South Lake Tahoe jail inmates enrolled in culinary program win at county fair
Submitted by Editor on Fri, 07/05/2013 - 4:24pmIn 2007 the El Dorado Sheriff’s Department formed a partnership with the Lake Tahoe Community College to expand the College’s existing culinary arts program to the Sheriff’s Tahoe jail.
Every year the inmates test their quality by entering the El Dorado County Fair in the Baking and Fiery Fair categories. Since 2007 the inmates have amassed over 70 first, second, and third place ribbons. This year was no exception. The inmates in the culinary arts program earned a total of 31 ribbons: 12 First Place, 11 Second Place, and 6 Third Place ribbons.
LTCC Needs Community Input to Develop New Vision

Lake Tahoe Community College is holding a visioning session on Saturday, June 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the LTCC Board Room next to the Library. The community is invited to contribute to a conversation about the future of the College as we move toward 2020.
Changes in state regulations are forcing LTCC to change what we do and who we serve. These changes have created challenges that must be overcome if LTCC is to continue serving the communities of Lake Tahoe.

Ice fishing is a unique sport that requires a whole different set of fishing techniques, gear and clothing, as opposed to lazy fishing on a warm, drowsy day in the middle of the summer. Heavenly at Lake Tahoe celebrates with early opening

Early-season storms combined with the West Coast’s largest snowmaking system have given Heavenly the ability to stage its earliest opening since 2004-05. All access to the mountain at this time is through the Heavenly Gondola and Tamarack Express.

Ernie's Coffee Shop will hold a fundraising dinner on Friday, Nov. 9 from 5-8 pm for Chris Alper. Chris, a 33 year South Lake Tahoe local, was recently diagnosed with a recurrence of breast cancer. Two surgeries last month have left her in need of assistance with medical bills and living expenses during her recuperation and treatment. Submitted by Editor on Thu, 05/24/2012 - 12:59pmServices for legendary radio commentator Travus T. Hipp will be held this Saturday, May 26, in Silver City. Hipp died early Friday morning, May 18, at his Silver City home. He was 75, as old as the Golden Gate Bridge in his beloved San Francisco.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 26, in Silver City. Gathering, gnoshing and remembering will begin at the Silver City Community Center, 385 High Street, at 10:00 a.m. Food and refreshments will be provided. Those who wish may bring more.

Submitted by Don Quilici on Wed, 05/23/2012 - 12:33amSunday, May 20 was a memorable day for two of our friends. The two friends are Stephanie Parker (our neighbor) and her brother George, who was visiting our area from Phoenix, Ariz.
Stephanie is fairly new to Carson City and to our neighborhood, having moved here from Las Vegas, where she lived and worked for many years.
When I first discovered that George would be visiting and that he is an ardent fisherman, I asked Stephanie (who also fishes) if the two of them would like to try Mackinaw (Lake) Trout fishing at Lake Tahoe.
Without hesitation, she said, “You bet. Yes, we would!”

Currently occupied by ‘Paradise Nails and Spa,’ Suite 102 is 1684 square feet and will allow the Coyote Grill to begin its long anticipated expansion that will include entertainment, gaming, pizza and varietal coffees and espressos.
