. The theaters on the Nevada side can still show films but only at 50 percent capacity.

The North Lake Tahoe resident was a contestant on Season 9 of The Bachelorette, vying for the love of Desiree Hartsock. While Diogo was on the show looking for love and to be a knight in shining armor, it wasn't to be with Desiree as he didn't make it past the first week.

North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District is scheduled to being operations Monday at Diamond Peak Ski Resort (50 acres) and later near War Bonnet Way/Peace Pipe Lane in Incline Village (20 acres).
California State Parks is scheduled to begin operations at Burton Creek (17 acres) and Sugar Pine Point (20 acres) state parks beginning as early as Tuesday.
South Shore casinos see big gain in September; Statewide revenues down 22 percent

This amounts to a 22.38 percent decrease compared to September 2019, when licensees reported a gaming win of $1,057,935,421, according to the monthly report released by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
The twenty-two percent decrease is almost identical to the loss experienced the prior month for the state.

This includes campgrounds with fire rings, fire pits at homes and all charcoal barbeques whether at home or at public and private facilities.
The suspension takes effect at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2020 and will be enforced with extinguishment and possible citations and fines.

Tahoe East Shore Trail to close temporarily for tunnel art project

The Tahoe Fund, Tahoe Public Art and Nevada State Parks collaborated to commission the mural to augment the natural beauty of the Tahoe East Shore Trail and transform a utilitarian tunnel into a community-involved, relevant art experience.

This list now numbers 37 which makes up 93 percent of the state's population. There are 58 counties in the state.
New on that list are Mono County (home to Mammoth Mountain) and Santa Cruz County, a popular tourist destination. North Lake Tahoe is in Placer County which was added to the list earlier this month.
Tahoe Bike Challenge riders log over 45,000 miles

The Tahoe-basin wide challenge was a friendly competition that annually encourages individuals and teams to track trips and miles completed on their bikes.
“Congratulations to all of the winners and riders,” TRPA Transportation Planner Kira Smith said. “Although this year looked a little bit different, we hope the Challenge inspires people to bike and walk through the rest of the year.”

Summer fire restrictions around Lake Tahoe

It is important to understand that with all of the different fire areas around Lake Tahoe, there are different rules.

A new bridge over the Truckee River was also created during the first stage of the SR89/Fanny Bridge Revitalization Project which included another roundabout on the west end of Tahoe City on SR89.
South Shore 4th of July fireworks show canceled; TDVA aims for Labor Day show
Submitted by paula on Wed, 05/13/2020 - 4:32pmSTATELINE, Nev. - The Tahoe Douglas Visitors Authority (TDVA) voted unanimously Wednesday afternoon to cancel the 4th of July fireworks show on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe due to concerns around COVID-19 and large group gatherings.
Not all is lost though as TDVA is planning on a Labor Day Lights on the Lake show on Sunday, September 6, Labor Day Weekend. That show will depend on the coronavirus situation at the time and the TDVA board of directors has until July 23 to decide and not be held to any fees from Zambelli Fireworks, the producer of the show.

El Dorado County issues "Shelter in Place" for South Lake Tahoe and rest of county

Residents are being directed to remain at home except to engage in essential activities in order to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Earlier today, Placer County did the same thing which affects North Lake Tahoe.
There are still no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in El Dorado County and this action is meant to help keep the spread minimal when cases are confirmed.

Vail awards $2.8 million in grant support to 76 Lake Tahoe area nonprofits

Heavenly Mountain Resort and Kirkwood recently held a breakfast to honor the recipients. The followed with a similar celebration at Northstar, the third area Vail resort.
Science Expo volunteers needed in both South Lake Tahoe and Incline Village

Volunteers will facilitate a hands-on science investigation station with small groups of elementary students. All the volunteers need is a willingness to have fun and share science with local youth. Training will be provided prior to the event.

One dead, one seriously injured in Alpine Meadows avalanche
Submitted by paula on Fri, 01/17/2020 - 2:24pmJanuary 18 update: In a statement, Alpine Meadows said the following: At approximately 10:16 a.m, Friday, an avalanche was reported in the area between Scott Chute and Promised Land near Scott Chair at Alpine Meadows, within an open area of the resort. A male skier sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased by the Placer County Sheriff’s Office at approximately 11am. Prescribed burn operations continue around Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Tue, 01/07/2020 - 7:59pmMembers of the Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team, which includes local, state and federal fire and land management agencies, are scheduled to continue prescribed fire operations in the Lake Tahoe Basin over the next few weeks, weather permitting.
The 13 areas currently on the planned operations:
The old Tahoe Pines Campground near the intersection of US Hwy 50 and South Upper Truckee Rd. by the California Tahoe Conservancy. 8 acres of Machine Piles.
Upper Kinsbury, Valley Side by the Tahoe Douglas Fire District. 40 acres of Hand Piles.
Plenty of Christmas Tree permits remain available in Lake Tahoe Basin

Due to permits being sold out after just a week in the past, people were only allowed to buy one of the $10 permits per family this year.
The result is plenty of leftovers.
Actress Anna Faris and family survive carbon monoxide issue at Lake Tahoe home
Submitted by paula on Tue, 12/03/2019 - 7:34pmNORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The family of actress Anna Faris had a brush with danger in North Lake Tahoe during the Thanksgiving holiday. The group of 13 rented a vacation home in the 100 block of Tahoma Drive in Tahoe City. Two of them felt ill and went to the hospital where it was determined they were suffering from Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning.
