Each year, children of all ages stop by the Barton Foundation's Festival of Trees and Lights to ring in the holidays during one of the special events including Senior Stroll, Teddy Bear Brunch and the Gala.
From November 30 through December 3, the convention center at MontBleu Resort will transformed into a holiday paradise featuring beautifully decorated trees, wreaths and decorations and a gift shop with famous Barton cheese balls and unique presents.
South Lake Tahoe Food & Wine Festival at Harrah's and Harveys

Activities begin Friday evening, Oct. 27, with a Whiskey Tasting at Cliché Lounge on the 16th floor of Harrah’s hotel. Enjoy tasting a variety of whiskeys from around the world, which are “Crafted,” using different processes to create amazing varieties of whiskey.

New boardwalk at Taylor Creek unveiled

As Kokanee salmon head upstream on the creek, many people walking the trail to watch this annual display of nature would often wander to the creek, many to get a selfie with bears in the area, and some even disrupting the salmon run.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Cali. - Winter may have popped into town for a few days, but fall is back as so is the 23rd annual Oktoberfest at Camp Richardson October 7-8.
This popular rite of passage features the required Oktoberfest and fall inspired brews as well as activities for the whole family from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day. Admission and parking are free, and festival goers are encouraged to take advantage of the free bike valet in front of the Mountain Sports Center. Bikers will receive an ice cream coupon when they valet their bikes.
Local food pairings a hit at sold-out Sample the Sierra
Submitted by paula on Tue, 09/19/2017 - 12:27amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - If you waited to the last minute to purchase tickets for the 8th annual Sample the Sierra you were out of luck on Saturday at Bijou Community Park. The popular festival of food, wine and beer sold out all pre-sale tickets prior to the event, and sold out of tickets at the gate just after opening, much to the disappointment of many.
1,500 full tasting tickets and 50 children tickets were sold. Those lucky enough to get in moved from booth to booth, each with either a wine, beer or alcohol paired with food, or a local artisan and their wares.
SnowGlobe 2017 lineup released

Dillon Francis, Porter Robinson, Travis Scott, Zedd and Khalid are headlining the outdoor festival which also features almost 40 other acts.
Early bird tickets are already sold out, but many other packages are still available. Three-day tickets start at $199 with the three-day VIP package now at $449.

Celebrate the migration of the Kokanee salmon during the annual Fall Fish Fest at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center in South Lake Tahoe October 7-8.
From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day walk the famous Rainbow Trail as nature is celebrated with the dramatic and colorful spawning behaviors of the salmon. Get a close-up look at this natural display is available in Taylor Creek and the Stream Profile Chamber.

“Cocktails for a Cause is a lively event that helps support health and wellness programs in our community,” said Jenny Taylor, the event coordinator. “This year, we are offering non-alcoholic options to encourage our community members who choose not to drink to join in on the fun and support an important cause.”

A fundraiser will be held in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, September 9 for long-time local Bill Horning. The South Tahoe High graduate has had some recent major medical issues but is on the road to recovery.
Horning has spent the last 35 years playing Santa Claus for the community at events such as the Barton Foundation Festival of Trees. He not only worked at the High Sierra and MontBleu, and most recently the Marriott, but has also been a coordinator with Bread and Broth and Second Serving.
Community celebrates local public safety employees

The City of South Lake Tahoe hosted the event which had live music, free BBQ and ice cream and a thank-you card making station.
Kids were able climb on board fire trucks, meet the new Search & Rescue puppy and get to know those who protect them on a daily basis.

A grocery store clerk near the eclipse festival recognized them from the missing persons' report.
No other information is available at this time.

Two sisters who traveled from South Lake Tahoe to attend the Symbiosis eclipse festival in Oregon have not been heard from since Sunday, according to the Crook County Sheriff's Office.

The Douglas High School Marching Band and western singer-songwriter Krista Jenkins return for a second year to draw the audience back in time to the frontier of the American West.

City working with promoter to keep SnowGlobe in South Lake Tahoe

The answer is "yes" according to the City Council, but exactly how the future working and financial relationships between the City and SnowGlobe will look still needs to be worked out.
Chad Donnelly, founder of SnowGlobe, made a presentation at the SLT City Council meeting Tuesday, outlining a plan to keep the annual December 29-31 music festival in the community.

SnowGlobe wants 10 year extension, say they contribute $14M to local economy annually

During Tuesday, August 15th's South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting, promoters will make a presentation to the City outlining their plans, showing how they think they can become the largest funding source of South Lake Tahoe projects and non-profits.

The event drew three hundred local youth and their families to see a free performance of the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival’s D.G. Menchetti Young Shakespeare Program. The Young Shakespeare Program takes the mainstage Shakespeare performance from the annual Sand Harbor festival and condenses it to a one hour version accessible for children. This year was the slapstick romantic comedy, Love’s Labour’s Lost.

If you have never been, this should be the year. Sit in the sand and enjoy not only great productions on the Warren Edward Trepp Stage at water's edge, but also an eclectic food and beverage area (or bring your own).
Two shows will be on the stage, alternating nights, Tuesday-Sunday through August 27.

The event’s second year will include a heritage quilting presentation, a Victorian dressing presentation, songs about local history and cowboy poetry, as well as gold panning and other children’s activities.
The Carson Valley Quilt Guild returns for its second year and will give a demonstration on a variety of quilting methods including the “Crazy Quilt”. This demonstration is from 11:00 am until Noon.

After watching the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee on opening weekend, we highly recommend this fun musical though not appropriate for those under 13). It is a Tony Award-winning musical comedy and even though far from Broadway, the local Lake Tahoe cast made it very entertaining.

The grand lawn at Valhalla has been a popular spot for Sunday afternoon concerts and now there will be two evening lawn concerts in 2017. Bring your lawn chairs and a picnic supper and enjoy some music, there will be a beer and wine garden too.

Monique DeHaviland and the Mo’z Motley Blues Band have been performing originals and 5 decades of cover music with blues infected rock, pop, soul, and country repertoire geared to make audiences move from the minute the music begins.
The band was founded in 2012 and members come from the surrounding Reno-Tahoe area. Band members are Monique DeHaviland, Samantha Moore, Mylo McCormick, Don Lalonde and Ian McDonald on horns.

June 17, 2017 - 10:00am Speaker Jim Clark will present his program, “Trains in the Westerns”, in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, June 17, at 10:00 am.
Jim Clark, known to many as “The Train Man”, will cover some of the 250 films he has worked on. Clark is an engineer and train coordinator who is associated with several of the biggest films with trains and their Hollywood stars. Some of those films include "The Lone Ranger", "Wild, Wild, West" and "Into the West".

DCSO Deputy Duffy selected as Grand Marshall for Carson Valley Days parade

The Carson Valley Active 20-30 Club is organizing the event which runs from June 9 to June 11. The club wanted to raise awareness, celebrate, honor and, most importantly, say thank you to the first responders of Douglas County, those who protect the community on a daily basis.
Live at Lakeview returns for sixth season in South Lake Tahoe

Starting June 22 and every Thursday until August 31, the free concerts will be at Lakeview Commons at the corner of Lakeview Avenue and Highway 50 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Tintabulations Handbell Ensemble

the art or practice of bell ringing."
A homegrown community handbell ensemble, Tintabulations has grown from a small group of artistic director Barb Walsh's students to a nationally and internationally respected and sought after ensemble.

After an absence in 2016 due to construction on the campgrounds at Camp Richardson, the 25th anniversary of the Valhalla Renaissance Faire returns to the South Shore for one weekend, June 10-11, 2017.
A weekend of Olde England style merriment and celebration will take place through seven acres of woods in the historic Camp Richardson, taking people back to Elizabethan times, complete with the "Queen" herself.
This year's festival takes on a renaissance, fantasy and pirate theme from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m on Sunday. T

The inaugural Lake Tahoe Brewfest is coming to the South Shore on Saturday, June 10 from noon to 5:00 p.m., and will be the first major event to bring together all of the breweries from the Lake Tahoe area’s emerging beer scene.
The Swiss Chalet Center at the corner of Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Sierra Boulevard will be the scene for the family-friendly event which will feature local arts and crafts, food, live music, games and more.
