Chain controls and road closures as latest storm passes through Lake Tahoe

4:15 P.M. UPDATE: Road controls are back in place, along with closure of I-80 at the Nevada/California state line due to a 25-car pile-up.

Traffic on Highway 50 over Echo Summit is still slow moving with the back up for westbound travel backed up near the intersection of Hwy 50 and 89 at the Y.

It is slow moving on roads heading in and out of Lake Tahoe Sunday morning as the latest storm drops several inches of snow.

Highway 89 at Emerald Bay is currently closed for avalanche control from D.L. Bliss State Park to 5 miles north of the Y.

Chain controls as of 10:30 a.m. are as follows:

Highway 50 - Chains are required on all vehicles except 4WD vehicles with snow tires from 3 miles east of Kyburz to Meyers. Chains or snow tires from Carson City to Statline.

Highway 89 - Chains or snow tires are required from Markleeville to Woodfords. Chains are required on all vehicles except 4WD vehicles with snow tires from Picketts Junctions to 2.7 miles south of the junction with Hwy 50. Chains or snow tires required from D.L. Bliss State Park to Tahoe City and from Squaw Valley to I-80.

Hwy 88 - Chains are required on all vehicles except 4WD vehicles with snow tires from 3.6 miles west of Dew Drop in Amador County to 3.5 miles east of Woodfords.

Hy 395 - Chains or snow tires from .02 mile post marker to mile post marker 31.4 in Douglas County.
