The Squaw Valley skier led the race at one point but was bumped by Norwegian Kjetil Jansrud, who finished third behind race winner Matthias Mayer of Austria and Christof Innerhofer of Italy.

Stacey Cook (Mammoth Mountain, CA) added to the U.S. momentum with ninth, her best super G finish since 2007. Austria’s Elisabeth Goergl won the race, which was a replacement for the canceled super G race last weekend due to a powerful winter storm that sidelined the weekend’s speed events.

Charlie Johnston of Sparks Takes 1st Place in Lake Tahoe Marathon

He led a pack of 271 runners over the 26 mile course from Tahoe City to South Lake Tahoe. Kristin Walstad of Alta, CA was the top female finisher with a time of 3 hours and 13 minutes.
The Lake Tahoe Marathon events also included kayaking, swimming, double marathons, 72 mile race - 22 races in total.

Lake Tahoe Marathon is More Than Just a Race

The man behind the race is Les Wright, long time South Lake Tahoe local. It is tough to find time to talk to Les these days. He is working 18 hour days and the time left for rest finds his mind full of marathon details, planning and organizing.

Inaugural Lake Tahoe Color Themed 5k Run a "Blast"
Submitted by paula on Sun, 09/15/2013 - 11:53amBursts of color surrounded the over 100 runners as they participated in the inaugural Tahoe Youth and Family Service's Color Blast Run on Saturday, September 14. The 5k course meandered through the Lake Tahoe Community College parking lot, streets and bike paths. The race name comes from colored cornstarch that is doused over the runners and they pass by strategically placed stations along the course. Once the runners came across the finish line there was a celebration of dancing and lots more color being tossed.

A Community Carnival will be help on Saturday, September 14 at the Recreation Center from 10 am to 4 pm. There will be live music, a pirate race, a cake walk, rocket launch, limbo contest and more. The carnival is hosted by Gerri Grego, a candidate for El Dorado County Supervisor.

The 21st Great Lake Tahoe Sternwheeler Race churns through the lake’s clear blue waters as the South Shores’ two paddlewheelers, California’s Tahoe Queen and Nevada’s M.S. Dixie II, are pitted against each other, Saturday, Aug. 31, at 10 a.m.
Brunch is served from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. and then departs from respective marinas to battle. The M.S. Dixie II leads the “battle of the paddle,” series 12-8, which is a four-mile race along the shoreline.
South Lake Tahoe police release more details on gas station murder

The suspect is described as a thin male suspect approximately 5’8” to to 5’-10” who entered the USA Gas Station at 2470 Lake Tahoe Boulevard before 11 p.m. shooting the clerk with a handgun and fleeing. A gas station customer found the adult male clerk on the floor in a pool of blood and called 911 for help.

One of the largest gatherings of unique boats in Northern California is the South Tahoe Wooden Boat Classic, July 26-27, at Tahoe Keys Marina and Yacht Club.
Boat enthusiasts can get an up close look at the vessels, talk with their owners and hear the powerful roar behind straight V6, V8 and V12 engines. From the early 1900s to the fiberglass vessels of the 1960s, enthusiasts can see more than 65 wooden antique and classic boats in the water and eight race boats on their trailers.
