Students from South Tahoe High School are back from their Presidents’ Day break just in time for Advanced Placement, SAT and ACT tests to begin. The SAT exam takes place on March 9, while the ACT test is scheduled for April 13.
With the constant snow, the some of the students at STHS said they’re feeling the effects.
Alex Boyko, junior, said the miserable weather has made him a lot sadder recently.

State schools chief visits California's smallest district - Alpine County
Submitted by paula on Tue, 09/25/2018 - 11:49pmCalifornia's State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson is wrapping up his final term by touring some of the state's schools.
In just a few days he went from visiting a school in Los Angeles with an enrollment of 4,000 to touring Alpine County Schools and the Diamond Valley Elementary School campus, in particular, which has 80 students from kindergarten through eighth grade.
“It is a small school in numbers but mighty in its focus and learning,” said Torlakson in Alpine County on Sept. 20.
"The Angel of Tahoe" assists Tahoe Douglas Rotary's efforts with $100K
Submitted by paula on Sat, 06/02/2018 - 8:54pmLisa Maloff, the South Shore philanthropist responsible for millions of dollars being distributed throughout the community, has donated $100,000 to Tahoe-Douglas Rotary Club.
The funds will go to the club's efforts to strengthen the South Shore of Lake Tahoe Community and improve humanity world-wide.
"We're honored that Ms. Maloff trusts our Club with her generous donation," said Club President Ashley Colvin. "We're already making plans to put the donation to good use through the ongoing service and support that we provide to our local community throughout the year."
Tahoe Legends Run to raise funds for South Lake Tahoe track

The 5K Tahoe Legends Run, a fun run (or walk) that raises money annually for the South Tahoe Middle School track, will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018. Competitors will start at Lake Tahoe Community College and finish on the track at the school's South Tahoe Community Sports Complex, former home of the 1968 Olympic Trials Track.
Participants will weave through rolling hills, forests and meadows on single track trails and bike paths.

The famed singer and entertainer returned to campus Saturday, Aug. 22, to reminisce about his record 6’ 5 1/2” jump set in 1956.
Whittell's Cole Snyder tops in state in 1600m and 3200m
Submitted by paula on Sat, 05/16/2015 - 7:32pmWhittell High sophomore Cole Snyder wrapped up the Nevada State Track and Field Championships with two first place finishes and one fourth place for Division IV schools. Snyder won the 3200 meter on Saturday with a time of 10:28.77, the 1600 meter yesterday with a time of 4:51.53. His fourth place came in the 800 meter, just .58 seconds off the lead with a time of 2:08.54.

June 20, 2015 - 8:00am Enjoy the Tahoe Legends 5k and 10k runs in beautiful South Lake Tahoe. The trails winds through rolling hills, forests and meadows on single track and a bike path. Competitors start at the Lake Tahoe Community College parking lot and finish on the South Tahoe Community Sports Complex, former home of the 1968 Olympic Trials track. All proceeds from this run support the maintenance of the track and field on this site.

Submitted by paula on Fri, 06/27/2014 - 10:41pmRegarded by many as the best track and field team ever, members of the 1968 Olympic team returned to the site of their high altitude training center and U.S. Olympic Men's Track & Field Trials on Friday as the location was honored with a California State Historical Marker.
A crowd of a few hundred people gathered at Echo Summit for "Return to the Summit" which honored the unique location as well as the unique time and team. There were tumultuous times in 1968 prior to the Olympics with the assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr and Bobby Kennedy as well as the Vietnam War.
