SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say another three residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since yesterday. Of those, one is in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, one in Diamond Springs/El Dorado, and one in the Lake Tahoe Region.

The new cases: 1 are under the age of 18, 1 aged 18-49, and 1 aged 50-64.

Another 187 people were tested for the coronavirus and 184 negative tests results were received.

There have been another six assumed recoveries with 154 assumed active cases.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help with identifying vehicle burglary suspects who broke into multiple vehicles along Mt. Rose Highway at Sheep Flat.

The new cases are six under the age of 18, 12 aged 18-49, and seven aged 50-64, and two aged 65 or older.

This is the largest number of cases for a three-day period since the pandemic started.

Of these new cases, six are under the age of 18, 20 are in the 18-49 age group, four are aged 50-64 and one aged 65 or older.

V & T Railway Polar Express canceled, replaced with Santa's Drive-Thru Village

As a result of COVID-19, the V&T Railway Commission has announced that fan favorite, Polar Express, has been canceled for the 2020 season. In its place, the railway will host Santa’s Drive-Thru Village, a socially distanced holiday event, December 11 through 13 and December 18 through 24.

Fire Weather Advisory issued for Lake Tahoe Thursday-Friday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Fire Weather Watch to be in effect for Lake Tahoe and Western Nevada for Thursday at 11:00 a.m. through Friday at 8:00 p.m.

Winds will be from the southwest on Thursday, shifting to west on Friday. Sustained winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph possible for both days. Strongest gusts Thursday could be US Highway 50 north and on Friday could be US Highway 50 south. Winds in valleys should weaken late Thursday evening, while Sierra ridges continue to gust in the 70-90 mph range overnight.

Chris Sneed: The man behind the 9-11 flag flying over US50

Those of us who were alive remember where they were and what they were doing when they saw or heard of the first planes fly into the towers in New York City on September 11, 2001.

Chris Sneed was working in Incline Village on a pipe replacement project for Granite Construction on Lakeshore Boulevard on 9-11-01. He needed a part and ran into Spitsen Lumber. He was in line and saw the store's 12" television showing a plane hit the first tower, and then the second tower.

Daily and special railbike tours featured through fall on V&T Railroad

Many have experienced the trip aboard a restored 1914 Pullman coach led by a 1916 Baldwin 2-8-0 steam locomotive from Carson City to Virginia City, or the annual Polar Express train rides, but with COVID-19 closures these experiences have not been available for 2020.

Now people can pedal their way through history aboard a Freedom Railbike along the historic Virginia & Truckee (V&T) train route into the Carson River Canyon along an exciting, curved, and gradual two percent grade track system to the historic Eureka Mill rest area.

There are an assumed nine more recoveries, bringing that total to 808.

No change to the hospitalization numbers with one hospitalized in the ICU. There is one suspected case in the hospital. There have been two deaths to date of county residents.

South Lake Tahoe artist selected for design of TRPA 50th anniversary coin

The first peak of a new Lake Tahoe commemorative coin was unveiled during Tuesday's virtual Lake Tahoe Summit. The coin is in honor of the 50th anniversary of the bi-state Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) and is being minted in the historic U.S. Mint at Carson City's Nevada State Museum.

The work of South Lake Tahoe artist Eleanor BonBon is featured on the coin. It was accepted for the coin after she responded to a Request for Proposal which included examples of her sketching process, all while conceptualizing TRPA’s core values into a visual language.

Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe awards 19 scholarships

Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe (SISLT) awarded scholarships to a group of local students from South Tahoe High, George Whittell High, the Lake Tahoe Basin Fire Academy and Lake Tahoe Community College. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health offiicals announced another eight positive cases of COVID-19 today, four in the Lake Tahoe region, three in El Dorado Hills and one in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue. Another 197 tests were given, 189 negative test results were returned and there are 15 new assumed recoveries.

Tens of thousands of residents are evacuated from their homes in Napa, Sonoma, Santa Cruz, Salinas, Grass Valley, Nevada City and other cities in the state. Most of the fires were started by a massive lightning storm over Northern California Sunday where over 10,800 lightning strikes were observed.
