Family Resource Center's 14th annual Cinco de Mayo Festival Friday

The South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center (FRC) is holding their 14th annual Cinco de Mayo Festival on Friday, May 5 starting at 5:00 p.m. at Heavenly Mountain Resort. The community is invited to join them for an "all you can eat" Mexican food buffet, dancing with live music and a fabulous raffle.

Tickets can be purchased at the center for $20 or at the door for $25. Children ages 6-12 are $10 and 5 and under are free. Raffle tickets for chances at prizes donated by local businesses are available for $5 each of 5/$20.

Viewing guide for Amgen women's races around Lake Tahoe

On Thursday and Friday, May 11 and 12, over 120 of the world's elite cyclists will descend upon Lake Tahoe for Amgen Breakaway from Heart DiseaseTM Women’s Race empowered with SRAM. The race presenter AEG, the world’s leading sports and live entertainment company, created routes that will challenge these top female cyclists. They will vie for the coveted jersey during the four-day race. After Lake Tahoe they head to Elk Grove on May 13, and the finale in Sacramento on MMay 14.

Be a Greek for a day at the North Lake Tahoe Glendi Festival

Registration begins Wednesday for those seeking Burning Man tickets

Burning Man, the popular annual festival of self-expression in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada, takes place over Labor Day weekend, August 27 – September 4, 2017. This "temporary metropolis" dedicated to art and community has become so poplar that buying the high-demand tickets is not only costly, but buying tickets is now a two-day event.

Lt. Brian Williams retiring after 30 years serving the South Lake Tahoe community

What a lively and jubilant occasion at Barton Health’s Eighth Annual Festival of Trees & Lights. It is always a treat to see the delight in children’s eyes as they admire handcrafted trees and seek “treatment” for their injured teddy bears at the Teddy Bear Hospital.

Artists sought for summer program at Valhalla in South Lake Tahoe

Valhalla Tahoe is looking for three artists to participate in this summer's Artists-in-Residence program in South Lake Tahoe in July and August.

As part of the Valhalla Art, Music & Theatre Festival, an annual summer arts festival at the historic Heller (Valhalla) Estate, the artists are highlighted in the Viking Gallery.

Valhalla Tahoe invites artists to submit a proposal for consideration for the 2017 season.

Could more concerts be held at the SLT Community Fields in the future?

During Tuesday's City Council meeting, Paul Reder of PR Entertainment will make a presentation about the possibility of his company holding one or two concerts a year on the South Lake Tahoe Community play fields.

Reder, the owner of The Loft at Heavenly Village, is also the man behind the Reggae Festival and Electronic Dance Music's (EDM) Bass Camp Festival, both held on the South Shore.

Kudos: Local high schools benefit from Snowglobe

Snowglobe gave back to the community by using local high school boosters clubs to run their merchandising booths during the three-day music festival in South Lake Tahoe.

Both the South Tahoe High and George Whittell High School booster clubs participated.

"The Snowglobe staff was unbelievable, Chad Donnelly, Leah Chisholm, Lauren Winschester, Kaitlin (in accounting), Erin (credential) and Luke White," said the booster clubs. "The job was a little larger than described but it was a great learning experience and fundraiser for both schools."

Minors with alcohol at SnowGlobe biggest problem for law enforcement

The 2016 South Lake Tahoe three-day long music festival, SnowGlobe, is over, and the thousands of of Electronic Dance Music (EDM) fans are headed home after enjoying themselves during the outdoor concert. Like with most festivals of this type, most of the arrests and citations issued by South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD), El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO), and Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) were for underage drinking.

Early tabulations show that during SnowGlobe this year there were 238 arrests, 148 of those were citations to minors in possession of alcohol.

Law enforcement and hospital kept busy with SnowGlobe issues

Fans of electronic music flock to South Lake Tahoe for the annual SnowGlobe outdoor music festival held December 29-31. The predominately under-30 crowd come from colleges and communities hundreds and even thousands of miles away to enjoy a specially gathered group of top artists in the electronic dance music (EDM) field. An estimated 15,000 tickets have been sold for the three-day event which is held on the South Lake Tahoe community's newly created ball fields.

Along with the fun though comes issues common at most music festivals: noise, trash, drinking and illegal drugs.

One day to SnowGlobe in South Lake Tahoe

Last touches are being finished at the temporary concert venue on the South Lake Tahoe community field to prepare for estimated 15,000 people who will be attending SnowGlobe 2016. From December 29-31, 2016, electronic music fans will fill the town, and organizers have put some new transportation plans in place to accommodate the crowd attending the almost sold out concert.

Winning designer and school trees announced for annual Barton Festival of Trees & Lights

The 8th annual Barton Festival of Trees & Lights at MontBleu got underway on Thursday with the Senior Stroll, complete with an ukulele concert and treats.

Judging of the decorated trees also took place. A team of local media, chamber members and educators viewed the trees and judged them on criteria including elegance, theme and creativity.

The Best of Show and Best Interpretation of Theme awards went to "Woodland Queen."

Permit for SnowGlobe late night party at Hard Rock denied

Citing concerns for safety, under-age party goers and an already taxed law enforcement staff, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners denied an outdoor festival permit for SnowGlobe Late Night events December 29-31 at Stateline.

Chad Donnelly proposed the after-party each night of the annual concert to be held under a tent in the parking lot of Hard Rock Lake Tahoe from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. The proposal was just in writing as neither Donnelly or representatives from the Hard Rock attended the meeting.

Nominations revealed for Blue Ribbon Awards

The Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce has announced the nominees for their annual Blue Ribbon Awards with 80 nominations from the community. The program recognizes businesses and individuals who excel in working as one in an effort to improve the quality of life on the South Shore.

WordWave returns to South Lake Tahoe: Workshops, plays and Steampunk all rolled into one weekend

"Krista's Cause" won top honors at the 7th annual Cocktails for a Cause held on September 21 at the Riva Grill, a drink created in honor of South Lake Tahoe local Krista Kline Carson, who is fighting brain cancer with treatments in Germany.

SnowGlobe 2016 lineup announced: Chainsmokers and Flume head up list

The much anticipated SnowGlobe lineup has been released and concert goers will be excited about the headliners this year.

The Chainsmokers, whose hit "Closer" has been the top song on iTunes for the fast few weeks, will be one of the headliners, along with Australia's Flume and Seattle's Odesza. Major Lazer is currently near the top of the charts with Justin Beiber's "Coldwater."

The first two rounds of discounted tickets to the annual three-day SnowGlobe music festival in South Lake Tahoe are already sold out, but "Advanced Sale" tickets are available through Thursday.

Bouldering competition for all abilities returns to South Lake Tahoe/Meyers

Fall Festival and Chili Cook Off in South Lake Tahoe

The fifth annual Fall Festival and the fourth annual Chili Cook Off have joined into one fun Fall event, and will take place at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Complex on Saturday, September 17.

Produced by Golden Bear Events, the Festival will open at 10:00 a.m. and run until 4:00 p.m., and the Chili Cook Off will run from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Headed to Shakespeare at Sand Harbor for final weekend? Expect delays

As the annual Shakespeare Festival on the North Shore winds down, organizers want to alert Bard fans of possible delays on getting to the event at Sand Harbor, both from the north and the south ends of the lake.

Construction has begun on Highway 28, and continues on Highway 50 around Cave Rock and on Spooner Summit. Lane closures are involved, so allow extra time to get to the the park which is located just south of Incline Village.

Chopped Restaurant Impossible winner to be guest chef at Sample the Sierra

Food Network star, Reno native and culinary storyteller Chef Clint Jolly will be the featured guest chef at Sample the Sierra’s Pop-Up Dinner on Friday, Sept. 16 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This year's featured dinner will be held at Park Prime inside Hard Rock Lake Tahoe.

Barton Foundation’s 7th annual Cocktails for a Cause

A Hidden Gem in Tahoe

Ever since I moved to South Lake Tahoe two months ago to work at Tallac Historic Site, I have been surprised daily to discover how few locals know the historic site exists. Tallac is located next to Camp Richardson and Fallen Leaf Lake Campground – an area most folks are familiar with – and yet locals constantly wander onto the site from the beach and announce they had no idea this place was here.
