The recommended evacuations for the Bodie Flats and Pineview areas have been lifted. Only residents are allowed to these areas. Please drive safely, watch for emergency vehicles, and be ready for possible future instructions in an ever-changing situation.
Multiple local, state, and federal agencies continue to work on containing the fire using dozers, hand crews, and aircraft.
Multiple agencies respond to missing child at Hard Rock Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Wed, 06/10/2020 - 3:41pmSTATELINE, Nev. - Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) responded to the Hard Rock Casino in Stateline at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 10 after they were called about a missing two-year-old girl.
The child's mother had checked into the hotel on Tuesday with her two teenage sons and her daughter. She left the room at 8:00 a.m. to attend a conference being held at the hotel and left the kids sleeping. When she returned at 10:00 a.m. she found the two teens still asleep but her daughter was missing.
Douglas County teams removing debris from river channels ahead of spring flooding
Submitted by paula on Wed, 04/17/2019 - 3:14pmWith warming temperatures and melting snow, Douglas County is reminding residents of the potential for some minor spring flooding in the months to come. With the spring run-off, citizens could expect to see some road closures on arterial roads such as Mottsville, Centerville Lane, Muller Lane and Genoa Lane.
In preparation for flooding, the Douglas County Stormwater Division has been removing flood debris in river channels with the Carson Valley Conservation District, Carson Water Subconservancy and Nevada Division of Water Resources.

City wants citizens to be prepared for high winds and cold temperatures

The week ahead in South Lake Tahoe will be a clear one, but very cold as a strong high pressure system builds over the Sierra causing prolonged periods of strong morning inversions.
The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a wind advisory for Lake Tahoe from 1:00 p.m. Monday to 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. Winds will be from the East 15-25 mph with gusts to 35 mph. Over the ridges will be as high as 80 mph.
Evacuation Center opened in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sun, 01/08/2017 - 5:45pm7:25 p.m. update Sunday - A second evacuation site has been set up at South Tahoe Middle School in the Multi-Purpose Room. It will accommodate pets and is staffed by the City of South Lake Tahoe staff and South Tahoe Action Team volunteers.

The City of South Lake Tahoe and American Red Cross have opened an evacuation center at South Tahoe High School in the school's student union.
It is located at 1735 Lake Tahoe Boulevard. The Recreation Swim Complex is not available as an evacuation center due to flooding at that location.
Douglas County prepares for onslaught of wet weather

Douglas County Emergency Management is preparing for changing flood conditions and the safety of Douglas County residents.
Douglas County encourages all residents to sign up for Reverse 911

The emergency alert system sends text messages in the case of natural disasters, community emergencies, industrial accidents, wildfires, floods, severe weather, chemical spills, or when police actions occur.
Reverse 911 can target all residents in a community down to a single address.
160 homes "evacuated" during South Lake Tahoe emergency drill
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/01/2015 - 9:23pmThough long awaited precipitation decided to fall in South Lake Tahoe Thursday, the Neighborhood Evacuation Drill still went ahead as planned.
"The drill went very well," said SLT Fire Chief Jeff Meston. "Overall a success with lessons learned.
He said there was great interagency cooperation with the South Lake Tahoe Police Department, El Dorado County Search and Rescue, El Dorado County STAR and South Lake Tahoe Action teams, Public Works department, and the Red Cross all joining the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department in the drill.
Highland Woods neighborhood to be evacuated during drill
Submitted by paula on Tue, 09/29/2015 - 8:04amThursday will start off with a reverse 911 call for 270 South Lake Tahoe residents living in the Highland Woods neighborhood.
The neighborhood evacuation drill will take place from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to test the city's emergency system. All visiting or living in the Highland Woods area that wish to participate will be evacuated to the end of Sierra Blvd at the snow dump area. A public information officer will be there along with the Red Cross and informational booths and displays. Snacks will be provided.
Dozens of Skyland residents evacuated during fire drill

That opportunity came on Monday when the Tahoe Douglas Fire District and Skyland Fire Adapted Community executed an inter-agency wildfire evacuation drill in the Skyland neighborhood.
The drill simulated a real evacuation event to give residents the opportunity to practice evacuating from their homes and getting to the designated safe zone.
Tahoe Valley Airport turned into disaster scene

Douglas County assesses flood damage

In doing so, funds can come into the county to help replenish depleted coffers and to help with the repair of public infrastructure such as county maintained roads, culverts, and drainage.
Douglas County residents recovering from flash flood
Submitted by paula on Thu, 08/07/2014 - 9:21pmFlood recovery measures are being taken in the Fish Springs area of Douglas County after Wednesday night's flash flood closed several roads and damaged homes.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff's office, this incident produced hazardous conditions due to the amount of water and dark evening hours which created safety concerns and inhibited immediate damage assessment.
The Reverse 911 was down in Douglas County so emergency messages had to be relayed through the National Weather Service, which is the backup system. Reverse 911 should be back up and working by August 15.
Helicopter aides in search for man in South Lake Tahoe this evening
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/30/2014 - 9:21pmA missing man from the Fair Meadows Court area of South Lake Tahoe prompted a search by a CHP helicopter, El Dorado County Sheriff's officers and Search & Rescue Wednesday evening.
The man, a 66 year old from Pleasant Hill, CA, went out for a walk with his Siberian Husky late in the afternoon. When he didn't return to the home he and his brother and sister-in-law were staying at on Fair Meadows Court within an hour, his family became worried.
Prepare for emergencies with South Lake Tahoe Reverse 911
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/28/2014 - 9:02pmThe power outage that hit the whole south shore last week was the perfect example on why all residents should make sure their cell phones are their contact number for Reverse 911, a system in place that will alert you in the case of an emergency.
Before this week many residents had just their land lines posted on the Reverse 911 system and they didn't receive the warnings because of the lack of electricity in their homes.
Missing Woman Michaela Vandenberg located

South Lake Tahoe Police Department utilized available resources to locate the woman, according to the city's website.
