Tahoe Fund Presents $12,850 Check for Key Segment of Lake Tahoe Bikeway
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 12/03/2012 - 3:43pmThe environmental non-profit Tahoe Fund presented a $12,850 check today to the Tahoe Transportation District for the Rabe Meadow Bike Path, a key segment of the proposed new bike and pedestrian route around Lake Tahoe called the Lake Tahoe Bikeway. The Bikeway will link communities around the lake, improve air quality, and provide a breathtaking recreational amenity for Tahoe residents and visitors.

South Lake Tahoe Turkey Trot Race Results

The Fun Run was a free event for children ages 3-13 and every participant was a winner of either a turkey, pumpkin pie or swim pass. Thank you to the many local volunteers who pitched in to make this event a success, including Raley’s for their generous donation of all the turkeys and pies ad well as the Optimist Club for their continued support of this annual event.

Kirkwood opens 40th season with four feet of snow
Submitted by Editor on Fri, 11/16/2012 - 10:50amKirkwood Mountain Resort opened its 40th anniversary season when the lifts began turning at 9 a.m. Friday, five days earlier than its originally-scheduled opening day. Kirkwood opened with one chairlift and five trails, accessing 40 total acres.
“The last two storms that have rolled through the Sierra have dropped a combined four feet of snow at Kirkwood, allowing us to open early for all our passionate skiers and riders,” said Casey Blann, general manager of Kirkwood. “This will be a great start to the 40th anniversary season at Kirkwood, and the first with Vail Resorts.”

The Fun Run is a free event for children ages 3-13 and every participant will win a prize. Heavenly at Lake Tahoe celebrates with early opening

Early-season storms combined with the West Coast’s largest snowmaking system have given Heavenly the ability to stage its earliest opening since 2004-05. All access to the mountain at this time is through the Heavenly Gondola and Tamarack Express.

Recommendations Regarding 'Economic Revitalization' for South Shore Lake Tahoe

I feel like our group had many salient ideas that were not properly represented. Also, I have noticed that people are quick to offer ideas like “reduce unemployment”, “beautify the city”, and “improve recreation”, but they are typically unable to offer suggestions on how to make those ideas a reality.

A program started in 2001 by the South Lake Tahoe Parks and Recreation Department as a means for people to earmark a donation is now under the purview of the City Council.
Six-week Asian clam control project begins at Emerald Bay
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 10/11/2012 - 3:12pmBoaters heading to Lake Tahoe in the next six weeks may experience a short delay when entering Emerald Bay due to an Asian clam control project that will be taking place there.
The Asian clam control project is being implemented by a team of partners from the Lake Tahoe Aquatic Invasive Species Program, with plans to treat an area of up to 5 acres at the mouth of Emerald Bay. Treatment will be accomplished by covering the infested lake bottom with thin rubber barriers, augmented with organic material, that reduce the available oxygen and smother the clams. It will be the largest project of its type in the history of Lake Tahoe.

Turkey Trot 2012 at the Community Recreation Center

The event is hosted by the Tahoe Mountain Milers, South Lake Tahoe Optimist Club and the South Lake Tahoe Parks and Recreation Department. Sign up at 10am.
Races held snow, rain or shine! Race distances range from 25 yards for the kids to 2.8 miles for the adults. Youth races begin at 11am and adult race begins at noon. Winners in each division win a turkey. Second and third places receive pumpkin pies.

If anything is amiss, the repercussions will be significant. If nothing is amiss, the devastation to this councilmember, her reputation and her family is immeasurable and horrific.
But no matter the outcome, the damage has already been done. Trust and confidence in the city’s leadership has been shaken. A big question mark — “what now?” — hangs in the air. Which brings us back to the room: The City of South Lake Tahoe.

Champion Stand Up Paddleboarder Goes Wild for Lake Tahoe License Plates

“Over 96 percent of fees help support projects like the Lake Tahoe Water Trail and access to beaches like this,” says Wild, standing on the beach at Watermans Landing. “I train on the lake every day. Tahoe is a treasure, and I have a Tahoe plate to show my love for this magical place.”
Tahoe Douglas Rotary builds kiosks at local parks
Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 08/28/2012 - 9:37amMembers of the 60 member strong Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club recently completed two kiosks for the public to use in the South Lake Tahoe area. The first one is located at Kahle Community Park and the second one is at the new Van Sickle Bi-State Park. The kiosks are now used to hold information, including maps of trails and topography as well as pictures and events. The club took on the projects as part of the worldwide volunteer work day.
Lake Tahoe local ski pass gains access to Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood

The Lake Tahoe Local Pass offers access to more than 263 trails, 14 terrain parks and 10,270 acres of terrain at Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood in California and Nevada. Ski or ride more than four days in one season and, priced at $419, the Tahoe Local Pass pays for itself, then ski or ride for free the rest of the season.
