Wendy Shehadi 1941-2017

Former South Lake Tahoe resident Wendy Shehadi passed away on October 19 2017 at the age of 76 in Las Vegas. Wendy is survived by her husband Dick; sons Mark and Scott; guardian son Mike Cokeron; grandsons Michael and Ryan Shehadi; brother Dr. Richard Rupp; sister in law Louise Rupp; brother in law Michael Shehadi; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Lake Tahoe Marathon events around the lake; Some road closures

The kickoff events are now in the record books, and racers are now preparing for the rest of Lake Tahoe Marathon week to get started. Please note, State Route 89 will be closed to vehicle traffic in each direction around Emerald Bay from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 15 during the Lake Tahoe Marathon. Motorists should be aware of runners along the highway from Homewood to South Lake Tahoe.

Water main break near Stateline causes traffic issues

Crews are still at the scene of a broken water main tonight at the state line. A 12" water main pipe under ground burst at the crosswalk between Harrah's and Harveys. South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue responded to help turn off valves as did transportation workers.

The pipe carries water for the Edgewood Water Company, the supplies to all of the casinos and golf course.

At approximately 3:00 p.m. Saturday, water was flowing down Highway 50, flooding the street near Marriott Timber Lodge.

$85M in sales at Tahoe Beach Club during first phase

During their first summer of sales, 39 of the 46 available contracts to buy a luxury condominium home at the Tahoe Beach Club sold for a total of $85 million.

This development at the end of Kahle Drive in Stateline, Nevada is the first full ownership lakefront in 30 years at Lake Tahoe. They are being built on land that was once a trailer park.

Homebuyers have been mostly from the Bay Area, Southern California, Texas and New York areas.

Emily Lauren Torney 7/27/84 - 09/20/17

Emily Lauren Torney was granted her angel wings on September 20, 2017. She was born July 27, 1984 in South Lake Tahoe, CA to Phill and Sue Torney. She graduated from South Tahoe High School in 2002.

She loved the mountains and enjoyed skiing, snowboarding, water sports, and hiking. Growing up, she was involved in most sports, but loved gymnastics and dance. Her smile and infectious laugh could light up an entire room and she left a memorable impression on everyone she met.

Full weekend of activities in South Lake Tahoe

A week full of South Tahoe High homecoming activities wrap up with a parade through town Friday afternoon, football games Friday night and a golf tournament Saturday.

Watch the class floats with their worldly themes, an entourage of elementary school floats, school buses, the Homecoming Court in convertibles and dump trucks full of class and Viking spirit. They leave the bus garage on Al Tahoe Boulevard at Friday at 3:30 p.m. and proceed down Highway 50 to the high school.

South Tahoe High football team holds inaugural golf tournament

South Tahoe Football is holding their first fundraising golf tournament on Saturday, September 30 at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course. This even coincides with South Tahoe High's Homecoming weekend events.

Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.

Following the tournament will be a luncheon and awards presentation.

The cost is $100 per golfer. Opportunities to host a hole ($100) or sponsor the tournament ($1000) are also available.

Longest Day of Golf nets SLT Cancer League over $9,400

Each year the Moose Lodge of South Lake Tahoe (Loyal Order of Moose #1632) hosts the Longest Day of Golf at Tahoe Paradise Golf Course to raise funds for the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League and today they celebrated their effors, $9,462. Since 2006, golfers in the day long event have raised $125,328.82 for the non-profit to use towards transportation and grants for local cancer patients.

Residents forced to evacuate as fire in Yosemite grows

8/20 update: The fire grew minimally yesterday as thunderstorms skirted the perimeter. 3,191 acres have now burned and the fire is at 10 percent contained. Mandatory evacuations will remain in place in Wawona for the area east of Highway 41 on Forest Dr. and Chilnualna Falls Rd.

South Lake Tahoe Rotary's 2nd annual Hootenanny

It's a Hootenanny, complete with music by the Redneck Quartet, local beer tasting, food and fun, all put on by the South Lake Tahoe Rotary club on Saturday, August 19 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lake Tahoe Golf Course.

Tickets or those over 21 are $45 if bought ahead of the event, $50 at the door and include unlimited beer tasting and food. Kids 6 and under are free, and designated drivers and those ages 7-20 are $20.

Besides food, drink and dancing there will be face painting and family games.

For many locals who like to play on the mountain trails and along the beach and eventually need to get to work, this is the hardest time of the year.

Annual Canadian Goose roundup completed in Lake Tahoe and Reno

Not only humans enjoy hanging out in Lake Tahoe, the Canadian Goose does as well, and according to many, perhaps too well. The annual goose roundup is now complete with 118 of the geese from Lake Tahoe now living at the Wild Horse Reservoir in Elko County.

Our beautiful, spiritual, creative, loving Evan Allan Menchel has left us to soon on June 20th, 2017.

If you've ever met Evan, you remembered him. His time on this earth was short but glorious. He had a different outlook on life that very few could conceive. He lived for experiences.

Sierra House principal leaving Lake Tahoe for Vacaville

Ryan Galles, the principal of Sierra House Elementary in South Lake Tahoe, has announced that he is leaving Lake Tahoe Unified School District.

Galles has accepted the position of Director of Elementary Education for the Vacaville Union School District (VUSD), a district with 12,000 students and 10 elementary schools.

They broke ground on the new Edgewood Lodge at the south shore of Lake Tahoe in October of 2015, but plans and environmental improvements began years before that in preparation for the new 169,000 square-foot hotel and spa with dining, shopping and adventures options along with 154 rooms.

Justin Timberlake returns to Tahoe to play in American Century Championship

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Justin Timberlake is returning to Lake Tahoe for his third consecutive year playing in the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe. The singer/actor was an instant crowd favorite in his first year, and continued to be fan favorite in 2016.

Timberlake, an avid golfer, has a 4-handicap. Besides singing, acting, being a husband and father, he is also known for his philanthropic endeavors.

Flooding affects homes and roads in South Lake Tahoe

There were several areas through South Lake Tahoe that experienced flooding on Tuesday as rain from an atmospheric river hit the region, with two Meyers area streets getting the brunt of the storm.

Caltrans, El Dorado County and City of South Lake Tahoe crews, along with homeowners worked through the day to get standing water off the road, out of driveways and even homes.

Thomas A. DeGuide 1945-2017

Thomas A. DeGuide, long time local resident and former owner of The Goal Post, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2017 in Carson City at the age of 71 with his wife and son at his side.

TRPA approves Tahoe Basin Area Plan, Lodge Project

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) Governing Board on Wednesday unanimously approved Placer County’s Tahoe Basin Area Plan and the Tahoe City Lodge Project.

“This is the fourth area plan approved at Lake Tahoe and an important milestone for implementing the 2012 Regional Plan,” said Joanne S. Marchetta, executive director of TRPA. “With this plan, we can take significant steps to improve the environment and strengthen communities on Lake Tahoe’s North Shore.”

Felons arrested for shooting guns in Meyers

Four visitors to the South Shore were arrested by El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies on Friday night after they were caught shooting firearms on U.S. Forest Service land behind Tahoe Paradise Golf Course in Meyers.

On December 16, deputies responded to a call of shooting about 100 yards from the end of Lost Lane. Upon arrival they found four men, Alexander, Keoseng, Johlany and Yao Saechao with guns. Alexander and Keoseng are convicted felons from Stockton, Calif., and are prohibited from possessing firearms. All four were arrested and booked into the El Dorado County Jail.

Vernice Velma Rianda 1928-2016

Vernice Rianda, former long-time Lake Tahoe Community College bookstore employee and mother of El Dorado County Supervisor Sue Novasel, has passed away at the age of 88.

Construction moving along at new Edgewood Lodge; Reservation center open

The newest lakefront resort being built on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe is set to open in June, 2017, and reservations for the 154 room Edgewood Lodge are already being taken.

On a tour this week of the new lodging property located within the grounds of the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, work crews could be seen working on the swimming pool, the rooms, lobby, spa, restaurant, the stone fence and all other aspects of the resort which will give visitors a new taste of luxury.

Sierra House wins Let's Move! Active Schools National Award

School physical education at one time was full of jumping jacks, sit ups, pull ups and push ups. Today's physical education at schools has taken on a whole new focus, and Sierra House Elementary in South Lake Tahoe is being honored for what they do on a daily basis.

The school received recognition for their outstanding efforts in creating an active school environment under First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative, Her plan is dedicated to ensuring 60 minutes of physical activity a day is the norm in K-12 schools.

League to Save Lake Tahoe supports new hotel project in Tahoe City

A prime piece of real estate in Tahoe City that was originally built in 1957 for housing during the 1960 Olympics has never lived up to its potential, and is now proposed for destruction to make way for a 118-room hotel.

Sold at the end of 2013, the property known as the Hendrickson Building located at the west end of Tahoe City at 255 North Lake Blvd. is being transformed into the Tahoe City Lodge.

What we can learn when celebrities & athletes go head-to-head at Lake Tahoe

Maybe there's just no use talking to PGA Tour players about pressure. Their skills exist on an entirely different plateau, and their weekly exposure to seven-figure paychecks and audiences has inured them from experiencing anything like what we mortals feel teeing it up in a club championship. Then again, what's the point of asking cousin Bob—who's a very nice player—for competitive advice when in the grand scheme he's just another loser, too. Tahoe Wedding Flea Market and Open House

The Lake Tahoe Golf Course will be hosting their annual Wedding Open House on Sunday, October 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Besides local wedding vendors being on hand to share information about their services, there will be a Tahoe Wedding Flea Market.

Future brides and grooms can shop for wedding items that will be available at great prices.

Organizers are renting flea market tables for just $10. People are invited to bring wedding items to sell to the brides, grooms, bridesmaids, and moms who will be attending.

Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care releases Golden Eagle over Red Lake

There were tears, smiles and applause as a Golden Eagle was released Sunday over Red Lake after being rehabilitated by Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care for the past month.

"Loyalton" was found by a Fish and Wildlife warden near the town of Loyalton with no real injuries, but was emaciated. LTWC volunteers call Loyalton a "he" but they don't really know as they don't test the sex on their eagles.

10 cited for alleged illegal contracting violations during South Lake Tahoe sting

Contractors State License Board (CSLB) investigators working with investigators from the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office cited ten men posing as licensed contractors during a recent sting operation.

Four of the individuals caught are Nevada residents, and the other six are South Lake Tahoe locals.

Posing as homeowners, investigators invited suspected unlicensed contractors to place bids on home improvement projects for a single-family home near the Tahoe Paradise Golf Course. Suspects placed bids ranging from $1,150 for interior painting to $6,000 for tile installation.

Coyote Classic Golf Tournament to raise funds for LTCC soccer teams

The inaugural Lake Tahoe Community College's Coyote Classic Golf Tournament on September 7 will raise funds for the school's men's and women's soccer teams. Players will be using a 2:00 p.m. shot gun start at Lake Tahoe Golf Course.

Costs are $125 per player or $475 per foursome. The entry includes 18 holes of golf, staged cart, pre-tourney driving range access, entry into fun contests with prizes, two drink tickets, hot dogs on the course, plus an evening BBQ. Raffle prizes, silent auction and a chance to meet the players, coaches, and their fun-loving coyote mascot is also included.
