Submitted by paula on Sun, 08/30/2015 - 8:25amXDubai, the city’s ambassador for action sports, has released a video series featuring professional surfer Sally Fitzgibbons and Olympic gold snowboarder Jamie Anderson paddle boarding, desert hiking, and engaging in wind tunnel inflight in Dubai.
Titled “Lifestyle Sessions,” the videos are meant to highlight Dubai’s outdoor and extreme sporting activities.
XDubai is the group behind videos of “Jetmen” Yves Rossy and Vince Reffet.
Anderson, who’s participated and won 12 medals, described Dubai as a “Disneyland for athletes.”

New Zealand team wins 520 mile race through the Sierras

Graniteman Challenge celebrates sixth grueling year in Mono County

The Graniteman Challenge, sponsored by the High Sierra Triathlon Club, is a unique three-day combination of the Granite to Granite Swim, a 2.4-mile swim in June Lake on Friday, September 11, the Mammoth Gran Fondo, a 102-mile bike ride on Saturday, September 12 and the Tioga Pass Run, a 12.4-mile run up Tioga Pass on Sunday, September 13.

“Bringing events to this gem of a venue has been a dream for On Course Events for many years,” states Leslie Schultz of On Course Events. “We’re excited to bring people together with great music and recreation in such a beautiful location!”
The new community event series begins at Tahoe Paradise Park with the Tahoe Games Standup Paddleboard Races from 2:00 p.m to 4:00 p.m. The race will be on a custom course built across Lake Baron.

Those were the words of Robin Bender as she spoke to the crowd gathered at El Dorado Beach and Lakeview Commons to remember Francies who drowned in Lake Tahoe on August 13.
Bender, the CFO of South Tahoe Stand Up Paddle, along with owner Chris Brackett, spoke, and Sammantha Bender sang as people with their paddle boards headed off shore to have a paddle-out, the surfing tradition that honors the life of a fallen comrade.

The multi-sport expedition begins on the South Shore at Lake Tahoe August 19 or 20 and spans more than 450 miles of rugged terrain throughout the Sierra Nevada.

Tahoe Games Bike Nights have quickly become the "go-to" family friendly event at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course. They are cross-country bike races on a custom-made illuminated set of trails, 6 miles in all.
Ride the fairways, sand traps and into the rough as the race takes riders over bridges, along the river and back to the clubhouse.

He is listed at 7-2 to win the event over defending champion Mark Rypien and perennial contenders John Smoltz and John Elway.
Rypien, the original favorite, is 5-1 with Smoltz at 6-1 and eight-time champion Rick Rhoden at 7-1 for the 54-hole, modified-Stableford competition at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

Lakeview Commons will be packed full of vendors, stand up paddle board racers, and excitement this weekend as South Tahoe Standup Paddle hosts the annual Race the Lake of the Sky.
This family friendly event attracts some of the world’s best athletes and has become known as the must attend flat water SUP race in the country.
The weekend races include a short course, long distance, team relay, grom races and the SUP Cross Sprint course as well as a race.

There will be seven races for the various age groups starting at 7:30 a.m. and concluding at about 8 p.m.

including runners, friends, and family to South Lake Tahoe this weekend as they Run, Rock, and Recover in this one of a kind event.
On Saturday, June 20, 2,000 runners will take off along the 13.1-mile course from Spooner Summit and wind their way down Highway 50 along the East Shore of Lake Tahoe to the finish line at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe. The course will also take runners off the highway along the newly completed forest bike path from Round Hill Pines to Kahle Drive.

The Optimist Club will be holding the 12th annual “Day In Paradise” at Tahoe Paradise Park in Meyers on June 27. The event includes duck races, pancake breakfast, car show, barbecue featuring Overland Meats burgers, barbecued ribs and hot dogs.
There will be a beer garden and live music by Pre Flight and Deep Fried Mojo. There will also be free games and prizes available for youth. All proceeds go back to the community to support local youth. The event takes place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Duck gates open at 10 a.m. with the first race starting at 11 a.m.

Runners to pass through South Lake Tahoe overnight
Submitted by paula on Fri, 05/29/2015 - 8:20amA race from Reno, around Lake Tahoe, through the Carson Valley, up to Virginia City and back to Reno began Friday morning at 7 a.m. This is the 11th year the Reno-Tahoe Odyssey Relay Run Adventure is taking place and it is growing in popularity each year. There are 253 teams of an average of 12 runners each taking part in the overnight race which covers 178 miles.

STHS sophomore Maya Brosch in the state champ in the 300 meter hurdles for Division 1-A. She ran a time of 45:18.
Whittell sophomore Cole Snyder won the state 1600 meter race for Division 4 schools with by running it in 4:51.53.
The Whittell girl's 4 x 100 relay team of Aisha Ceron, Michelle Barnes, Samantha Forvilly and Lauren George won a state title with a time of 55:24.

Amgen Tour moves Southern California time trials due to snow
Submitted by paula on Wed, 05/13/2015 - 7:52pmIt appears that Lake Tahoe isn't the only stop on the Amgen Tour of California to have snow issues. Friday's men's and women's time trials scheduled for Big Bear Lake have been moved due to a forecast of snow and low temperatures.
The Amgen Tour of California organizers have determined that race day conditions will not be safe for riders, teams, partners, fans or staff participating or attending the Individual Time Trial events scheduled for Friday, May 15 at Big Bear Lake.

June 20, 2015 - 8:00am Enjoy the Tahoe Legends 5k and 10k runs in beautiful South Lake Tahoe. The trails winds through rolling hills, forests and meadows on single track and a bike path. Competitors start at the Lake Tahoe Community College parking lot and finish on the South Tahoe Community Sports Complex, former home of the 1968 Olympic Trials track. All proceeds from this run support the maintenance of the track and field on this site.

Canadian Leah Kirchmann wins Stage 2 of Amgen Tour in SLT
Submitted by paula on Sat, 05/09/2015 - 3:30pmPeople lined the 25-mile Amgen race course from Heavenly to Meyers on Saturday, all waiting to catch a glimpse of the top women cyclists as they quickly passed by.
There were great spectating opportunities, and many locals and visitors took advantage of them, from Ski Run Blvd, along Pioneer Trail to South Upper Truckee.
The course was much different that Friday's trip around the lake, but still a tough one with plenty of climbs, downhills and turns.
After two trips around the course, Canadian Leah Kirchmann emerged the victor, just edging out American Lauren Komanski.
South Lake Tahoe road closures on Saturday

If you want to watch the race along the route it is advised you get in place by 9:30 a.m. as roads will start to close at that time.
Pioneer Trail will be closed to through traffic from Ski Run Boulevard and Pioneer Trail to US Highway 50 in Meyers and Pioneer Trail until 1 p.m. Please plan accordingly.
Final kilometer told the story during Stage 1 of SLT Amgen race
Submitted by paula on Fri, 05/08/2015 - 7:30pm"The way they're dropping off you'd think the Donner Party was back," were the words of the announcer as he reported on the racers heading up Keller Road during the final kilometer of Friday's Amgen race around Lake Tahoe. "There are bodies everywhere," he joked, commenting on the final uphill portion of the race just before the finish line.
After 73.5 miles, the last .6 mile separated the group of women who had stayed in a close pack as they spent three hours racing around the lake.

Street parking is not allowed during these time periods in the following areas with-in the city limits:
· Pioneer Trail from the Intersection of Hwy 50 in the Stateline area to the City Limits by Black Bart Avenue
· Keller Road from Pioneer Trail to Saddle Road
· Tamarack Ave from Pioneer Trail to Blackwood Ave

The Northstar Golf Course opens on May 15 with the rest of the extensive variety of summer adventure following with a May 22 grand opening.

Top women cyclists coming to Lake Tahoe; Amgen Tour course goes through town

Fourteen teams consisting of 84 of the top professional women racers will be in town for the race May 8-9, 2015. The racers consist of Olympic medalists, World Champions, Tour de France competitors and other cyclists from the National and International field.
Many of the teams have already been in the area getting ready for the Lake Tahoe stop on their tour. As we get closer to May 8, more of the participants will be in town.

In true Tahoe fashion, a lack of snow has brought out the creative planning by the organizers of the annual Camp Richardson Snowshoe Cocktail Race. The popular race will take place on the beach in front of the Beacon Bar and Grill. If the weather forecast holds out, the race will be on sand instead of snow.

Bijou Bike Park on Tuesday's City Council agenda
Submitted by paula on Sun, 03/01/2015 - 11:03pmThe Bijou Bike Park will take a step towards reality on Tuesday if the South Lake Tahoe City Council votes to approve the funding and in-kind services staff is recommending.
Members of the Bijou Bike Park Association (BBPA) presented the original project to the City back in September of 2011, and since then they've been working non-stop in their efforts to create the park. South Lake Tahoe BMX and Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association have been helping BBPA in their efforts.
Volunteers needed for Amgen Tour's South Lake Tahoe competition
Submitted by paula on Tue, 02/24/2015 - 7:38pmWhen the women competing on the Amgen Tour of California make their two-day stop in South Lake Tahoe, hundreds of local volunteers will be there to make sure the even is successful.
The two Lake Tahoe stages cover a total of 124 miles with the first on Friday, May 8, circumnavigating the Lake; the second is two-laps through South Lake Tahoe and Meyers, Calif., the town seven miles west of South Shore on Saturday, May 9.
South Lake Tahoe to be start and finish line for Amgen Tour women's race

Fourteen teams will take part in the three stage cycling competition which will have both start and finish lines at Heavenly Mountain Resort's California Main Lodge
The race is sanctioned by Union Cycliste International, denoting the highest level for a non-World Cup event.

The next in a three-part series of Camp Richardson’s Snowshoe Cocktail Races, is set for Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. Racers, cocktail trays in hand, navigate through obstacles and up and down the beach. The winner is the fastest and driest at the finish. Prizes range from dining certificates and marina rentals. Registration is free in multiple race categories. www.camprichardson.com

Lake Tahoe Unified School District has new board member
Submitted by paula on Wed, 02/11/2015 - 12:14amWhen Sue Novasel won November's El Dorado County Supervisorial race it left a vacant seat on the Lake Tahoe Untiifed School Board (LTUSD). A Notice of Vacancy was filed, encouraging locals to apply to fill the trustee position for the remaining 22 months of Novasel's term. At Tuesday's LTUSD School Board meeting, the opening was filled.
North Lake Tahoe's Travis Ganong leads resurgent Americans

Ganong, then 24, had long been considered a rising star in speed events (he won the downhill and super-G national titles in 2010), but he hadn't figured out how to translate his potential to World Cup results. After debuting on the circuit in 2009, it took him three years and 39 races to crack the top 10.
