South Tahoe and Whittell High softball and baseball teams headed to playoffs

Seasons are wrapping up for local high school baseball and softball teams, and that means playoffs. Both boys and girls baseball and softball teams from South Tahoe High and Whittell High are headed into Northern playoffs

The South Tahoe baseball team is traveling to the other side of the state for their first round match up against the #3 seed team from Elko. Their May 13 game at Spring Creek High School against Elko starts at 10:30 a.m. The winner of that game meets Fernley at 3:30 p.m. with the championship game on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Whittell Warriors are taking their West #2 seed playoff spot to Carlin for a first round match-up against Mineral County, the #1 East seed. Their first round game is Friday at 9:00 a.m. The winner of that game moves onto the winner's bracket at 4:30 p.m., also on Friday. The four teams in the playoff picture hope to be in the championship game on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

On the softball side, South Tahoe Warriors are traveled across the state for their first round playoff game which starts at 8:00 a.m. Thursday. The girls from STHS are the #4 seed in the tournament and will take on Elko in the first round at Spring Creek High School. The winner of that game moves on to the 1:00 p.m. game against Churchill County. On Friday, all teams play again, starting at 8:00 a.m. The championship game is on Saturday at either 10:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m., depending on the final win-loss records.

Whittell girls are the #1 seed in the Northern NIAA tournament. They continue their trip to State starting Friday with their first round game against Wells at noon. The winner of that game moves onto a 4 p.m. against the winner of the Eureka and Smith Valley game. Both teams that lose also play and the final two winners move onto the championship game on Saturday at noon. All games are at Carlin High School.
