Higgs boson and gravity to be topic at LTCC physics talk

“Recent Discoveries on the Frontiers of Science: Higgs boson & Gravitational Waves” is the topic at the next free community event at Lake Tahoe Community College on Tuesday, February 16 at 6:00 p.m.

While the topic may seem heavy, Dr. James Brau will explain the recent discoveries in physics in easy-to-understand terms.

The University of Oregon professor will explain new discoveries in elementary particles, such as the Higgs boson, and what its discovery might mean for science in the years to come. He’ll also discuss what gravitational waves are, and explore brand-new evidence that just may prove their existence.

Dr. Brau is the Knight Professor of Natural Science at the University of Oregon, and directs the Center for High Energy Physics. He has taught physics and astronomy at the university since 1988. He earned his doctorate at MIT in 1978, and has spent the last several decades specializing in experimental high energy physics.

The discussion will be held in the Board/Aspen Room at 6:00 p.m.

This free event was made possible by a donation from the Dr. Thomas E. Berry Memorial Scholarship Fund, just one of dozens of scholarships offered by the LTCC Foundation that financially supports academic programs and student success at the college.
