Valhalla art camps for kids to start in July

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Tahoe Arts Alliance will hold their inaugural Alliance Awards ceremony in the South Tahoe High School TADA Building on Saturday, April 13. The awards will recognize excellence in visual and performing arts as well as recognition of those who have contributed to and supported local art.
Doors open at 5:00 p.m. Mingling and light refreshments will be from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and the show begins at 6:00 p.m. This is a formal event and "dress to impress."

All are invited to the opening event on Saturday, June 30 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to celebrate our most precious national treasure: LOVE. Work from Tahoe artists Scott Forrest, Shelley Zentner, Red Stickman, Catherine Schoen, Hayden Tencher, and emerging artists from South Tahoe High School will be on display. Local musician Hailie Hay will be performing new music. This event is free and open to the public. All are welcome.

The Tahoe Art League will be presenting two South Lake Tahoe artists and one local art car owner and their Burning Man art at their next business meeting to be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
There will be a short meeting prior to the presentation. The artists will present photos and stories of their Burning Man art projects and will be available for questions.
The free presentation will be held in the Lake Tahoe Community College Board Room/Aspen Room.

The beauty of the forms that we see almost every day in local nature are rendered in black and white film and digital photography. Mori is also an accomplished culinary artist whose career has taken him as far as Antartica. Mori’s imagery incorporates his focus on both textures and the abstract patterns and compositions that he sees through the lens, plating Tahoe’s natural forms for the viewer to savor.

In South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, September 16 after Sample the Sierra, a new community event will be held to benefit Tahoe Youth & Family Services.
Local Art After Dark at the Benko Art Gallery will feature live music, live art, dance performances, local food and drinks from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Tickets are $20 at the door and $10 for Sample the Sierra ticket holders and locals (will need to show wristband or local ID at the door. Locals include Tahoe basin and extends to Placerville and Carson/Reno).
Christine Cosbey Smith March 10, 1949 - July 23, 2016
Submitted by paula on Thu, 08/04/2016 - 8:25amChristy Smith was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Wife, Sister and Daughter who dedicated her life to the service of others, especially children. She passed away on July 23rd after a courageous battle with cancer.
Christy was born March 10, 1949 in Altadena, California to Jack and Marjorie Cosbey. She spent her childhood in Southern California, graduating in 1967 from Long Beach Polytechnic High School. She studied Nursing at Long Beach State College and worked as a nurse in Cardiology and Family Practice.

South Lake Tahoe needs to be interesting and ready to give a total experience
Submitted by paula on Sun, 05/01/2016 - 11:55amThere was once a time when having a beautiful lake, spectacular scenery and non-stop action and gambling was enough for the tourist to visit South Lake Tahoe and the South Shore.
This is no longer the case and the community needs to become future ready.
Carl Ribaudo, owner of Strategic Marketing Group, spoke at the Future Ready Tourism Forum at Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel on April 26, 2016.
While change is always tough Ribaudo said, South Lake Tahoe needs to be prepared as the tourist shifts from making a transaction when coming to Tahoe to wanting an experience.

"Sneak Peek" of the Proposed Loop Road Open House

From 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel, staff members from supporting agencies will be on hand to present the proposed plan for the U.S. Hwy 50 Revitalization Plan (also known as the Loop Road).
Community update meeting on the South Shore Community Vitalization Project

Known as the "Loop Road," the U.S. 50/South Shore Community Revitalization Project is about two months away from having its environmental analysis completed. Expecting that completion in January, 2015, the Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) is holding a community meeting will update people on the plan to realign traffic through the casino corridor.
Planners are working on a concept with a more walkable, bikeable and transit friendly "main street" from Pioneer Trail's intersection with Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe to the loop road to the east side of MontBleu.
