Minden man jailed for making bomb threat, DUI at South Shore Lake Tahoe
Submitted by Editor on Sun, 03/31/2013 - 9:22amDouglas County Sheriff's Office authorities have arrested a 29-year-old Minden man for making a bomb threat during a traffic stop late Saturday at Highway 50 and Kahle Drive.
At 10:58 p.m. a Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a black Dodge SRT8 at Hwy 50 and Kahle Drive, said Sgt. Pat Brooks.
The driver, Adam Smith, 29, of Minden was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. At the time, deputies noticed a wire from the front seat to the trunk. They asked Smith about the wire and, he told them, “It’s a bomb.”

The St. Baldrick’s foundation was formed in 2005 and surpassed $100 million in donations last year for childhood cancer research across the nation. The South Lake Tahoe Fire Department put together one of several teams from the community who all rallied together to raise money.
Father and two sons injured when SUV crashes into South Lake Tahoe Denny's
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 03/07/2013 - 7:41pmA South Lake Tahoe father and two sons were injured Thursday morning after the SUV they were in crashed Denny's restaurant on Al Tahoe Boulevard, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department reports.
Todd Jackson, 28, suffered moderate injuries in the 8:50 a.m. accident after being extricated from the 2002 Dodge Durango by the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department. He was taken to Renown Medical Center in Reno. Jackson's two sons, 11 and 8-years-old, were taken to Barton Memorial Hospital where they were treated and released for minor injuries.

Fire at South Lake Tahoe home had marijuana grow operation
Submitted by Editor on Sun, 01/20/2013 - 10:37amSouth Lake Tahoe Fire Department responded early Sunday morning to a house fire at Carson and Armstrong avenues where there was a marijuana grow operation.
According to a news release, all three South Tahoe Fire engines and both medic units were committed at the fire scene, reported at 12:30 a.m. The fire was knocked down quickly so both primary and secondary searches were completed with no victims found and overhaul began.
Liberty Energy and Southwest Gas responded to secure the utilities and SLTFD was able to shut down the
water to the house.
Hot ash sparks deck fire at South Lake Tahoe home

Karl Koeppen, shift commander for the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department, said minimal damage was done to the structure and interior of the home, located in the Pioneer Village area. The fire burned the deck structure but did not creep into the interior. The residents were allowed to stay in the house after the fire was knocked down.
Authorities prepare for Lake Tahoe New Year's Eve party at Stateline

Due to the ordinarily high volume of celebrants within the Stateline casino core area during the event, U.S. Highway 50 may be closed to vehicle traffic in the evening if necessary for public safety. If that should occur, vehicle traffic will be diverted around the Stateline casino core area using upper and lower Lake Parkway Drive.

Sand bags available for South Shore Lake Tahoe residents
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 11/29/2012 - 9:49pmThe South Lake Tahoe Fire Department would like to remind residents that sand bags are available at Fire Station 3 located at 2101 Lake Tahoe Boulevard (near the “Y”) and at Bijou Park located at 1201 Al Tahoe Boulevard. There is no cost for the sand bags and residents are limited to ten (10) sand bags per household.
To pick-up your sand bags at Fire Station 3, access the rear of the property from James Avenue. At the back of the station is a large sand mound and residents can fill their own bags. Bags and shovels are located in a bin next to the sand mound.

Approximately 60 SAR volunteers along with four Sheriff’s deputies responded to 11 different deployments between Friday and Wednesday. Nine of the SAR events were within the borders of El Dorado County while two were in Alpine County.

This second forum of the political season was hosted by Soroptimist International South Lake Tahoe at Harrah’s Tahoe. Two positions are open, with five people vying for them. Clinton Schue did not attend the Oct. 10 event.
Forest Service: Fire at Elks Point Road near Highway 50 at Lake Tahoe fully contained at 2.6 acres

Cheva Heck, spokeswoman for the Forest Service, said local government resources assigned to the fire are being released. An engine will remain at the fire site overnight. The cause of the fire is under investigation. "We have no reports with lightning or problems with power lines. The fire is believed to be human caused," she said.

More details have been released by South Lake Tahoe Police Department regarding Tuesday night's fatal accident that shut down Lake Tahoe Boulevard / Highway 50 from Pioneer Trail to Midway for about three hours. The driver of the van that hit the pedestrian has been cleared of any wrong-doing, according to Sgt. Brad Williams. The investigation is continuing and the identity of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of family members.

Suspect in South Lake Tahoe stabbing remains at large; victim suffers arm wound

The stabbing happened at about 3:46 Friday afternoon in the area of 11th and Eloise. The suspect is described as late teens, a white male, without a shirt, wearing plaid white and blue shorts, a Boston Celtics ball cap being worn backwards, with a backpack and carrying a knife. The stabbing may have stemmed from an incident where the victim, a 22-year-old man, was riding a bicycle and the suspect was on a skateboard. The victim was taken to Barton Memorial Hospital with a stab wound to his arm, said South Lake Tahoe Police Lt. David Stevenson.

Topaz fire in Douglas County grows to 4,400 acres, officials revise homes destroyed at 2, with 17 structures burned
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 05/22/2012 - 6:16pmDouglas County officials scaled back the number of homes burned in the TRE Fire on Tuesday night to two homes from seven, however, 17 outbuildings were destroyed and the fire burning in south Douglas County at Topaz Ranch Estates has grown to 4,400 acres.
Sgt. Jim Halsey of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office reported the clarification in a news release. The fire continues to move in a northeasterly direction, away from homes in the Topaz Ranch Estates residential area.
