Submitted by Editor on Mon, 08/06/2012 - 8:38amThe famed 3,000-acre Royal Gorge property on Donner Summit in the Sierra Nevada will be bought and protected from development under an agreement announced today by The Trust for Public Land, the Truckee Donner Land Trust (TDLT), and the Northern Sierra Partnership (NSP).
The agreement is a big change for a property that, as recently as 2007, had been slated for major resort development. That proposal stalled in the face of overwhelming opposition and an unfavorable economic climate – opening the way for conservationists to buy the land when the bank foreclosed on the loan.

Ruth Coleman, California parks director, resigns following scandal
Submitted by Editor on Fri, 07/20/2012 - 12:49pmSACRAMENTO — The director of California's state parks system resigned Friday after officials discovered that her department had $54 million in unspent money in its accounts that it had not reported to the state finance department.
Ruth Coleman, who had led the agency since 2003, stepped down, and the department's second-in-command, Acting Deputy Director Michael Harris, was fired.
California Resources Secretary John Laird planned a 1 p.m. news conference to address the issue and issued a statement saying the state Attorney General's Office would be investigating.

Full Time Law Enforcement Hits the Rubicon Trail

In the past most of the staffing for the Rubicon Trail was on overtime, and was limited by grant funds.

Town of Mammoth Lakes declares bankruptcy
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 07/02/2012 - 10:57amThe worst possible outcome for Mammoth Lakes has come true. The town filed decided to declare municipal bankruptcy Monday morning, July 2. The Town Council took the action unanimously.
"It's wish this hadn't happened," said Mayor Matthew Lehman, "but it's not the way the cards fell for us."
The town immediately issued a press release regarding the Town council decision.

James Grant named director of Mountain Operations for Heavenly Mountain Resort

Nevada Division of State Parks will host a trail workshop to plan the future of trails within Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park. All trail users are encouraged to attend. The goal is to gather ideas and feedback based on the draft map.
The workshop will be on Thursday, June 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Incline Golf Course Chateau located at 955 Fairway Boulevard in Incline Village. Staff from the Tahoe Rim Trail Association and the U.S. Forest Service will also be there to answer questions.
