Planning Commission denies changes to planned cannabis microbusiness in South Lake Tahoe

On January 14, 2021, the City Planning Commission denied a request from James Street LLC to change the name of the approved operator and extend their deadline to open by six months.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Lake Tahoe and other communities around the lake will join the nation on Tuesday, January 19 as they honor those who have died during the pandemic.
South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue and Lake Valley Fire Honor Guard will take part in the nationwide bell-ringing ceremony at 2:30 p.m. There will not be a public ceremony but all are encouraged to ring bells or turn their outdoor lights on to participate in the memorial as well.

First on the agenda is a possible vote on an update to City Code and the design standards included in it after receiving a grant from the State to do so. There have been public workshops and meetings with contractors and developers, along with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), to get their input on the updates the standards.

Updated Lake Tahoe vacation home ordinance passed by El Dorado County

In a unanimous vote Wednesday, the second reading of the ordinance passed, one that adds a ceiling on the number of permits allowed. Supervisor Sue Novasel had to recuse herself because of a resident's request that she do so due to her husband's investment company.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The longstanding tradition of the decorated South Lake Tahoe Fire Truck making the rounds through neighborhoods will be taking a year off due to COVID-19.
The tough decision was made due to safety and protecting participant's health.

The South Lake Tahoe Library is holding a parking lot/sidewalk book sale on Saturday, November 14th from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tables will be set up with a great selection of books to choose from.
Prices are only $5 a bag and $1 per large, coffee table books. Great selection for fireside reading this winter.
For the health and safety of all, masks will be worn, entry will be monitored to one person (or family group) per table and hand sanitizer will be available. At check-out, correct change is appreciated.
City of South Lake Tahoe adopts Climate Action Plan

This plan will be used as a dynamic, policy-guiding roadmap to provide insight on strategies and actions that can be taken in the community to help move towards is two climate goals - 100 percent renewable community electricity by 2032 and a 80 percent reduction in community greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.

Lake Tahoe Historical Society provides map to Halloween decorations at South Lake Tahoe homes
Submitted by paula on Tue, 10/20/2020 - 9:33amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With a change in the normal Halloween celebrations due to coronavirus, volunteers with the Lake Tahoe Historical Society have created a map to local homes decorated for the season. This is a great way to enjoy the holiday in a socially distanced manner.
LTHS has added the map to their website and will have printed copies at the museum starting October 20.
There are no specific address listed, just a pumpkin placed in the area of a home found to have a display for all to enjoy by walking, biking or driving by.

Throughout the month of September, people are encouraged to get outside and walk or hike with friends and family, or on your own. Physical activity and spending time outdoors is good for our mental wellness so this is the perfect time to encourage and empower others to join this movement.
All monies raised benefit the prevention, education and outreach programs at Suicide Prevention Network.

The well known local businesswoman was 82.
Marjorie was as a very kind and sweet person, always greeting everyone with a cheerful smile and a hug. Her strong courage, humility, honesty and faith guided her successful path through life.
She was born on February 24, 1938 and moved with her family to South Lake Tahoe in 1947 where they lived at the Al Tahoe Pines Resort. The family's marine service station was where the current Globin's building and Pick 6 are currently located.
Conservancy awards City of South Lake Tahoe $425K to plan downtown 56-acre project

“The 56-Acre site is already a vibrant gathering place for community members and visitors alike, and it has the potential to be so much more,” said South Lake Tahoe City Councilmember and Conservancy Board member Tamara Wallace.

Submitted by paula on Mon, 06/08/2020 - 3:32pmOn Thursday afternoon about 4:30 p.m. a fire crew from South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) responded to a brush fire at the Christian Science Church near Smart & Final. The crew managed to contain and extinguish the blaze and the church building sustained only minimal damage.
A shopping cart was found near what appeared to be the fire origin and contained what appeared to be personal property. The exact cause of the blaze is unknown but illegal campers have been a continuing problem in that area.
City of South Lake Tahoe facilities to start reopening
Submitted by paula on Thu, 05/28/2020 - 2:56pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe will be opening their boat ramp at El Dorado Beach on Friday, May 29. Only boats with valid Tahoe, Echo Lake or Fallen Leaf Lake seals and a 2020 Tahoe sticker will be able to launch. "Tahoe Only" stickers are available for purchase at this launch site. They will be open Friday through Sunday only at this time from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Only one boat will be able to occupy the dock at a time. The boat ramp will be not be accepting cash and wireless payment technology will be utilized.
Council approves $200,000 to go to business grants, COVID expenses and restaurant vouchers

Following on the heels of their $50,000 donated to five nonprofits supplying food to the South Lake Tahoe community during the pandemic, the Council voted to follow the direction of the task force and allocate $100,000 to fund the COVID Compliance Grant Reimbursement Program, $50,000 for a Small Business Grant Program, and $50,000 to a Local Restaurant Voucher Program.

El Dorado County senior nutrition program offers drive-up meal service

The South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, along with others in the county are offering drive-up "Take-Out" meals for all El Dorado County residents age 60 and older. This gives its older adult clients the needed hearty and nutritional meals in a safe environment.

TRPA approves 6,000 seat Tahoe South Event Center

Edgewood Tahoe has donated the 13.3 acres at the corner of Lake Parkway and Highway 50 needed for the center.

Lake Tahoe Unified School District
Both concerts scheduled for this week have been canceled.
All upcoming kindergarten tours have been canceled.
Contact individual schools for on-site meetings.
All high school athletic games and meets have been canceled until further notice.
South Lake Tahoe City Council narrows down list of city manager candidates to four
Submitted by paula on Mon, 03/02/2020 - 7:53pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe City Council narrowed down their candidate pool for the open city manager position to four during a special closed session meeting Monday, March 2, 2020.
The names of the four candidates will be released later this week according to the SLT Communications Manager Chris Fiore.
The public is invited to a reception with the finalists on Monday, March 9 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Idle Hour, 3351 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.
Final interviews will be held in closed session following the Council's March 10 meeting.

Join the Friends of the Library for an illustrated talk by Steve Robison, printer at Tahoe Letterpress. Mr. Robison will explain how Mark Twain wound up in Virginia City, and on occasion in the Lake Tahoe basin. He will also share his discovery of a vast collection of antique 1860's type from the Territorial Enterprise newspaper in Virginia City where Mark Twain was a reporter and city editor during the early silver discoveries of the Comstock Lode.

Submitted by paula on Mon, 02/24/2020 - 11:14pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Thanks to the men and women of South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge #1632 and Bread & Broth Team #3 volunteers, a wonderful meal was served to all of the dinner guests who attended the Monday Meal at St. Theresa Grace Hall February 17. The Moose Lodge sponsored their annual Adopt A Day (AAD) of Nourishment by donating $300 to cover the costs of the food and associated expenses necessary to provide the hot, full-course meal served at the dinner.
New hotel coming to South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 02/17/2020 - 11:55amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The old Super 8 motel on Lake Tahoe Boulevard and adjacent Lotus Pho restaurant in South Lake Tahoe are currently closed as pre-construction activities have begun on a four-story 120-unit Hampton Inn and Suites.
The asbestos abatement has been completed as have the pre-demolition permits and the current two-story building is set for demolition soon. Once that happens, crews will be waiting for the May 1 grading date to get started on what is promised to be a "facelift to the area."

with low-to-moderate incomes through the AARP Tax-Aide program.
There is no appointment necessary. You must bring your social security card,
photo ID, 2019 tax documents, and a copy of your 2018 tax return.
All tax returns are prepared and filed on site at no cost to the taxpayer.

Lake Tahoe Republican Women's Lincoln Day Dinner is on Thursday, February 13 at 5:30 PM at Tep's Villa Roma Italian Restaurant, 3450 Lake Tahoe Blvd. Enjoy a declicious buffet dinner followed by great speakers: Judge Steven Bailey (Ret.) regarding the Election Integrity Project of California; SLT City Councilmember Tamara Wallace; and Todd White of El Dorado County Republican Party.
