Raley's Offers Discounted Tickets to 25th American Century Golf Championships

Raley's grocery stores in South Lake Tahoe are offering discounted tickets to the 25th American Century Championship which takes place July 15-20. These tickets are also available at all Raley's, Nob Hill and Bel Air locations throughout Northern California and Nevada.

Tickets are discounted when purchased from Raley's, Bel Air or Nob Hill Foods. Tickets are $12 for access Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and $18 for Friday, Saturday and Sunday tournament action.

LPGA Great Annika Sorenstam Will Play in South Lake Tahoe's Celebrity Golf Tournament

The competitive landscape of the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe will dramatically alter in 2014 with the addition of LPGA great Annika Sorenstam.

The legendary golf superstar, winner of 89 international tournaments and over $22 million, is among the most successful players in history. A part-time resident of Lake Tahoe and mother of two, Sorenstam will play on even terms with pro athletes in the nationally televised, 54-hole, $600,000 competition at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

Adopt-A-Beach Program in South Lake Tahoe

That is the 2014 Beach Clean Up theme developed through joint efforts of the City of South Lake Tahoe, Lake Tahoe Visitor's Authority, Douglas County and the U.S. Forest Service Basin Management Unit.

Local agencies are partnering to launch an “Adopt-a-Beach-Tahoe” program that will coordinate regular beach clean up dates around Lake Tahoe from June 15 to September 15.

Celebrities Preparing for Lake Tahoe's American Century Championship Golf Tournament

In just two months the world of celebrity golf will take over South Lake Tahoe when the 25th Anniversary of the American Century Championship is played at Edgewood Tahoe.

Last week, two participants, former NFL Quarterback Trent Dilfer and Iraq war veteran Chad Pfeifer spoke recently with the media about the July 15-20 event.

Military Set to Receive Free Tickets to American Century Celebrity Golf

Iraq War Veteran Chad Pfeifer Selected to Golf in South Lake Tahoe Celebrity Golf Event

For the past 25 years, the South Lake Tahoe's signature sporting event has been the American Century Championship. Retired United States Army Corporal Chad Pfeifer, an Iraqi War Veteran and amputee whose golf-centered rehabilitation has turned him into a top-tier tournament player, will play in the July tournament.

South Lake Tahoe Area Plan Amended to Accommodate Edgewood Change

As Edgewood Properties moves forward with their plans to reconfigure holes on their golf course to accommodate for a new lake front lodge, they asked the City of South Lake Tahoe City Council today for a change in the area's general plan. The original Edgewood Tahoe plans were to have 100% of the golf course in the state of Nevada, but have now altered those plans to have some of the course venture into California on Edgewood owned land.

South Shore's Horizon Casino Resort to Close April 1

An era comes to an end on April 1 when the Horizon Casino Resort on the south shore of Lake Tahoe closes for renovations.

The resort was the one time local showcase of Elvis Presley and Liberace when the casino operated as Del Webb's Sahara Tahoe. In 1990 Del Webb sold the property to Kentucky based Columbia Sussex Corporation for $19 million.

Columbia Sussex owners, the Yung family, are the current operators under the corporate name, LV Casino LLC. Their lease ran out and long time Lake Tahoe and Carson Valley ranchers, the Park family, will take control after March 31.

20th Annual Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe Golf Classic

Christmas Cheer, one of South Lake Tahoe’s local food banks, could not open its doors on some Sundays this fall from lack of available funds and contributions. The South Tahoe Alliance of Resorts (STAR) came to the rescue with a $5,000 donation that will significantly replenish the shelves at the food bank for the 400 households it serves.

Edgewood Tahoe opens season May 9 with $1.6 million in upgrades

More than $1.6 million in course improvements highlight the 45th season of Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, set to open at Stateline, Lake Tahoe May 9.

A 10-year environmental plan meant to reduce impact and save water has been put in place with upgrades to the irrigation system as well as drought and stress tolerant grass. Other improvements include GPS devices on carts that feature yardage and video tips from pros.

A day after NBA basketball player Jason Collins came out as gay to Sports Illustrated, a former NFL coach and an Oakland Raider record-setting placekicker believe the NFL is ready to accept a gay football player.

"I don't think the NFL is going to have a problem," said Herm Edwards, former Kansas City Chiefs head coach, now an NFL analyst for ESPN. "Is there going to be a vote of confidence in the locker room? For some of the younger and immature players, but the veteran players — they get it."

The Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation will host the 24th Annual Ski and Snowboard Swap at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa on Saturday Nov. 17.
