It is a snow day for most Lake Tahoe area schools.

A snowboarder missing since yesterday afternoon was found deceased at Squaw Valley Ski Resort on Friday. Rocklin resident Wenyu Zhang, 42-years-old, was found deceased this morning by Squaw Valley Ski Patrol. A search area was narrowed through the use of a tracker program used by the resort.

The blizzard warnings in the Lake Tahoe basin have prompted school officials to close schools, or in the case of Douglas County, put them on late start.

Lake Tahoe Unified School District is on a Snow Day. All Schools Will be CLOSED today due to the Blizzard Warning issued by the National Weather Service.

California ski towns are going to have to wait a little longer for recreational marijuana.

On Jan. 1, adults 21 and over will be allowed to possess up to 1 ounce of recreational marijuana in California, but most ski towns in Northern California won't allow sales of retail product yet.

Some of the most popular ski towns in Northern California — South Lake Tahoe, Truckee and Mammoth Lakes included — have moratoriums on recreational marijuana businesses, which means that product won’t be available until late spring, at the earliest.

At its annual conference Wednesday, the Nevada Chapter of the American Planning Association recognized the Tahoe-Truckee Plug-In Electric Vehicle Readiness Plan with awards for most outstanding plan and most outstanding public outreach. The awards were presented as part of the group’s annual DeBoer Awards program.

It wasn't your typical high school class at Tahoe Forest Hospital Wednesday. Approximately 60 students enrolled in advanced placement biology and human body systems classes scrubbed in to witness a total knee replacement surgery on a cadaver in the University of Nevada's advanced surgical lab at their North Shore location.

Ever consider growing fruits and vegetables in your garden here in Tahoe? Join UCCE Master Gardeners of Lake Tahoe this May for free workshops to learn how food can be grown at the Lake. Participants receive instruction on cultivation techniques, and history/background on the plants being highlighted. Everyone will leave with free plants for their gardens. These are family friendly workshops, with hands-on opportunities to get acquainted with growing vegetables.

Tahoe Truckee School District schools have joined Lake Tahoe Unified schools and are closed today, Monday, March 6.

Douglas County schools at the lake are open but starting 90 minutes late and students will be picked up at main stops only.

Incline Village schools are on a two-hour delay.

Pollock Pines elementary and middle school are having a snow day as well. El Dorado High School is on a two-hour delay.

"Women's soccer has arrived," said Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) Women's Soccer Coach Jeremy Evans as he introduced the six South Tahoe High School (STHS) athletes that will be playing for him in the fall.

"I think we will finally be there," Evans said of a team that is primed for post-season play. Not only did he recruit the six young ladies from STHS, he also is adding a Truckee player, one from Reno, a Las Vegas player who was on state championship team for four years and has 14 returnees from his 2016 team.

Almost $20,000 was recently awarded to the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District (TTUSD) for improvements made in 2016 to increase energy efficiency at two school facilities.

Even though the check Liberty Utilities gave to TTUSD was for $19,638.42, the district can expect more than $15,700 in annual energy bill savings.

The rebate represented the largest incentive payment provided to any commercial customer by Liberty Utilities since it began operations in the Lake Tahoe and surrounding region.

Due to narrow, unsafe, unnavigable bus routes in both the city and county, all Schools in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District will be closed today, Tuesday January 24, 2017.

Douglas County Schools are open, but those at the lake are on a main bus stop only schedule.

Tahoe Truckee Schools are open except for Donner Trail Elementary which is closed due to lack of power.

Incline Village schools are open.

Pollock Pines schools are on a snow day.

More schools will be having a snow day on Monday. Zephyr Cove Elementary and Whittell High School just announced their closure. The other Douglas County Schools in the valley will be on a two-hour delayed start.

Up at Tahoe Truckee School District, they are watching snow and road conditions and will make their decision at 4:00 a.m. Monday morning.

Lake Tahoe Unified School District on the South Shore already announced their snow day for January 23.

Incline Village schools will also be closed and all other Washoe County schools are on a two-hour delays.

Over one hundred community members will gather on May 14 as the League to Save Lake Tahoe organizes the year’s largest single-day, hands-on citizens science effort to capture a snapshot of the water quality health of South Shore streams feeding into Lake Tahoe.

“By participating in the 16th annual Snapshot Day, volunteers are building on years of data gathered in these streams to provide valuable data information we can use to help protect Lake Tahoe,” said Jesse Patterson, deputy director for the League to Save Lake Tahoe.

More than a hundred trained volunteers will continue a 15 year tradition with a one-day hands-on effort to capture a snapshot of the health of Lake Tahoe’s watershed on May 16 at Lake Tahoe Community College.

The Gene Upshaw Memorial Golf Classic is moving to Truckee's Schaffer's Mill in 2015, the seventh year of the tournament.

Upshaw, who played often in South Lake Tahoe's American Century Celebrity Golf, withdrew from the 2008 tournament held July 11-13 that year. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in North Lake Tahoe just a month later. He had a home on the North Shore and was hospitalized at Tahoe Truckee Hospital where he died on August 20, 2008.

Zawadisha, a Tahoe-based global women’s empowerment organization, announced today that South Lake resident and Lean In partner Rayona Sharpnack will be the keynote speaker at its inaugural “Women as Change Makers: Leading and Thriving in the 21st Century,” conference, to be held October 3rd at the North Tahoe Event Center. Sharpnack, the CEO of the Institute for Women’s Leadership, has facilitated women’s leadership trainings for such Fortune 500 companies as Microsoft, Charles Schwab, and Hewlett Packard.
