Close to 70 nominees will be celebrated at the 12th annual Blue Ribbon Awards on Thursday, Nov. 14 at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe Hotel and Casino. Join the Tahoe Chamber in celebrating the businesses and individuals that make the South Shore a great community to live, work and play. Admission to this event is $65 for Tahoe Chamber members and $85 for non-members. Tickets include champagne, wine and full 3-course dinner prepared by Harrah’s executive culinary team. Table sponsorships are also available for purchase.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The premiere of the multi award-winning film, Life Cycles, will be held at a Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association (TAMBA) fundraiser at South Lake Brewing Company on March 22.

Local Freshies® is hosting the event with the brewery located at 1920 Lake Tahoe Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the show starts at 7:00 p.m. All ages are invited and the cost is $5 each.

Looking for some sweet gear? Shop until you drop for skis, snowboards, bikes, climbing gear, camping equipment, and other outdoor toys. Cash or credit cards will be accepted. If you've got quality summer or winter gear to sell, come on down. Merchandise registration will take place in the parking lot between 8:00am-9:30am; there is a $1 cash per item fee to register for the swap. Please no equipment over five years old. Unsold merchandise can be picked up between 2pm-3pm; unclaimed items will be donated. 20% of the proceeds will go to the MCF.

Non-profit partners of government agencies play a critical role in managing trails, recreation, planning and other essential activities taking place on public lands. Locally, the Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) is the region’s largest non-profit trail organization and has the primary responsibility for managing and maintaining about 200 miles of hiking, biking and equestrian trails in and around the Tahoe Basin in partnership with the US Forest Service (USFS) and NV State Parks.

The community is invited to celebrate another great year of mountain biking and trail building with the Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association (TAMBA) at their Fall Party on Saturday, November 4 at the Heavenly California Main Lodge.

As we transition to winter they will have the premier showing of MSP Film's Drop Everything during the evening which also features a pasta dinner, drinks, raffle prizes and swag. They will also be holding a membership drive.

The party starts at 6:00 p.m. with the film showing around 7:00 p.m.

The 5th Annual Tahoe Mountain Bike and Brew Festival will be held on August 26-27 in Meyers and celebrates the "perfect pairing" of mountain biking and beer, all headquartered at the The Divided Sky, Meyers.

Try out the latest bikes from Ibis, Specialized, Trek, Norco, Pivot, YT Industries, Intense, and Rocky Mtn, and sample craft brews from local breweries including South Lake Brewing Company, Lake Tahoe Aleworx, Coldwater Brewery and 50/50 Brewing.

Local bicycling advocates spent Friday at South Tahoe Middle School, teaching students about bike safety, bike skills and how to do repairs on bikes.

As part of the 12th annual Tahoe Bike Challenge, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), the Lake Tahoe Bike Coalition and the Community Mobility Group put the students through a series of stations learning how to fit helmets correctly, how to do hand signals, a skills rodeo, the parts of a bike and how to fix a flat and do other repairs and an obstacle course.

The Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association (TAMBA) and the U.S. Forest Service are teaming up this summer to build six miles of new trails in the Fallen Leaf Lake and Angora Ridge area, the first phase of 15 miles of trails in the area which will cost $120,000.

This Sunday, the community is invited to a special fundraiser for the project at the Blue Angel Cafe in South Lake Tahoe.

TAMBA Tahoe Trail Summit is happening this weekend at the Beach Retreat & Lodge in South Lake Tahoe. It's open to the public and don''t miss out on their Mother's Day Ride and breakfast! Then NEXT Saturday is the Head Injury of Northern Nevada's Walk and Roll which help generate funds for their activities for the year.

As we welcome in 2016, the City of South Lake Tahoe would like to reflect on the accomplishments of 2015. The following is a summary of accomplishments during 2015.

Strategic Priority: Fiscal Sustainability
The most important issue facing cities and local agencies is continued steadfast attention to the budget, both short term and long term fiscal impacts.
· FY 15/16 budget adopted on time and without use of alternative revenues (3rd consecutive year).
· Adopted 5-year Financial Forecast and 5-Year Capital Investment Plan.

Long after the barbecue was over, long after the booths, announcers and crowds were gone, cyclists were still riding the new trails at the Bijou Bike Park as the sun was setting on Saturday night.

The Bijou Bike park was officially opened in a ceremony that followed the City of South Lake Tahoe's 50th Anniversary parade.

After opening statements by park creators, City Council and the Mayor, Ted Wendell spoke to the crowd as the Bijou Bike Park was dedicated to his late brother Tom, who died in 2012.

South Lake Tahoe mountain bike pioneer, Gary Bell, owner of Sierra Ski and Cycle Works, is sponsoring a History of Lake Tahoe Mountain Biking Exhibit at the Meyers Mountain Bike (MTB) Festival on Sunday, August 9, 2015.

“I want to help people understand the roots of Tahoe mountain biking, and how it’s evolved over the past three decades,” says Bell.

Biking and walking positively contribute to Lake Tahoe's economy, but by how much? This subject will be discussed during May's Tahoe Talks Brown Bag speaker series on May 20, 2015. This will feature a panel discussion on what is currently known about how biking and walking impact Tahoe's economy, and how we can find out more.

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is asking for public input on a proposal to reconstruct the Kingsbury Stinger Trail near Kingsbury Grade. The Stinger Trail runs approximately 2.75 miles from Genoa Peak Road (Forest Road 14N32) to Terrace View Drive on lower Kingsbury Grade and is open to all-terrain vehicles, motorcycles and mountain bikes. The trail is very steep in places, is prone to erosion, crosses private land for approximately 280 feet on the lower segment and no longer meets current Forest Service standards for safety and sustainability.

From exciting bike events to new world-class bike trails, 2014 was a great year for biking in Lake Tahoe. In no particular order, the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition presents ten of the best highlights from the past 12 months:

The Tahoe Area Biking Association (TAMBA) and the U.S. Forest Service are inviting the public to join them as they celebrate the grand opening of the Monument Pass Trail near South Lake Tahoe.

On October 12, bikers will start off at the Bijou Community Park on Al Tahoe Blvd. at 9 a.m. Join the USFS Trail Crews on the 25 mile ride which will include 3500 feet of climbing (and decent).

The ride will go up Al Tahoe Blvd across Pioneer Trail to the Cold Creek Trail, up to Star Lake and Monument Peak, and back down.

It was a lot more fun than sections of the Flume Trail and Rim Trail we’ve ridden, two XC rides that weren’t as exciting as we had hoped on longer travel rigs. After a discussion with Nat Lopes about building table top jump lines last year, (Nat and his company Hilride consulted on the project) I was looking forward to seeing the jump line on lower Corral.

The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit of the U.S. Forest Service and the Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association have been working together for a couple of years to improve mountain bike trails all while protecting the natural resources of our local forests. Lake Tahoe is a special place, loved and used by millions of visitors each year from around the world. The local forest service has been at the forefront of working collaboratively with user groups and the public to ensure that protecting the environment of this special place, still allows for uses that are compatible and fun.

A Bands for Bikers fundraiser will be at the American Legion Hall, 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd., beginning at 5 p.m. TAMBA and the SLT BMX Association, in conjunction with the Tahoe Basin Land Management Unit of the Forest Service will hold this fundraiser to build a pump track and mountain bike skills park at Bijou Community Park. Fundraiser includes bands, bmx bike demonstrations, silent auction, music and food.
