New zip line to go through treetops in South Lake Tahoe this summer
Submitted by paula on Sun, 05/14/2017 - 7:22pmThe Silver Rush, a new 4,159-foot long zip line opening this summer at Heavenly's Epic Discovery, will take users from tree-to-tree at speeds up to 40 miles per hour. Overlooking the Carson Valley, Silver Rush is comprised of five segmented zip lines; the final of which flies guests over the waters of East Peak Lake.
Once the ride is completed, guests enjoy a scenic ATV ride back to the top of the Gondola. It is a three-hour long experience.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): The highway is reduced to one lane in each direction at Bridal Veil Falls for slope repair work.
U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Bull Creek Road to Alder Creek Road near White Hall: Motorists can expect intermittent one-way traffic control from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to noon Friday for drainage work.

American Katie Hall wins Stage 2 of Amgen women's race in Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 05/12/2017 - 4:49pmThe winner of Stage 2 of the 2017 Amgen Breakaway From Heart Disesase Women's Race Empowered with SRAM race in South Lake Tahoe was decided on the last uphill climb of the day on Ski Run Blvd, the last kilometer of a long and hilly, 67.1 mile long race.
Katie Hall of the United States crossed the finish line first, edging Dutch cyclist Anna van der Breggen by 21 seconds.
Prescribed burning to continue around Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 05/12/2017 - 3:30pmWeather permitting, North Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Douglas fire protection districts, California State Parks, California Tahoe Conservancy, and the U.S. Forest Service may continue prescribed fire operations next week beginning May 15, 2017. If conditions are favorable, operations may take place near Sugar Pine Point, Brockway Summit, Incline Village, Glenbrook, Lower Kingsbury Grade, Ski Run Boulevard, Lake Tahoe Airport, Fallen Leaf Lake and Meyers. Operations may continue over the next several weeks, weather permitting.

Bijou Market Place approved by South Lake Tahoe Planning Commission
Submitted by paula on Thu, 05/11/2017 - 8:44pmGoing away is the Knight's Inn, and in its place will be Bijou Market Place. Halferty Development today announced the name of their South Lake Tahoe project that was formerly known as Bijou Park Creek Watershed Management Southwest Corner Project.
During Thursday's Planning Commission meeting, the commissioners unanimously adopted the resolution that certified the project's Initial Study, Mitigated Negative Declaration, Initial Environmental Checklist and Mitigated Finding of no significant affect. They also approved the permits so now Halferty Development can move forward.
City of South Lake Tahoe sells property to Halferty Development for $3.1 million
Submitted by paula on Tue, 05/09/2017 - 4:26pmPortions of the land where Knight's Inn currently sits and the corner lot at Ski Run Boulevard and Highway 50 were sold today to the Halferty Development Corporation for $3,100,000.
During a special meeting of the City Council two agreements were approved. The first was a Commercial and Disposition and Development Agreement (CDDA) and the second was a Purchase and Sale Agreement by and between the City of South Lake Tahoe and Halferty.

June 9, 2017 - 3:00pm The UCCE Master Gardeners of Lake Tahoe are having their 4th annual Plant Sale takes on a different format this year. Natives and other perennials need more time to grow out of their overwintering slumber so the sale will be held in two segments. Vegetable plants will be sold at the Ski Run Farmers Market on friday, June 9 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (or until all plants have been sold) and the Natives and Perennials will be sold on Saturday, September 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Sierra House Elementary School.

Squaw Valley attempting to keep one lift open all summer long

Plumber's torch sets off fire at Alder Inn in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Tue, 05/02/2017 - 7:06amDamage was kept to a minimum after a quick response by firefighters from South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue on Monday afternoon at the Alder Inn on Ski Run Boulevard.
The fire started on the first floor where a plumber was working with a torch. It went into the second floor through plumbing chases.
"A quick and aggressive fire attack minimized damage to the structure," SLTFR said on their Facebook page.
The call came in at 1:30 p.m. May 1.

Friends, family, firemen and those looking for a great selection of beer and wood-fired pizza all came to see what the newest spot to open in South Lake Tahoe was all about.
Housed in the former Factory Stores at the Y, Aleworx is the first of two restaurants that will make their home at the new Crossing at Tahoe Valley.

Construction to begin on El Dorado Beach to Ski Run Bike Trail in South Lake Tahoe

In preparation for the construction of a new El Dorado Beach to Ski Run Bike Trail this summer, contractors will start removing trees and installing temporary Best Management Practices (BMPs) erosion control and water quality measures next week.
The City of South Lake Tahoe's project includes one mile of a Class 1 trail in a dedicated right-of-way separated from the roadway right-of-way on the north side of U.S. Highway 50 between El Dorado Beach and Ski Run Boulevard. The have hired Sierra Nevada Construction (SNC) for the project.

South Lake Tahoe 5th-Graders take part in Winter Adventure Program

Nearly 300 fifth-grade students from Lake Tahoe Unified School District (TLUSD) took part in the EpicPromise Winter Adventure Program over five days in January and March. The program includes a ride up the ski resort’s Aerial Tram, snowshoeing, and getting hands-on learning experiences at a trio of educational stations.

In honor of Earth Day, the City of South Lake Tahoe joined at least 26 other municipalities in the United States, and the latest in a growing coalition of mountain communities, to commit to 100 percent clean and renewable electricity by the year 2032.

Athletes, family and friends enjoyed a night of ice skating and pizza donated Base Camp Pizza. It is inspiring to see the Ski Patrol making inclusion a reality for our athletes by working with the disabled population.

Crews clearing seasonally closed Sierra passes, some opening dates projected
Submitted by paula on Sun, 04/16/2017 - 11:35amSnow, rocks, boulders, trees and debris are being cleared from roads through the Sierra Nevada that have been closed all winter. Caltrans crews from Districts 9 and 10 are plowing through several feet of snow in some area. While some roads will be opening soon, many have a lot of work to be done before they can open to traffic.
Crews will inspect the road, bridges, culverts to make sure the road is safe for the public before reopening. They will also replace signs that tumbled during the winter.

Tot Egg Hunt at Kahle Community Park- Friday, April 14 - Sponsored by the Tahoe Douglas Firefighter's Association. Tot Egg Hunt is an Extra special day for Family Fun! The Easter Bunny will be hiding eggs outside and you can climb on fire trucks. Come inside and enjoy the bounce house, indoor playground, and refreshments. Bring a basket to collect eggs and a camera for an EGGciting day! Hunt begins at 11:00 AM.

The public is invited to an Electric Vehicle Summit sponsored by Liberty Utilities at the North Lake Tahoe Events Center on Monday, April 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The summit will include displays of two Tesla vehicles, a Proterra 40-foot electric bus and a ChargePoint EV charging station.
The summit agenda:
8:30 a.m.: check-in
9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.: Presentations
12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.: Interaction w/vendors and test drives

A newly formed entity controlled by ski resort operator Aspen Skiing Company, LLC and private equity firm KSL Capital Partners, owners of Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows, will buy Intrawest Resorts Holdings for about $1.5 billion including debt, it was announced Monday.
Intrawest Resorts Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: SNOW) is a leading North American mountain resort and adventure company.
