Nevada State Fair wraps up in Carson City on Sunday

Dozens of vendor will at the fair, providing food, drink and product and local information.

For every pint of blood donated, BloodSource will donate a pound of pet food to the Lake Tahoe Humane Society.

Two South Lake Tahoe women win TRPA Lake Spirit Awards

During Wednesday's Tahoe Regional Planning Agency's Governing Board meeting, the two South Shore women were given the Lake Spirit award along with a family and person from the North Shore. The award has been given to "real people making real progress" at restoring Lake Tahoe since 2011.

"There are bodies everywhere," he joked, commenting on the final uphill portion of the race just before the finish line.
After 73.5 miles, the last .6 mile separated the group of women who had stayed in a close pack as they spent three hours racing around the lake.
Vets warn of dog exposure to marijuana edibles
Submitted by paula on Thu, 05/07/2015 - 11:22pmPet owners would do most anything for their animals, protecting them from all kinds of hazards. But now, it has become clear that one problem dog owners are facing with alarming frequency is their pets overdosing on marijuana edibles.
A Pleasant Hill woman owns a dog that ate something while on a hike that made him very sick. She told KTVU she was shocked to hear the veterinarian say the dog was stoned.
Marko is a playful Beagle-Boston Terrier mix.
"We go on hikes every Monday and Tuesday," said Marko's owner, Kristy Safarians.
But this Monday's hike didn't go quite as planned.

Two Whittell High School juniors, Chris Evans and Aubrey Felton, are working on their Eagle Scout rank. The young men aren't doing any textbook effort and have set their goals very high with taking on a hands-on project at a school in Thailand.
To raise the funds needed to complete the project, Evans and Felton have joined forces with the Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club in putting on Burger Night at the Red Hut Cafe Ski Run location on Wednesday, May 6 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

First in line was local resident Dayton Hirsch. "I didn't think I'd be first when I got here at 7:15 a.m.," Hirsch said. As he walked in the door he, and the next 499 people, all received a mini-soft sided cooler complete with a martini shaker, drink recipe book, cup and assorted BevMo! and vendor gifts.

Tahoe Chamber turns 60; Special celebration planned

Bill Harrah has just purchased George's Getaway Club for $500,000 and Chris Kuraisa purchased Bijou Ski Area for $1,950 and moved lift operations up the hill and renamed it Heavenly Valley. The number one song was "Sincerely" by the McGuire Sisters.
February 17, 1955 was also the day that the original Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce was incorporated.
CHP starts weekend campaign; Don't Drink and Drive on Super Bowl Sunday

With plenty of parties around the South Shore, including those at the casinos, local bars and private homes, the opportunities to drink will be plentiful.
California's Office of Traffic Safety reports a DUI arrest can add up to more than $17,000. The biggest hit comes from insurance premium increases, which can be upwards of $12,000.

The Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce is holding a holiday wine walk for their December After Hours Mixer. On Thursday, December 11, both members and non-members will get a passport and move from store to store at the Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe.
There will be El Dorado County wine as well as food at participating locations.
If participants find they have had too much to drink, free rides are being offered by Yellow Cab for all BAHM passport holders.

Family Friendly: A trip to a Reno Bighorns game

My son Chris won tickets by answering a Bighorn trivia game on a Reno radio station, so my daughter Abby and I drove down Friday night to join him and watch the season opener against the Iowa Energy.
