SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The local community has been showing their love and support for Chris Hogbin and his family. Chris has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma in his neck, lungs, liver, lymph nodes and bones.

He and his wife Sonnet, and their three children "are doing the best they can under the circumstance but things are tough for them right now," said a story on GoFundMe.

Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Jewell’s credentials tout a da Vinci® Surgery certification in benign gynecology. Dr. Jewell joins Barton Health in a time of momentum as the health care system has been recently been recognized for its quality and safety standards for women’s health in the local community.

When Gage Olson's boss at Zephyr Cove Resorts found out her mother was fighting breast cancer he decided he couldn't just stand by and do nothing. He organized a benefit cruise on the Tahoe Bleu Wave to raise funds for Gage's mom, Tisha Young.

Young, 49, who has lived in South Lake Tahoe on and off for over a dozen years, now calls Grants Pass, Oregon her home. She moved there to be with her father as he was on dialysis, and now that he is gone (he died on April 13), she is fighting her own battle, Stage 4A of a rare form of Breast Cancer.

Carolyn Clark Goodenough (Callie) passed away peacefully from complications of Alzheimer’s disease on January 9, 2017 with her husband Ray by her side. Callie was born on August 27, 1938 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to John and Nell Graham. She was the oldest of three children, and, according to her sister, the most mischievous. This caused her poor father much consternation in the conservative ‘50’s.

The family moved around a bit, finally settling in Newport Beach, Calif. Callie earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from San Diego State University.

September 11 evokes a different meaning to South Lake Tahoe resident Christine O’Farrell. In 2002, on the one-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks, Christine was on the operating table at Barton Memorial Hospital facing a new threat: cancer.

Christine had been diagnosed with an aggressive case of breast cancer. At the time, she was 42 years old and working at Barton’s Home Health and Hospice for quality assurance and infection prevention. Her three children were 14, 12, and 9.

The Medical Imaging Department at Barton Health has been awarded a three year term of accreditation by the American College of Radiology as well as the Gold Seal.

“Our radiology staff and facilities have endured a rigorous review process to confirm our medical excellence,” says Tom Davis, Barton’s director of Medical Imaging. “We are very fortunate to have a team of radiologists and staff who are both state and nationally certified and among the most elite in their field.”

The 2014 monthly lecture series from UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center begins January 28 with a presentation on the dangers of radon. Eric Matus of the Nevada Radiation Control Program will lead a public lecture titled “Radon: What you don’t know could hurt you” beginning at 6 p.m. at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences.

The lecture will be at Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences, 291 Country Club Drive, Incline Village, Nevada (on the campus of Sierra Nevada College). No-host bar at 5:30 p.m., lecture at 6:30 p.m.
