The community has had an opportunity all summer to meet with the South Lake Tahoe Police Chief, Lieutenants and Sergeants this summer during their "Coffee With a Cop" series which is held ever Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Starbucks near Stateline.
These meetings give locals and visitors the chance to meet the officers and help shape our policing efforts in South Lake Tahoe. People are encouraged to stop by and share what’s going on in your neighborhood, what you are concerned about, and of course they’re happy to hear good news as well.

June Joplin, the beloved owner of Comma Coffee in Carson City is a talented jazz vocalist who is bringing her show, Me and Bobby McGee, to the Valhalla Art, Music and Theatre Festival in South Lake Tahoe on July 15.
The show will be in the historic 1920's boat house turned theater located at the Tallac Historic Site.

Weekly farmers markets in South Lake Tahoe

The Tuesday market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is operated by El Dorado County Farmers' Markets and is held at the American Legion located at 2732 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

The American Legion is presenting a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 25 at 11:00 a.m. It will be held at the Happy Homestead Cemetery located at 1261 Johnson Blvd in South Lake Tahoe.
Flags were placed on all grave sites of veterans at the cemetery by the South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge and the American Legion.
There will be cake and coffee offered following the ceremony.

On March 29, 2015, Fresno Fire Captain Pete Dern fell through the roof of a burning home, resulting in severe burns over 70% of his body. In the days since the accident, firefighters and other concerned people from around the country have been sending both prayers and money to the family.
The outpouring of support is also evident on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe. On Sunday, April 19, the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District and The Local 2441 are putting on a pancake breakfast to raise money for the mounting expenses for Dern and his family.

Mom’s Morning Out was started by Barton Health as a health and wellness program for new moms. The program has grown and last year more than 200 women, not just moms, participated in the event.

But the main attraction, then as now, was the lake itself, its shore dotted with mom-and-pop motels, vacation cottages and souvenir shops. When the original Red Hut opened here in 1959, South Lake Tahoe was becoming popular but the tourism infrastructure was nascent.

Back in April, the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) was awarded over $150,000 to look into providing safer, off highway opportunities around South Tahoe Middle School (STMS). The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) awarded the grant as part of their $500,000 "On Our Way" program grants.

The resort just celebrated a year of independence in April 2014 and is putting into place a management structure that throws away the corporate mold, and invests in the resort’s front line -- its staff.

Update: Over 500,000 acres burned in the West
Submitted by paula on Sat, 08/02/2014 - 11:31pm8/5/14 9:15 a.m. update: Rains in Northern California on Monday did little to penetrate the canopy of the raging fires according to Bald Fire Inicident Command, but the fire did burn less actively. As of Tuesday morning, the lightening caused fire has consumed 39,850 acres and is 30% contained. Nearly 1,000 fire fighters are on the fire.
The other large fire near the town of Burney, the Eiler Fire, is now 20% contained and it has burned 28,600 acres. The estimate date for full containment is August 20th and for the Bald Fire, August 17th.

Rami and Patricia Suda Merrikh have opened Wildman's 50's Drive-In at the Y in South Lake Tahoe. While not the coffee house as before, they prepare a wide variety of food on their menu.
We stopped in to see what was up in the mid-century circa establishment. Rami was at the grill and Patricia was taking care of the front counter.

The building was torn down last week to make way for the future home of SUP Tahoe and South Shore Bikes.

Lake Tahoe Skiers Enjoying Fresh Powder

The snow is expected to continue falling overnight and into Friday, setting resort guests up for a weekend of snow-filled fun.

Join novice and expert birders alike for the South Lake Tahoe Christmas Bird Count (CBC), Dec. 14, sponsored by the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS). The Christmas Bird Count, begun in 1900, is widely regarded as the largest and oldest citizen science project in the world.
The CBC makes a valuable contribution to conservation, collecting critical data on bird population trends and building a database. The Audubon Society and other organizations use the CBC database to assess the health of bird populations — and to help guide conservation action.

Lake Tahoe Community College invites community members, college employees, and students to attend a 2020 Vision session on Friday, September 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the college's Board/Aspen Room.
Now in their 39th year, LTCC is taking steps in determining what direction they should head in the future when taking declining enrollment, budget concerns, and other issues into consideration.
Patriot Day Memorial Ceremony

The American Legion Post 795 of South Lake Tahoe will host a memorial ceremony in honor of Patriot Day on 9/11/13.
The ceremony will begin at 5 pm at the legion at 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd. Snacks and coffee will be served.
