SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The public is invited to join the Sugar Pine Foundation and the Tahoe Rim Trail Association on National Trails Day, Saturday, June 2, at Van Sickle Bi-State Park.
The two organizations are teaming up for a morning of education and fun on the three- mile hike from 9:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m.
On the way up to enjoy panoramic vistas with a brief visit to a waterfall, delve into the intriguing natural and human history of the area, discuss forest topics related to the trail you’re passing through, and see firsthand the impacts of a wildfire burn zone.

What many don't know is where those donations go. There was question recently in the community about donations, so the club wanted to clear up any misunderstandings.
The club recently created a diagram to better explain where each penny goes as they don't have must left over funds after they issue scholarships, grants and other forms of financial support.

SnowGlobe wrap up: Global attention, donations, the environment and fields
Submitted by paula on Thu, 01/04/2018 - 10:55pmAs the tents are taken down, the stage removed and all other components of SnowGlobe disappear for another year, an evaluation of the Community Play Field and other aspects of the seventh annual event in South Lake Tahoe are being made. There may be negatives to the popular event that draws in 20,000 people a day, there are also many positives to be celebrated.
There is more to the three-day festival, SnowGlobe, than music and crowds, a side of the event many aren't aware of.

The Board also elected Lynn Suter as Vice Chair, filling a post vacated by former Conservancy Board Member John Hooper earlier this year.

California Tahoe Conservancy gives over $400k to West Shore forest health

The funding is the first allocation of more than $6.8 million in Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act funds awarded to the Conservancy at last year’s Presidential Summit.

Sugar Pine Foundation gets musician Jack Johnson's help this summer

The West Shore has been restored from Tahoe City South to Sugar Pine Rd. and HWY89 (735 Customers). South Shore crews are deployed and working on six primary wires serving multiple areas. Restoration times are estimated between 8:00 p.m. tonight and tomorrow afternoon. Tahoe Pines Area (Barker Pass Rd. to Cherry St.) has very heavy damage with multiple poles down that requires helicopter repair. Weather permitting, helicopter repair will start tomorrow.

Currently, Bread & Broth serves a full-course ‘Monday Meal’ at St. Theresa Church Grace Hall and a soup and simple entrée at ‘Second Serving’ at the Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church on Fridays. These two weekly meals and the food ‘give away’ bags distributed at the meals are supported by generous stores, businesses and restaurants who have donated food, beverages and soups to our program throughout the past year.

This is a great event for the entire family. There will be Holiday Cookies and treats by Cakes by Grace, Don Ewing, The Flour Girl, Sugar Pine Bakery and Starbucks, as well as egg nog, cider and hot chocolate.

Since the parks offer endless opportunities for inspiration, the Youth Art Contest is a way for young people to draw on those experiences to create art featuring their encounters with wildlife and nature, learning about history and culture or enjoying recreation.

Emerald Fire burning near South Lake Tahoe consumes 210 acres, is now 80% contained
Submitted by paula on Fri, 10/14/2016 - 7:07am8:00AM update 10/15: Highway 89 remains closed in both directions from Fallen Leaf Lake Road to Emerald Bay due to the Emerald Fire which remains 80 percent contained this morning. Acreage burned is 210 acres.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
There are 3 engines and 12 firefighters still on the scene.
Opening time for Hwy 89 is still unclear. CHP estimates Saturday afternoon and Caltrans estimates the road will be closed until Monday. This is to allow crews to clean up the fallen trees and other debris on, and near, the roadway.

Volunteers sought for Ed Z'Berg Sugar Pine Point State Park
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/06/2016 - 8:14pmCalifornia State Parks is looking for volunteers to help them prepareEd Z'Berg Sugar Pine Point State Park for winter. They are holding a work day on October 26 from noon to 3:00 p.m.
Help prepare the park grounds for the approaching winter. Projects may include raking the lawn, weeding in the native plant gardens, and laying new grass seed.
There will be free limited overnight camping for volutneers. If interested in camping, email parkchampionstacy@gmail.com.
All volunteers will be rewarded with a card for a free Chipotle burrito.

State Route 89 (Placer County): Work continues on a $70.1 million project from Tahoma to just north of Granlibakken Road in Tahoe City that is upgrading storm water drainage and treatment systems, adding curb and gutter, resurfacing and realigning the road, adding new left-turn pockets and widening shoulders on an 8-mile stretch of the highway. Completion is expected by summer 2017.
