Lake Tahoe Community College is holding a visioning session on Saturday, June 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the LTCC Board Room next to the Library. The community is invited to contribute to a conversation about the future of the College as we move toward 2020.

Changes in state regulations are forcing LTCC to change what we do and who we serve. These changes have created challenges that must be overcome if LTCC is to continue serving the communities of Lake Tahoe.

After an action-packed winter season at Lake Tahoe, Heavenly Mountain Resort is switching gears and opening with summer activities this Memorial Day weekend May 25-27. Heavenly will run the Heavenly Gondola for sightseeing, dining, family activities and hiking. Operating times will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Moms of all ages are invited to enjoy a free morning of education, inspiration and relaxation on Saturday, May 4 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the “Commons Area” at Lake Tahoe Community College (1 College Drive, South Lake Tahoe).

“This is the third annual “Mom’s Morning Out” and its growing in size each-year,” Leanne Wagoner, Barton Health, Community Outreach Coordinator said. “Together, with the Tahoe Daily Tribune and Lake Tahoe Community College, Barton has created a day celebrating all moms in our community.”

Milky Way Incorporated dba The Coyote Grill has set Friday, January 25th for its long-awaited ‘Grand Re-Opening’ said Coyote Grill owner, Leland Faegre whose expansion has more than doubled the size of its current business model.

The Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation will continue its 13th Lake Tahoe Kinder Kup Race Series at Heavenly Mountain Resort on Feb. 10. Open to all skiers age six and under and snowboarders age eight and under, the Kinder Kup series is designed to introduce young athletes to competition in a friendly environment.

Lifts began turning at Heavenly Mountain Resort at 9 a.m. Wednesday, signaling the return of winter to Lake Tahoe and the region's ski and snowboard destination. Early-season storms combined with the West Coast’s largest snowmaking system have given Heavenly the ability to stage its earliest opening since 2004-05. All access to the mountain at this time is through the Heavenly Gondola and Tamarack Express.

Ernie's Coffee Shop will hold a fundraising dinner on Friday, Nov. 9 from 5-8 pm for Chris Alper. Chris, a 33 year South Lake Tahoe local, was recently diagnosed with a recurrence of breast cancer. Two surgeries last month have left her in need of assistance with medical bills and living expenses during her recuperation and treatment. While current American Heart Association heart failure prevention guidelines warn against habitual coffee consumption, some studies propose a protective benefit, and still others find no association at all. Amidst this conflicting information, research from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center attempts to shift the conversation from a definitive yes or no, to a question of how much.

Imagine the scenic beauty of Lake Tahoe with its crystal clear blue waters surrounded by towering majestic snow capped peaks. Imagine being able to ride a bicycle around its 72-mile shoreline or a 100-mile century ride. On Sunday more than, 3,300-plus bicycling enthusiasts from all over the country will participate in the 21st annual America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride around Lake Tahoe.

A Memorial Day service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Happy Homestead Cemetery, 1261 Johnson Blvd., in South Lake Tahoe. The service will recognize veterans past and present and will be followed by cake and coffee at American Legion Post 795, 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

A ride on the Heavenly Gondola transports Lake Tahoe sightseers to the Mid-Station Observation Deck, a 14,000 square-foot platform nestled among massive granite boulders nearly 3,000 feet above the lake. Offering unparalleled views of the Desolation Wilderness, Carson Valley and, of course, the sparkling waters of Lake Tahoe, the Observation Deck also features Café Blue, an outdoor dining area serving coffee, beer, cold beverages, hot chocolate and snacks.

Sunday, May 20 was a memorable day for two of our friends. The two friends are Stephanie Parker (our neighbor) and her brother George, who was visiting our area from Phoenix, Ariz.
Stephanie is fairly new to Carson City and to our neighborhood, having moved here from Las Vegas, where she lived and worked for many years.
When I first discovered that George would be visiting and that he is an ardent fisherman, I asked Stephanie (who also fishes) if the two of them would like to try Mackinaw (Lake) Trout fishing at Lake Tahoe.
Without hesitation, she said, “You bet. Yes, we would!”
