EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - One more person has recovered from COVID-19 in El Dorado County, bringing the total number of cases to four. There were no new cases on Wednesday, with 44 total positive tests in the county. There were 50 more tests for the virus Wednesday, with 2,050 total tests issued with 2,006 negative or pending results.

Fifteen in the Lake Tahoe region of the county have tested positive. This region includes South Lake Tahoe, Meyers, Kyburz, and Tahoma.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - One person in El Dorado County has tested positive for COVID-19 since Monday. The new case is a male from South County aged 50-64, bringing the total testing positive in the county to 44. He was the first South County resident to test positive.

The County tested 60 more people Tuesday, bringing the total of residents being tested to 2000.

One more person has recovered and there are five active cases.

Fifteen in the Lake Tahoe region of the county have tested positive. This region includes South Lake Tahoe, Meyers, Kyburz, and Tahoma.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Since Friday, one new person has tested positive for COVID-19, this time a Lake Tahoe area man in the 18-49 age group, bringing the total of people who have tested positive in El Dorado County to 43. Two hundred additional tests have been issued in El Dorado County.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County Board of County Commissioners will be conducting a 1:00 p.m. special meeting on April 29, 2020, to discuss recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and economic impacts to local businesses in Douglas County. The county is actively seeking public comment from residents in regard to economic impacts on local business in Douglas County.

152nd Airlift Wing to fly over Lake Tahoe/Northern Nevada hospitals to recognize their COVID-19 battles

The Nevada Air Guard High Rollers will be honoring the men and women in healthcare who are battling COVID-19 by doing a flyover of Lake Tahoe and Northern Nevada area hospitals with a C-130 on Tuesday, April 28, 2020.

152nd Airlift Wing will start from its base in Reno and pass over Renown South Medical Center at noon, and for an hour pass over the following hospitals.

New area county COVID-19 cases: Two in El Dorado, 19 in Washoe, 1 in Douglas

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Two more people tested positive for COVID-19 in El Dorado County on Friday. Both of the new cases are women in the 50-64 age group. One is from El Dorado Hills and the other from the Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue area. There have also been two recoveries.

Since Thursday, 40 more tests have been administered. So far, 1,1740 tests for the virus have been given with 1,698 coming back as negative or results are still outstanding.

El Dorado County COVID-19: One new confirmed case in Lake Tahoe region

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - One Lake Tahoe area resident has tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the area's total up to 14 and the El Dorado County total up to 40.

Since Wednesday, 45 new tests for the virus have been administered, bringing the total tested to 1,700.

One more person has recovered and to date, 35 people have recovered.

The new case is a male in the 18-49 age group from the Lake Tahoe region. The Lake Tahoe region of the County includes South Lake Tahoe, Meyers, Kyburz, and Tahoma.

Quad Counties to offer asymptomatic community based COVID-19 testing

Approximately 1,800 residents in the Quad-County region who do not have any of the COVID-19 symptoms will be able to be tested for the virus starting May 4. The limited number of tests will be given by appointment only and those can be made starting Monday, April 27. About 150,000 people live in the Quad-County region so just over one-percent of residents without symptoms can get tested.

No new confirmed COVID-19 cases in El Dorado County; Incline Village now at 18

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - There were no new cases of COVID-19 in El Dorado County today, leaving the total at 39. The statistics also remained the same for recoveries (34). 1,655 people have been tested, 35 additional people and 1,616 tests have been returned as negative or results are pending.

The Lake Tahoe region of the County (Kyburz to South Lake Tahoe, Meyers to Tahoma) has 13 cases.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County is reporting one new case of COVID-19. A woman in the 50-64-year-old age group from El Dorado Hills tested positive on Tuesday, April 21.

This brings the total number of cases in El Dorado County to 39. Three more people have recovered from the virus, bringing that total to 34. Thirty more people were tested for coronavirus today. To date, 1,620 people have been tested with 1,581 negative or pending.

The Lake Tahoe region of the County (Kyburz to South Lake Tahoe, Meyers to Tahoma) has 13 cases.

Soroptimist of Tahoe Sierra's virtual Elegant Evening a success

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Many nonprofits have had to cancel their fundraisers due to the coronavirus, but the ladies of the Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra (SITS) club in South Lake Tahoe weren't going to let the virus stop them.

Their 31t annual Elegant Evening was slated to be held at Harrah's Tahoe on April 18 with a sit-down dinner, live music, and dancing, raffle, and auction. The venue closed and restrictions on meeting in groups of over 10 people were created, so what do you do with an event that brings together 500 community members?

Move it online, of course.

Two new cases of COVID-19 in Lake Tahoe region of El Dorado County

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - There have been two new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in El Dorado County, both in the Lake Tahoe region which includes Meyers and South Lake Tahoe.

One male, one female in the 18-49-year-old range were confirmed over the weekend. Their ages dropped the median age of positive cases from the age of 49 to 47.

This brings the total positive tests in the county to 38.

The county reports 130 new tests administered, and no new recoveries. To date, 1,590 tests have been administered with 1,552 coming back as negative or are pending.

El Dorado County COVID-19: One new case; Recoveries up to 31

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - There was one new reported case of COVID-19 in El Dorado County Friday, and it was the first one in Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz area. This case is a man 65 or over.

On the positive side of things, two more people have recovered. There have been 36 reported cases with 31 recoveries.

Lake Tahoe area COVID-19 updates: Two new cases in El Dorado County

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There have been two new cases of COVID-19 in El Dorado County since Friday, one in each the South Lake Tahoe area and El Dorado Hills. These new figures bring a total of 34 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county, ten of those on the East Slope (including South Lake Tahoe and Meyers).

On April 3, the South Lake Tahoe region had nine confirmed cases with one being adding and dropped due to error over a week ago.

El Dorado County reports 23 recoveries to date and 1,250 tests taken.

El Dorado County COVID-19: Two new cases in El Dorado Hills; 16 recoveries

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The El Dorado County Department of Health and Human Services is reporting two new positive cases of COVID-19 in the area, both in El Dorado Hills. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 32.

The County is also reporting confirmed cases now on their daily report. There have been 16 residents who have recovered from COVID-19, to date.

According to the report, 1,125 tests have been made on residents, with 1,093 of them negative or still outstanding.

South Lake Tahoe has 9 confirmed cases of the virus.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There were four new cases of COVID-19 in El Dorado County Tuesday, three in El Dorado Hills and one in Placerville. The total went from 25 to 28 though due to one case in the South Lake Tahoe region dropping off.

Originally one person identified as a Tahoe-area resident on Monday actually was not and lives elsewhere.

There are currently 28 confirmed cases in the county:

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There has been one more person who tested positive for COVID-19 in the South Lake Tahoe area over the weekend, bringing the total to 10. In El Dorado County there are now 25 positive cases.

The South Lake Tahoe region includes Meyers, South Lake Tahoe, to north of Meeks Bay.

Alpine County

COVID-19 cases in the South Lake Tahoe area up to 9, El Dorado County at 22

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two more positive tests for COVID-19 were received in the South Lake Tahoe region of El Dorado County, and one more in El Dorado Hills, bringing the county total up to 22.

Two of the new cases were community-acquired and one is under investigation.

The South Lake Tahoe region of the county runs from Tahoma to Meyers and includes the city of South Lake Tahoe.

To date, 849 have been tested for the virus in El Dorado County with 683 coming back negative and the results on about 144 are still pending.

Seven confirmed cases of COVID-19 in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County has created a new dashboard for COVID-19 cases and it shows South Lake Tahoe leads all areas with confirmed cases.

There are 7 confirmed cases in the South Lake Tahoe region, 3 in Placerville, 4 in El Dorado Hills with the County's other 5 cases spread around the west slope.

797 people have been tested with 648 of those coming back negative for the virus. 130 are still pending.

18 cases of COVID-19 now in EL Dorado County; 6 in Douglas County

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - There have been three more positive COVID-19 cases in El Dorado County, bringing the total of confirmed cases to 18 as of 4:00 p.m. March 31.

County officials said the virus has been identified on the West Slope and in South Lake Tahoe, but the number of each case in each area is not known.

Carson City Health and Human Services on Tuesday morning reported one new positive case of COVID-19 in the Quad County region: Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties. This brings the total number of cases in the Quad-County region to 12.

18 more confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Washoe County; One new case in Douglas County

The Washoe County Health District is reporting that two more Washoe County residents have recovered from COVID-19 and have been released from self-isolation, increasing the count to seven recoveries.

In addition, the Health District is reporting 18 additional positive cases of COVID-19 in Washoe County, moving the total number of cases to 93 and the active case count to 86. The new numbers include a Washoe County Sheriff's deputy that was assigned to the jail.

Nine confirmed cases of COVID-19 in El Dorado County

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The El Dorado County Public Health Department has announced there are now nine confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of 4:00 p.m. Thursday, March 26. The County is not identifying the communities where these cases are.

This brings the total number of positive cases in the State of California to 4,040. There have been 82 deaths in the state.

Of those 3,666, 886 are community-acquired cases; 2,120 were acquired through person-to-person transmission, travel (including cruise ship passengers), repatriation, or under investigation. This includes 42 health care workers.

America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride in Lake Tahoe rescheduled

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Another event casualty due to the coronavirus is the 29th annual America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride. Originally set for Sunday, June 7, it has been rescheduled to combine with the 18th annual Tour de Tahoe, set for Sunday, September 13, 2020. This due to the uncertainty of current and changing CDC coronavirus COVID-19 restrictions and mandates by national, state and county health agencies.

Chain controls in place on Lake Tahoe area roads

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is a Winter Weather Advisory in place until 10:00 a.m. Wednesday. Expect snow to fall in Lake Tahoe for another day as the latest in a series of small storms passes through.

For Wednesday: Snow likely before 11:00 a.m., then snow showers after 11:00 a.m. Some thunder is also possible. High near 35. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Washoe County reports 19 new cases of COVID-19; Douglas 1 and no new cases in El Dorado County

On Monday, the Washoe County Health District reported 19 additional cases of COVID-19 in that county, moving the total number of cases to 44.

Due to the influx of cases, the Health District will not provide specific details or any other information due to medical information and privacy requirements.

The additional 19 confirmed cases were from 2-plus days of testing due to the increased number of tests being submitted to the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory from throughout the region and state.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office: Gardnerville man fatally shot was attempting a home invasion

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office has identified a 36-year-old Gardnerville man who died Saturday from apparent gunshot wounds.

Joshua McCarthy, 36, was reportedly involved in a physical confrontation with a homeowner in the 1400 block of Bumblebee Drive while attempting a home invasion, during which the homeowner shot McCarthy, according to a Douglas County Sheriff's Office news release.

McCarthy was not known to the homeowner.

Douglas County leaders update on COVID-19 response and community support

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - In response to COVID-19, Douglas County officials continue to work closely with Carson City Health and Human Services and a regional Emergency Operations Center (EOC) that has been set up in Carson City to ensure compliance with the Governor’s directive while working in partnership to keep Douglas County residents safe.

Another earthquake east of Lake Tahoe - This time 3.5 magnitude

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There was another earthquake Saturday night in the Carson Valley in the same location as Friday's magnitude 4.5.

On Saturday at 7:53 p.m., an earthquake measured 3.51 and is in the area 4.1 mi SSE of Carson_City near Indian Hills. It was 9.80 km below the surface.

This earthquake is one in a series of over 80 aftershocks since Friday night. Most were very small and under magnitude 2.1 before Saturday.

4.5 earthquake centered just east of Lake Tahoe in Indian Hills

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE Update 7:20 p.m. 3/20/20 - The University of Nevada Reno Seismological Lab has updated the magnitude of tonight's earthquake to 4.5. It centered near Lake Tahoe in Indian Hills, Nevada.

Since the initial earthquake, there have been four aftershocks at 2.0, 1.6, 1.6, 1.5 and more are expected.

The 4.5 was 4.3 mi SSE of Carson_City at a depth of 8.38 km.

These follow a series of small earthquakes in the same area at the beginning of the week.

Three new COVID-19 cases in Douglas and Washoe Counties - El Dorado County still at zero

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There are still no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in South Lake Tahoe and the rest of El Dorado County, as of 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 18.

Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS) is reporting a second positive case of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. This is the second case reported in the Quad County region: Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties.

Day-long traffic jam over Echo Summit as vehicles leave Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Sunday has been one big traffic jam for travelers trying to head west over Echo Summit. And as it the normal case, when traffic backs up the mapping apps direct drivers to side residential roads, many of which were unplowed and hard to navigate.

As of 7:30 p.m., traffic is still very heavy in Meyers and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is currently working on two accidents, one west of Sierra-at-Tahoe Road and the other east of Strawberry.

Heavy snow to continue through Monday; Avalanche warnings, Road closure update

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The forecast snow is here, with 2-3 feet reported at the upper elevations. The snow is affecting lower elevations as well, with chain controls starting to the west at Apple Hill.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The threat of the coronavirus COVID-19 has prompted more events and activities to be postponed or canceled in the South Lake Tahoe area. At this time there are no confirmed cases in El Dorado, Douglas, or Carson City counties.

Area agencies planning and using precaution in case COVID-19 hits South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Over 34 million Americans have caught the flu this year with over 20,000 deaths recorded, but its the coronavirus COVID-19 that is getting all the headlines.

There are no current reported cases of COVID-19 in South Lake Tahoe/El Dorado County, Alpine County or Douglas County, but local agencies want to be prepared, just in case people come down with the virus.

Firewood cutting permits available in Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest April 1

Dead and downed firewood cutting permits will be available starting April 1, on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s Carson Ranger District. Forest officials stress that it is extremely important for firewood cutters to pay special attention to the terms and conditions of their permit.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It has been a while since Lake Tahoe has experienced measurable snowfall. The promised winter weather arrived overnight, with 8" of snow reported at the South Shore of Lake Tahoe by Sunday morning. Area ski resorts are reporting 4"-12" and Reno and the Carson Valley, due to some lake-effect snow, had 5"-7".

Even as the storm exits, expect wind as a new Lake Wind Advisory has been issued from noon on Sunday to 4:00 a.m. Monday.

John Russell Rice, Jr. ~ 1957 - 2020

John Russell Rice Jr. died peacefully at Carson Tahoe Medical Center in Carson City, Nevada on February 23, 2020, from complications of a recently diagnosed medical condition, surrounded by family. He was 62.

John is preceded in death by his parents: father John Russell Rice Sr. of Fremont, Calif.; mother Elizabeth LaVerne Rice-Killion of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; and his grandson Mason Allen Geist of Gardnerville, NV.

Fortunate Strangers in Concert

Fortunate Strangers, a West Coast band featuring Scottish and Irish songs, will be performing at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City on February 15 at 7:00 p.m.

The band combines the experience of three performers from the San Francisco Bay Area and the High Sierra. Celia Ramsay,’s haunting voice and extensive experience in Scottish folk music, combined with Joe and Kathy Bly's long history in Irish music, blend to create a Celtic musical experience that is both expansive and focused. True to the Celtic tradition, their songs range from lush and full to haunting and angular.
