A ride on the Heavenly Gondola transports Lake Tahoe sightseers to the Mid-Station Observation Deck, a 14,000 square-foot platform nestled among massive granite boulders nearly 3,000 feet above the lake. Offering unparalleled views of the Desolation Wilderness, Carson Valley and, of course, the sparkling waters of Lake Tahoe, the Observation Deck also features Café Blue, an outdoor dining area serving coffee, beer, cold beverages, hot chocolate and snacks.

The train features a 1953 ALCO heritage diesel locomotive leading 100 year-old Pullman coaches displaying the distinctive yellow and green of the V&T.

Avoid DUI Task Force Deploys Extra Patrols For Cinco de Mayo

The Avoid the 6 — El Dorado County DUI Task Force will be deploying DUI saturation patrols throughout into a number of cities supporting routine DUI patrols on Cinco De Mayo starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2012.  Additionally, CHP will be deploying saturation patrols onto freeways and in unincorporated county jurisdictions to stop, test and arrest impaired drivers who fail to use a designated driver.

Homewood Mountain Resort Extends its Season

With the recent snowfall and fantastic spring conditions Homewood Mountain Resort will reopen the weekend of April 13-15, (Friday through Sunday) giving skiers and riders and extra weekend on the mountain.
Depending on weather conditions, the resort will plan to have the mountain open for guests from top to bottom. Shuttles will operate between the North/South lodges every five minutes throughout the weekend. As always, the shuttle rides are complimentary. Lifts open 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Best of Lake Tahoe snowsports season coming up now; storms line up for weekend skiing

OK, so it hasn't been the best snowsport season so far, but hold on, more snow is coming with storms over this weekend and we'll be able to ski off-piste without worrying about slightly hidden rock and logs. Nevada DMV driverless vehicle applications available March 1

With the approval earlier this month of regulations that allow the testing of driverless vehicles in Nevada, application packages will be available March 1 for companies wanting to apply their autonomous test vehicles.

Nevada’s Legislative Commission of the Department of Motor Vehicles approved regulations allowing the testing of driverless — a.k.a. “autonomous” — vehicles to be driven on the state’s roads, according to an announcement on Feb. 15.

Northstar California completes $30 million in upgrades

Northstar California did up things well Tuesday (name change, used to be "at-Tahoe") by officially opening its new multimillion dollar Zephyr lodge at the top of Zephyr lift and a new chairlift, the Promised Land Express. The new quad chair services two new trails. This completes a spending program of $30 million on upgrades, trails and support activities at the Lake Tahoe resort.

Movie Review: 'New Year's Eve' can be enjoyed without a guilty conscience

Sometimes watching a dreck movie and enjoying it can be embarrassing. Such is the case with "New Year's Eve," a multifaceted comedy of sorts playing at the Heavenly Village Cinema. The cast is all-star, from Hilary Swank to Robert De Niro. And while the film is pure twaddle, director Gary Marshall keeps all the balls in the air. And he should be able to; he made the same movie last year on a Valentine's Day theme.

Scoot over: Zimride announces public route to Lake Tahoe

Zimride, the largest online ride-sharing service in North America, today announced that a new route between San Francisco and Lake Tahoe will open to the public beginning Thanksgiving day, bringing Bay Area residents convenient, inexpensive access to one of the country’s top winter destinations. To celebrate the route’s launch, Zimride is giving away $20,000 worth of free gas to riders on the route.
