Snow Bike Championships at Hard Rock Tahoe

The final round of the AMA National Championship Series is coming to Lake Tahoe on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Hard Rock Casino Resort in their back parking lot.
Gates open at 1:00 p.m., practice starts at 2:00 p.m. and the race starts at 3:00 p.m. The race will end before 7:00 p.m. The awards ceremony will be held in Vinyl at Hard Rock from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Viewing ticket prices are free for kids under 5, $10 for ages 6-12 and $15 for adults.
South Lake Tahoe man sentenced to 7 years in prison for DUI crash

Locally, the Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) is the region’s largest non-profit trail organization and has the primary responsibility for managing and maintaining about 200 miles of hiking, biking and equestrian trails in and around the Tahoe Basin in partnership with the US Forest Service (USFS) and NV State Parks.
Meyers Area Plan approved by TRPA, on to County Supervisors

Locals Tim and Kristi Cain moved into the space vacated by Verde and spent weeks creating the new restaurant and menu. They own "Freel Perk" next door so they were excited to offer cuisine that fits not only their active lifestyle, but features a large menu with tapas, 11 breakfast choices, fajitas, tacos, burritos, salads, veggie bowls, soups and much more.

SLT Parks & Recreation Commission opposes events on local fields
Submitted by paula on Sat, 02/24/2018 - 8:00amWith the March 6 South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting set to address the annual music festival SnowGlobe, the Parks & Recreation Commission held a special meeting to decide what their stance would be on the festival being held on the Community Playfields.
The new playfields have never had a soccer or football game played on them, but they are in need of a lot of repair after SnowGlobe unpacked and left after their Dec. 29-31 event.
Two Lake Tahoe locals featured on Women Who Dare

The Women Who Dare podcast, to be released on March 6, follows Gross on her five-month bike ride where she met inspirational women who had a story to tell. She spent the summer of 2017 riding 5,800 miles to meet and interview remarkable women.

South Lake Tahoe's Sierra Boulevard study released for public review

As part of the process, an The Initial Sturdy/Mitigated Negative Declaration (MND) is now up for review and public comment. Comments can be made until March 26, 2018.

Special City Council meeting to decide Kerry's fate; Meston outlines plans

The council will be meeting in closed session on Monday, February 12, 2018 to discuss the situation. Their agenda item, "PUBLIC EMPLOYEE DISCIPLINE/DISMISSAL/RELEASE Pursuant to Government Code Section 54957(b)" starts at 9:00 a.m.
That section of code allows special and closed session meetings to consider the appointment, employment, evaluation of performance, discipline, or dismissal of a public employee.

The Meyers and South Lake Tahoe community joined law enforcement in searching for the missing girls. As days turned into weeks, and then eventually years, parents searched for ways to teach their own children about safety and abduction.
SNC student's project brings new shed to Bijou Bike Park

The 23-year-old Sierra Nevada College student is majoring in sustainability with a focus on entrepreneurship. When he graduates in May he is committed to Tahoe Shed Company of South Lake Tahoe.
He has already hit the road running.
For Park's senior project he teamed up with Bret Hackett, owner of green builder Healthy Home Consultants and Tahoe Shed Company, to bring a new and secure shed to Bijou Bike Park.

Almost one year ago almost five million women, men and children gathered around the world to participate in the Women's March on Washington on the same day President Trump was being inaugurated.
They gathered to stand together in their protest of reproductive rights, equal pay, safety for women in the workplace and more. They stood against racism, sexism, sexual assault and harassment. They stood against Trump and his policies that were racist, anti-LGBT and anti-women.

On a typical holiday weekend, the Tahoe Basin turns into a recreation thoroughfare as tens of thousands of day and overnight visitors who sustain our local economy drive up from the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento, and Reno.
NDOT completes second season of SR 28 shared use path construction

The entire project is anticipated to complete in late 2018 or early 2019, depending on weather.

Magical display of themed Christmas trees at South Lake Tahoe holiday event
Submitted by paula on Thu, 11/30/2017 - 11:23pmThe grand hall at MontBleu Casino Resort has been turned into a holiday paradise, a winter wonderland with the main attraction being the specialty Christmas trees.
On Thursday, local celebrities and media strolled by each of the designer trees, selecting those that won top honors of Most Elegant, Best Theme, Most Creative and Best of Show.
The excellent work on each made it almost impossible to come up with a winner, but four were chosen after much deliberation. Each tree will be paired with a special prize package during a live auction at Saturday's Gala.

Sierra Boulevard Complete Streets project closer to summer 2018 construction

Funded by grants, the .6 mile stretch of Sierra Boulevard starting at Highway 50 will have Class 1 and Class 2 bike lanes, parallel parking spots, reduced lane size, lighted sidewalks, underground utilities, landscaping, crosswalks and water quality improvements.

November 4, 2017 - 6:00pm The community is invited to celebrate another great year of mountain biking and trail building with the Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association (TAMBA) at their Fall Party on Saturday, November 4 at the Heavenly California Main Lodge.
As we transition to winter they will have the premier showing of MSP Film's Drop Everything during the evening which also features a pasta dinner, drinks, raffle prizes and swag. They will also be holding a membership drive.
The party starts at 6:00 p.m. with the film showing around 7:00 p.m.

Highway 50 roadwork in South Lake Tahoe extended through November
Submitted by paula on Tue, 10/31/2017 - 8:24amConstruction on U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe will be extended through the end of November, weather permitting. The work remaining includes the installation of new traffic signals at Tahoe Keys Boulevard and 3rd Street.
Expect lane closures and extra traffic on U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe from the "Y" to Winnemucca Avenue during these final stages.
The project is a three-year one and includes water quality improvements, a new stop light at Lodi, timed traffic lights from the Y to Trout creek, bike lanes, bus pull outs, sidewalks and retaining walls.
New gas tax starts November 1 in California; Prices up 12 cents/gallon
Submitted by paula on Sun, 10/29/2017 - 5:50pmHigher fuel taxes are set to start November 1, 2017, raising the base gasoline excise tax from 18 cents to 30 cents per gallon. Senate Bill 1 was signed into law by California Jerry Brown and contains other increases that will cover the state's transportation needs for the next ten years with an extra $52 billion in revenue.
Other funds are coming from a new transportation improvement fee based on vehicle value, and paying off past transportation loans, Caltrans savings, and new charges on diesel fuel and zero-emission vehicles.

This includes roads, bridges, campgrounds, waterlines, bathrooms, and other visitor services.

A favored site for the women’s race, South Lake Tahoe will once again host the men for the Stage 6 finish and welcome back the women for the fourth year in a row on May 18. 2018.
AEG, the world’s leading sports and live entertainment company, made the announcement Thursday.
