Inaugural Lake Tahoe Color Themed 5k Run a "Blast"

Bursts of color surrounded the over 100 runners as they participated in the inaugural Tahoe Youth and Family Service's Color Blast Run on Saturday, September 14. The 5k course meandered through the Lake Tahoe Community College parking lot, streets and bike paths. The race name comes from colored cornstarch that is doused over the runners and they pass by strategically placed stations along the course. Once the runners came across the finish line there was a celebration of dancing and lots more color being tossed.

Children running with parents, the cross country teams from STHS and STMS, the boa ladies from Soroptimists, babies in strollers, teens, parents and grandparents all had a great time if the smiles on their faces and their excitement about the next race is any indication.

The overwhelming response was a very positive one for this first year event. TYFS Executive Director Alissa Nourse was very excited about the event and said "we can't wait for the next one!" The agency has plans for a spring event in Douglas County and are already looking forward to the 2nd Annual Color Blast run in 2014 in South Lake Tahoe.
