What's going on this weekend in South Lake Tahoe:

Join Sierra Strings of Tahoe for a morning of music, ushering in winter and the holiday season on December 3, 2016 at 11:00 a.m This locally celebrated group will enchant you with a variety of songs. Free and open to all ages, light refreshments provided. At the South Lake Tahoe library.

Zawadisha's annual Holiday Bazaar returns this holiday season on Saturday, December 3 at the Blue Angel Cafe in South Lake Tahoe from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Lake Tahoe area supporters of those protesting the pipeline in Standing Rock, ND will be holding a benefit concert at the Tahoe Biltmore on the North Shore on Saturday, December 3 starting at 1:00 p.m.

The family friendly event will feature musicians along with members of local Native American tribes. Also on tap is a arts and crafts area with face painting, raffle and silent auction. Tickets are $20 for adults (12 and under are free) and available by clicking HERE.

Kids 4-12 have their own party to kick off 2017! The Kid's Night Out New Year's Eve Bash features a special dinner; kid-friendly games; crafts; New Year's Eve party goodies; a kid-friendly DJ; and a dessert station from 6:00 pm - 1:00 am in Alpine Ballroom. Celebratory balloon drop is at 9:00 pm and a late night movie begin at 11:00 pm.

The 41st Annual Antique and Classic Boat Society's International Boat Show is being held Friday and Saturday, September 23/24from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Sierra Boat Company, Carnelian Bay, Calif. The show only comes to Tahoe every ten years.

Young visitors to the Lake Tahoe History Museum have been enjoying old-fashioned games and crafts when stopping ball all summer, now they can enjoy them during the new three-hour long History Club adventure on Wednesday, August 17.

Visitors and locals are invited to join in on the club's activities which have been designed for children to experience activities from the past, learn a new skill, play a game, and use their imagination.

Due to limited class size, reservations are required. The cost is $20 per child.

Pope House Tour at the Tallac Historic Site - The Pope House Tour is the perfect way to see how the rich and famous lived while at Lake Tahoe, from the separate kitchen to the elegantly restored formal dining room. What started as a small group with a vision of empowering high-risk young girls in the South Lake Tahoe community has expanded into a much sought after program serving 124 girls, and growing every year.

Tahoe Youth & Family Services started “The Girl’s Project” in 2010 to partner with girls and help them become more confident and influential women later in life. The Girl’s Project has now expanded to Tahoe Valley Elementary, Sierra House Elementary, Bijou Elementary and South Tahoe Middle School.

The weather is starting to clear and temperatures are warming up, just in time for the Memorial Day weekend. Lake Tahoe Summer Kick Off Car and Bike Show at the Heavenly Village

South Lake Tahoe will celebrate Earth Day with a full day of education, live music, arts and crafts and with local vendors and food at Bijou Community Park on Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Recognize and celebrate our region’s unique beauty while being educated about local environmental issues. The public is invited to the free event where they will learn about ways to counteract global climate change through recycling and composting, alternative energy, water conservation, sustainability, and reducing our ecological footprint.

A South Lake Tahoe couple has taken over the ownership at Tahoe Tot Spot, a place where the younger set can enjoy activities, interactions with other kids, crafts and more.

Julie Pardysz was relocating to Colorado and had the business up for sale. The Tot Spot was on the verge of having to close as no buyers were coming forward. At the last minute, Jen and Chris Bloch made an offer to keep the doors open.

The annual Barton Foundation Festival of Trees and Lights opened Wednesday at MontBleu with tree judging and the Senior Stroll.

If you've been to the Town of Genoa you know how challenging it can be to access the internet and check your email due to spotty, at best, reception. This will be a thing of the past as the town just received $20,000 from the Douglas County Commissions on August 6 to fund their Main Street Wi-Fi Project.

The public is invited to the 16th annual Children's Environmental Science Day presented by the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center on Sunday, August 2 at Commons Beach in Tahoe City. The event will begin at 12:30 p.m. and will continue until 3:30 p.m., with a free Mumbo Gumbo concert at 4:00 p.m.

The South Lake Tahoe City Council narrowly approved a new temporary craft show ordinance and increased fee schedule during their meeting on Tuesday.

"Seems like overkill," said Councilwoman JoAnn Conner in her vote against the ordinance. "Its a tremendous amount of work for anyone who wants to come in and do an event and its a tremendous amount of work for staff."

Conner was speaking of the new ordinance which changes the rules for the eight temporary craft shows held annually in the city each year. She and Tom Davis were the two dissenting votes.

Carson Valley Quilt Guild will demonstrate a Bed Turning in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, July 18, at 10:00 am.

A Bed Turning is an opportunity to share the art and stories of heritage quilts. In this program, members of the guild will display a collection of quilts, share the story of each quilt and discuss the history of quilting.

The presentation is part of the park’s Western Arts & Crafts Series and is sponsored by Bently Ranch, SoaringNV, The Record-Courier and the Frances C. and William P. Smallwood Foundation.

Professional Bullwhip Instructor Doc Durden will share his talent in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, June 27, at 10:00 am. The term "bullwhip" is unique to the cowboys and buckaroos of the old West In the latter half of the 20th century, attempts to preserve traditional crafts, along with a resurgence of interest in Western performance arts led to an increased interest in whip cracking as a hobby, performance art and competitive sport.Durden will demonstrate the use of a 6’, 8’ and two 10’ whips in both ability and marksmanship.

Kites will take to the skies above historic Dangberg Ranch over the weekend of May 16-17 during the "Something in the Wind" festival. Expert kite flyers, kite making and other children's crafts, as well as wind artists will be featured.

This is a celebration of the Washoe Zephyr, the seasonal diurnal winds that are in Western Nevada.

There will be eight expert kite flyers from the Rogue Valley Windchasers Kite Club from Brookings, OR at the two day event along with Balloon Nevada with their hot air balloons on display.

Saturday and Sunday, May 16-17

The fourth annual Lake Tahoe Home and Garden Show will be held on Friday, April 24th, and Saturday, April 25th, at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Complex at 1080 Rufus Allen Blvd. The show will be open to the public on Friday from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm, and Saturday, from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm.

It's been just four weeks since Bohemian Beads & Arts opened in South Lake Tahoe, and they've already started to create a buzz. Artists, beaders, crafters and other creative people have found the store to be their new "go to" store for supplies.

If you've ever been in the middle of a project and found you needed a tube of paint, a brush or a jar of Gesso, now there is no more need to run off the hill to make a purchase.

The rush was on in 1864 to make Nevada a part of the union. Congress was in a hurry to have the support of the Republican dominated Nevada territory for President Abraham Lincoln's reelection. The three electoral votes Nevada would bring helped bring the end of slavery when Lincoln was re-elected just 9 days after Nevada became a state.

Each year, during the second weekend of August, the lawns and buildings at the historic Baldwin and Pope Estates turn back the clocks to a time of jazz, prohibition, prosperity and innovation.

The annual Gatsby Festival will be held at Tallac Historic Site August 9-10. Those that attend the free event will find vintage cars, games, music, Maytag clothes washer demonstrations, a speakeasy, tours and vendors with food and vintage clothing. The popular afternoon tea on Sunday is already sold out.

On Friday, May 30th Live Violence Free in collaboration with South Tahoe Middle School and Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra held the annual Girls Empowerment Retreat for 33 middle school girls, grades 6-8.
