Road and closure update: Traffic on US50 being held, LTCC closing at 6 pm

6:50 p.m. update: US50 is back open but SR89 at Emerald Bay remains closed as does SR88 just west of Kirkwood.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A winter storm is currently delivering heavy snow and creating unsafe road conditions in the Lake Tahoe Basin. There are several updates to roads and schools for Thursday at 5:00 p.m.:

Due to numerous spinouts, traffic on US50 is being held at Twin Bridges. Crews are also in the region performing avalanche control.

SR89 at Emerald Bay is closed due to unsafe conditions. No estimated time of reopening.

SR88 after Kirkwood is closing at 4:30 p.m.

Lake Tahoe Community College is closing at 6:00 p.m. All scheduled evening classes and events are canceled, including the Trio of Artist Receptions event planned for 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Due to the weather & potentially dangerous road conditions, the Governor ordered all Nevada State government offices (other than essential public safety and corrections personnel) to be closed, effective at 3:30 pm today, in Carson City, Washoe County, Storey County, Lyon County & Douglas County. This means Western Nevada College's Carson City and Douglas Campuses will be closed for the remainder of the evening.
