Christmas started early for this guy once the pandemic hit. I put my Christmas lights up over the 4th of July and for a short while started watching Christmas movies too to try and get that feel-good feeling happening. Okay, I also did it because I wanted to watch movies where no one was wearing a mask and hugging one another without fear of being exposed. I’ve always enjoyed movies for their pure escapism and who doesn’t want to escape what we’ve been through already ya know? I also like being wrapped around a movie completely.

Home Ranch for the Holidays, a celebration of the season that includes a vintage toy exhibit, music and treats, returns to Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday-Sunday, December 15-16 from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

The exhibit includes toys from the 1870s through the 1890s that were played with by Fred Dangberg and his siblings, as well as numerous toys enjoyed by Fred’s five children and a grandson from 1901 through the 1940s.

TOCCATA-Tahoe Symphony Orchestra’s 13th SummerFest concludes with a commemoration of the 17th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. The concert opens with Alex Eisenberg’s virtuosic performance of the beautiful Bruch “Violin Concerto #1.” Then, fasten your seatbelts for the extraordinary drama and emotional power of Verdi’s “Requiem,” presented by a mighty 66-voice chorus, large orchestra, and amazing soloists.

A South Lake Tahoe graduate is heading to the podium at the University of Southern California (USC) on Friday, draped with honors cords, award medallions and a pin that will signify her as the 2018 Class Valedictorian.

Rose Campion, 22, will be graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, and a Bachelor of Arts in History. The double major will leave her USC career behind with a 3.98 GPA.

In a school of 18,000 students and around 5,000 other soon-to-be graduates, it would seem almost impossible for a young woman from South Lake Tahoe to end up in the top spot on graduation day.

The spirit of Christmas comes to life as the 17-piece Reno Jazz Orchestra and the Pat Esters Gospel Choir blend Christmas favorites, jazz, and soul - with a few surprises mixed in – for three performances of feel good, ‘get ready for the holidays’ music and song. The Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra will perform as well.

“Last year’s Gospel Christmas Show with the RJO was such a success we decided to bring it back to the Reno and Lake Tahoe region,” said Chuck Reider, Music Director.

After uprooting from their Nashville home and full-time jobs in June of 2012 the husband and wife indie folk-rock duo set plans to tour the nation for a full year…however, they never stopped.

In 1970, a young and talented piano player from England found himself as the opening act for a band that, according to www.ThreeDogNight.com “from 1969 through 1974 achieved more top 10 hits, moved more records and sold more concert tickets than any other band”, including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who and Led Zeppelin.

That’s just part of the story of the journey of Three Dog Night’s show last night at the Montbleau Casino in South Lake Tahoe.

June Joplin, the beloved owner of Comma Coffee in Carson City is a talented jazz vocalist who is bringing her show, Me and Bobby McGee, to the Valhalla Art, Music and Theatre Festival in South Lake Tahoe on July 15.

The show will be in the historic 1920's boat house turned theater located at the Tallac Historic Site.

Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus kicks off its 10th Summer MusicFest with “Going For Baroque-Summer Solstice Series” June 17 thru 23. The program opens with Vivaldi’s Concerto for Violin and Cello, RV 547, with Natalie and Nick Haines as soloists, and continues with flutist Josue Casillas performing Vivaldi’s Concerto for Flute #428 “Goldfinch”. Other soloists include Yuri Liberzon, guitarist, performing Vivaldi Concerto RV 82, and harpist Marina Roznitovsky performing Vivaldi Concerto #540. The concert concludes with J.S.

Lake Tahoe SummerFest’s fourth season, “Passport to a World of Music,” will bring Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn to audiences July 31 – Aug. 16 (www.TahoeSummerFest.org). The three weekend series of nine different concerts will transport attendees through masterpieces translated by renowned artists and a nationally acclaimed orchestra of 40 players.

The "Jazz & Beyond: Carson City Music Festival" presents Boogie Woogie Hall of Famer Carl Sonny Leyland in concert on Thursday, Aug. 7, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St., Carson City. "Jazz & Beyond" is a yearly festival put on by the Mile High Jazz Band Association and its sponsors. Admission to this concert is free. Donations are requested and include a chance at a door prize.

This year, the United States celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' first visit to these shores. The "Jazz & Beyond: Carson City Music Festival" is excited to provide two exciting Beatles events in honor of that occasion.

The Third Annual Lake Tahoe SummerFest returns to Incline Village for two weekends of classical music.

Concert goers will be treated to world class music under a tent near the lake at the Sierra Nevada College Campus August 1-3 and August 7-9.

The Lake Tahoe SummerFest orchestra is comprised of world renowned musicians representative of international symphonies including the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco, Seattle, and Vancouver, among others.

Barton Skilled Nursing volunteers wear many hats. They play inspiring music, bring communion, and call bingo. Volunteers turn an ordinary birthday party into a trip down memory lane with music from the past. Musicians share ukulele, piano, and organ music with our residents. They honor our vets. Some volunteers bring in their pets to lick faces and shower our residents with love. Other groups bring church to Skilled Nursing residents every Sunday.

After uprooting from their Nashville home and full-time jobs in June of 2012, the husband and wife duo You Knew Me When set plans to tour the nation for a full year…however, they never stopped. Since that time they have been serving up their craft brewed compositions coast to coast throughout the USA and into Canada, released their first studio album “You, Me, and the Rest of the World”, and have done so as a fully independent entity. Now 18 Months into their ongoing tour, the duo makes a South Lake Tahoe stop on January 25th at the Himmel Haus.

Nevada Rural Housing Authority Mourns Death of Board Commissioner, Former Chairman, Vice Chairman, Tom Cook

Carson City, Nevada-- The Nevada Rural Housing Authority (NRHA) staff, along with its Board of Commissioners, are mourning the death of Commission member, Tom Cook. Cook died at Carson Tahoe Hospital, while surrounded by loving family, on April 25, 2013.

The South Tahoe High School Performing Arts Booster Association will host its 2nd annual special fundraising event ‘Stars Night Out’ on Friday, Dec. 14 at 5 p.m. The fundraiser dinner is $30 per person and will take place at South Tahoe High School.

Participants can purchase their discounted ‘White Christmas’ show ticket for $10 at the theatre where they will be seated in a special section (show ticket not included with dinner fundraiser). Catering by the STHS Culinary Arts and entertainment by the STHS music department.

The ultimate Christmastime crowd-pleaser show is taking place at the Viking Theatre at South Tahoe High School’s Tahoe Arts and Design Academy this December 7, 8, 14 and 15 at 7pm and December 9 and 16 at 2pm. It’s the holiday favorite musical production of Irving Berlin’s White Christmas performed by the students of South Tahoe High School’s Performing Arts Department.

Dave Jenkins returns to Carson City for his second performance at A Concert Under the Stars, a fundraiser for The Greenhouse Project, July 11 with his band, Pablo Cruise.
Jenkins performed four years ago for the inaugural event, which takes place at Café at Adele’s, but his love of music began at a tender age.
