All power was restored by 8:50 p.m. Friday.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Liberty Utilities is reporting 3,725 customers in South Lake Tahoe are without power Friday evening.

At this time the cause of the outage is unknown but their website estimated restoration by 10:30 p.m.

Residents are reporting outages in the Sierra Tract to Montgomery Estates neighborhoods and areas surrounding those.

Stateline power outage caused by water in underground vault

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Liberty Utility and NV Energy customers in the Stateline area were without power for several hours Sunday evening and early Monday due to water that got into an unground vault on the California side. This required significant additional work to safely restore power to the six Nevada customers and 426 California customers.

11:20 p.m. UPDATE: Power is still out to 301 Stateline customers of Liberty Utilities and six NV Energy customers in the area. South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue responded to Stateline Avenue after smoke was seen coming out through a manhole cover.

The cause of the outage and smoke is under investigation.

NV Energy and Liberty Utilities ask customers to reduce electricity use

NV Energy is urging its electric customers in both northern and southern Nevada to conserve electricity Tuesday and Wednesday between 2:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. in order to offset energy supply issues caused by record-breaking heat throughout the Western United States. Conservation is the best way to reduce strain on the local power grid.

Liberty Utilities gets some of its power from NV Energy so they too are asking for customers to limit unnecessary power use and stay prepared for potential outage.

NV Energy prepares for storm heading to Lake Tahoe and offers helpful tips

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - The incoming winter storm will not only bring with it heavy snow but also wind with gusts up to 115 mph over the crest of the Sierra.

"Safety is our top priorty," said NV Energy Director of Delivery Operations, Brian Costello. He said during these storms there is a concern for both public and staff safety with downed power lines.

NV Energy supplied electricity to the Nevada side of the Lake Tahoe Basin and to the Truckee Donner PUD. Their power lines go over the Mt. Rose Highway into Incline Village and over Kingsbury Grade into the South Shore.

EDC school leaders educate Gov. Newsom on PSPS impacts

On Thursday, October 31, Governor Gavin Newsom and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond visited El Dorado County and Blue Oak Elementary School to learn about the impacts of the recent PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS). Gov. Newsom and Superintendent Thurmond met with El Dorado County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ed Manansala, Buckeye Union School District (BUSD) Superintendent Dr. David Roth, and several BUSD officials to hear first-hand about the challenges that school officials encounter when making decisions regarding school closures.

CAL FIRE firefighters are staffing up during extreme fire weather across state

CAL FIRE firefighters are staffing up and preparing for the forecasted extreme fire weather across California. The National Weather Service has issued red flag warnings and fire weather watches for areas of northern, central and southern California. This will likely be the strongest offshore wind event so far this season.

Lake Tahoe will not be affected by PG&E public safety power outage

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Cali. - To reduce wildfire risk during the forecasted severe wind event in California west of Lake Tahoe, Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) will implement a Public Safety Power Shutoff in parts of northern, central and coastal counties of the state, but not in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

PG&E expects to begin turning off power later Tuesday night, just after midnight.

Power outage in South Lake Tahoe

3:45 p.m. update: Crews have been able to re-route power to re-energize most customers. The remaining customers are expected to be re-energized by 5:30 pm and then crews will focus on the long term repairs through the night.

3:20 p.m. update: Power has been restored to about half of those affected by the earlier outage. Liberty Utilities says the remaining 3,184 customers should have power restored by 3:41 p.m.

Power out in small part of South Lake Tahoe

There is a power outage in the Cold Creek Trail area this morning, affecting 143 customers.

The traffic light at Pioneer Trail and Cold Creek Trail is out, and the outage goes uphill from there. The cause is a blown lightning arrester.

Liberty Utilities crews estimate another 30 minutes to get the power restored.

Power and Charter outage in South Lake Tahoe

1:30 a.m. Sunday update: Charter services have reportedly been restored to all customers after starting to come back for some around 10:00 p.m. Saturday.

4:15 p.m. update: While power is restored there are still internet issues for Spectrum customers. No word on when those services will be restored.

3:45 p.m. update: A contractor knocked down a telecom line which made contact with a Liberty Utilities line, locking the breaker. All power has been restored.

Power outage in the Upper Truckee Road area; Crews on the way

12:00 a.m. update: According to Liberty Utilities they are working to restore power to those in the North and South Upper Truckee area of Meyers. At this time they expect to have power restored between 2:30 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. but it may be up to six hours, according to the California Highway Patrol.

North Upper Truckee Road is closed in the area of the downed pole.

The condition of the driver is unknown at this time.

MEYERS, Calif. - There are reports of a power outage near the Upper Truckee Road area of Meyers Sunday night.

NV Energy to hold public meeting on planned power outages during fire season

NV Energy is holding a meeting on Wednesday in Incline Village to inform customers about their Public Safety Outage Management (PSOM) this fire season.

The open house will explain how they will shut off power in extreme fire-risk areas, including Lake Tahoe, during a PSOM event. When certain environmental conditions are met, power will be shut down in order to protect their customers, equipment and environment from wildfires.

2:00PM Update: Power has been restored the NV Energy customers at Lake Tahoe.

1:30PM Update: Crews are still working on the equipment which caused a power outage to NV Energy customers on the Nevada side of the South Shore. They have updated their expected time of restoration to 3:00 p.m.

STATELINE, Nev. - Just after 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, the power went out to 2439 customers of NV Energy in the Kingsbury Grade/Stateline area.

At this time the cause is listed as equipment failure and the estimated time of restoral is 1:00 p.m.

UPDATE: 10:00 a.m. - From Liberty Utilities on their Twitter page: "After further investigation we have discovered that the cause of this morning's power outage in South Tahoe was a crow that got into the capacitor bank at the substation. Crews are on site and working on the situation. Restoral time is unknown.

Power out to parts of Meyers and Alpine County

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Crews from Liberty Utilities are in the South Upper Truckee area to restore power to 152 customers. They say there may be a delay in restoration as there are an accident and heavy traffic in the area impeding the crew's response.

Out in Alpine County, 152 customers are without power and crews are searching for the cause of the outage at this hour.

Estimated restoral time is 7:32 p.m. Thursday.

Downed power pole causes outage to parts of Bijou neighborhood

8:00 p.m. UPDATE- The updated estimated restoration time for the Bijou outage is now 2:00 a.m. Crews are still working diligently to make repairs and will restore power sooner if possible.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A power pole fell down between Spruce Avenue and Bruce Avenue in South Lake Tahoe Wednesday afternoon. 205 customers of Liberty Utilities are without power until the crew can replace the pole.

Estimated restoral of power is 10:05 p.m. February 13.

UPDATE 9:20 p.m. - Most NV Energy customers in the Lake Tahoe area now have their power restored and the outage is isolated to just three customers.

UPDATE 8:20 p.m.- Power has been restored to most of the affected customers. There are a couple of people without power in the Zephyr Cove area and 172 customers are still without power in the Glenbrook area. NV Energy still estimates all will be restored by 9:15 p.m.

Small power outage in South Lake Tahoe

UPDATE 9:15 p.m. - Crews have identified the cause of the power outage in Spring Creek. A tree has fallen on a power line and crews are working to remove the tree and fix the line.

Another power outage in El Dorado County has 31 more customers in the dark. Crews are responding to that situation as well.

UPDATE 8:10 p.m. - Liberty Utilities now estimates restoration of power to the area by 2:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Update - 1:20 a.m. 11/7/18: With a large voter turnout the processing of ballots is taking longer than normal. A power outage caused by a car hitting a power line near Blackwood Avenue caused some excitement for voters but did not delay the count as there are procedures in place for such an incident.

Widespread power outage in South Lake Tahoe; Over 2000 customers affected

10/18/18 UPDATE - The power outage in South Lake Tahoe Wednesday night was caused by line failure at the corner of Dunlap and Eloise. The cause is unknown at this time but a spokesperson for Liberty Utilities said it may have been wind induced.

Almost 8,000 customers were without power with 3,000 of them having power restored within 30-40 minutes. The staggered re-energization brought most of the remaining customers back in two hours with the final two up at 5:00 a.m.

PG&E cutting power to 70,000 Sierra Foothills customers due to fire danger

Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) is in emergency mode in extreme fire-risk areas in Butte, Sierra, Placer, Nevada, El Dorado, Amador, Plumas, Calaveras and Yuba counties due to Red Flag warnings by the National Weather Service. These shutoffs will affect about 70,000 customers.

South Lake Tahoe is served by Liberty Utilities and not part of the utility company's plan to start proactively shutting off power for safety as early as 5 p.m. Sunday and continuing through the evening.

Planned power outages in South Lake Tahoe and Meyers

There are two planned electrical outages in South Lake Tahoe and Meyers so Liberty Utilities crews can tend to broken equipment.

On Friday, August 24, crews will be on Haidas Circle from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to replace a broken cross arm on a power pole.

On Tuesday, August 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. there is a planned outage in the San Jose Avenue area to replace two power poles and add a transformer.

In both cases, all affected customers have been notified.

Three scheduled power outages to affect North Lake Tahoe areas

Liberty Utilities will be having three scheduled power outages in the North Lake Tahoe area so wires can be replaced and upgraded, as well as padding of a mount transformer.

On Thursday, August 8, nine notified customers in Tahoe Vista area of Rhodesia Rd & Dakar Rd will be affected as they replace secondary wire from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

A scheduled outage affecting 12 notified customers in Tahoe Vista area of Rhodesia Rd & Zimba Court will take place on Monday, August 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. as they upgrade secondary wire.

Power to be out in Tahoe Keys Wednesday as transformers replaced

There is a planned power outage affecting 113 customers in the Tahoe Keys neighborhood of South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday, August 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Liberty Utilities will be replacing two transformers and stringing new primary line along Venice Drive, Lucerne Way and Danube Drive. Residents on those streets will experience either total or partial outages during the day.

Signs have been placed in the neighborhood to alert them of the outage.

Power outage to affect some Liberty Utilities customers in Kings Beach/Tahoma

Liberty Utilities crews will be working to make some system improvements this week in Kings Beach and Tahoma, resulting in planned outages to some customers in the area.

On Wednesday, June 27 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Kings Beach area along Dolly Varden, crews will be replacing wire and a transformer.

on Friday, June 29 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Tahoma area along McKinney Creek, crews will be replacing a pole and transformer.

All affected customers have been informed.

Smith Valley fire at 1,500 acres, power out to Walker/Coleville area

10:42 p.m. update: Power restored to all customers at 10:19 pm.

Multiple agencies have responded to a fire burning in Smith Valley, Nevada that has grown to 1,500 acres as of Sunday evening. It is burning in the area of Highway 208 and the Wellington Cut-Off.

There are approximately 300 firefighters, 25 engines, three helicopters, eight fixed wing and four hand crews on scene fighting fire.

EBT card system down for 24 hours next weekend

Those who use Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards, including CalFresh and CalWORKS issued cards, will be unable to use them for a 24-hour period so the State of California can transition to a new EBT vendor.

THe statewide 24-hour EBT outage and black-out period is scheduled from Saturday, June 23, 2018, beginning at 11:00 p.m. and going until Sunday, June 24, 2018 at 11:00 p.m. During this 24-hour period, those using the EBT cards will be unable to access benefits, nor will they be able to access the program's website at www.ebt.ca.gov.

Liberty Utilities upping their response to tree mortality on North Shore

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With an increase in the number of dead and dying trees in the Lake Tahoe region, Liberty Utilities has tripled the number of inspectors they use to identify trees that pose a risk to the utility’s infrastructure. The inspection program and subsequent removal of hazardous trees are designed to reduce the risk of power outages, potential wildfires, and to comply with State regulations.

Planned power outage in Meyers on Thursday

There is a planned power outage in the Meyers neighborhood of Bakersfield, San Diego and Country Club streets on Thursday, May 31 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to replace two transformers and cable.

There will be a larger number of customers affected initially, with a smaller group lasting for remainder of day.

Signage was placed in the area to notify residents.

Small planned power outage in South Lake Tahoe Thursday

There is a planned power outage in South Lake Tahoe along Panther Lane on Thursday, April 5 to replace a transformer. The small number of customers who will be affected have been notified.

Stateline area without power as work continues on underground vault

LAKE TAHOE, Nevada - There is a planned electrical outage in the Stateline area Wednesday so crews can continue to work on the underground vault that exploded Sunday, April 1.

NV Energy estimates that power will be out for the 18 customers in the area until about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday night.

Liberty Utilities will be replacing a power pole on Thursday, March 29, resulting in a planned power outage on several streets in the Gardner Mountain area.

From 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., 84 customers in the neighborhood of Gardner Street, Wentworth Street, Panther Lane and Taylor Way will be affected.

Signage has been placed in the neighborhood.

Power is out in the Garmish Court / Lido Drive area of South Lake Tahoe Thursday evening due to burnt components in and underground transformer.

Crews from Liberty Utilities are on the scene and power is expected to be restored by 10:30 p.m.

Liberty will also be working in the Crystal Air Drive and Yqui Streeet neighborhood from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. repace a power pole. Affected customers have been notified.

Scattered small power outages in Lake Tahoe area

Liberty Utilities is experiencing multiple small outages in the Lake Tahoe region due to the weather.

At this time, there is an outage in the North Lake Tahoe area around Klondike Flat Road, Silverado Way and Hwy 89.

Reports started coming in a 11:43 a.m. and the person tasked with locating the probem was dispatched at 12:36 p.m. and a downed wire was discovered. The line crew was dispatched at 12:50 pm.

No estimated restoration time yet.

Liberty Utilities wants customers prepared as blizzard heads to Lake Tahoe

Liberty Utilities is reminding customers to be prepared for possible extended power outages due to incoming winter storms.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning and avalanche watch starting Thursday morning for the Sierra and Lake Tahoe areas citing that this weather pattern could be the biggest snowstorm of the season.

”Although we prepare for extreme weather impacts to our electric system, we remind customers that power outages may occur and we encourage them to be prepared,” said Travis Johnson, Liberty Utilities’ VP of Electric Operations.

Customers weigh in on Liberty Utilities in survey

The cumulative results of Liberty Utilities’ quarterly Customer Satisfaction Surveys in 2017 show improvements in corporate citizenship and communications. The survey also showed overall customer satisfaction increased by six points compared to first quarter results.

The online survey is independently conducted by JD Power, and Liberty Utilities’ results are compared with comparable electric utilities in the west. Some highlights of the 2017 survey results show:

UPDATE: 1:00 a.m. 12/17/17 - NV Energy has restored power to their customers. It is unknown at this time what caused the four-hour long outage.

NV Energy is reporting a few power outages to their customers starting at 8:45 p.m. Saturday. At the lake, 4,385 customers are affected, with another 3,300 in the Carson Valley. NV Energy states the problem is from equipment failure and they expect to have power restored by 10:00 p.m.

Power back on after downed line repaired in South Lake Tahoe

10:55 a.m. update: Crews have fixed the primary wire that went down in the Angora Creek area Thursday morning. At first restoration was estimated at by 2:30 p.m. It is unknown how the wire came down.

Crews from Liberty Utilities are on their way to the US50 and Angora Creek area due to customers reporting partial, or no power.

The affected area includes Dixie Mountain Rd, Pyramid Court and Circle, Mt. Shasta Circle and Snow Mountain.

Work completed on new transformer for North Shore

The Brockway substation in Kings Beach was switched back into service Tuesday evening at 8:00 p.m. The 50+ year old substation had been temporarily shut down for necessary repairs due to damage sustained during this year’s winter storms.

A new transformer was installed to replace equipment that had caught on fire during extreme weather experienced in the Lake Tahoe region in January and February "Snowmegeddon."
