The South Tahoe Chamber will be holding their annual golf tournament at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course on Tuesday, August 23. Registration will start at 7:30 a.m., shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. This is a player scramble/best ball format.

Entry fee is $95 and covers the player's green fees, cart, range balls, awards luncheon and contests. The theme is pirates and everyone is invited to decorate their carts and come dressed in their favorite pirate finery.

SLT Rotary holds BBQ, Beer & Beats Festival

Wrap-up stats from American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe

The celebrities are gone, the tarmac at the airport is empty of luxury jets, the golf course is open to the public and the crowds have lessened. American Century Golf Championship 2016 is in the books so it's time to look into some stats from one of the biggest tourism weeks of the year for South Lake Tahoe.

The Repeat Champ: Mark Mulder won his second consecutive ACC title becoming the third back-to-back champion in the tournament’s 27-year history, joining 8-time champion Rick Rhoden who accomplished the feat in 2008- 2009, and five-time winner Dan Quinn.

24-pound fish caught in front of Edgewood during Celebrity Golf Tournament

Catching a glimpse and photo of favorite celebrities weren't the only things being caught over at Edgewood Tahoe this weekend, large Mackinaw were also in on the action.

Capt. Paul Mueller and customers on board his Tahoe Sport Fishing charter were fishing in the water offshore from the American Century Golf Championship on Friday, July 22. Fish weren't biting so Mueller was planning on relocating when he decided, at the last minute, to take another pass at the same spot and go at it differently and alter his technique.

Water main breaks near Genoa, residents on precautionary boil water alert

3:30 p.m. update from Douglas County Officials: The water line has been located, but it is 15 feet deep with a gas line in the excavation hole and unmarked fiber optic lines running parallel to the edge of pavement along the old road bed. Therefore, efforts are currently limited to the use of a vactor truck for excavation.

The road crew is working with utilities on the excavation. It is anticipated that the crews will be working into the night to make the leak repair. Crockett Construction is onsite and they will be performing the excavation once fiber optics are located.

American Century Championship pairings for Friday

Golf and Justin Timberlake fans will have to get up early to follow the popular celebrity over at Edgewood Tahoe on Friday.

Timberlake, paired with good friend Alfonso Ribeiro, will tee off at 6:50 a.m. The singer/actor golfed in Tahoe on Wednesday, then flew to San Diego to participate in Comic Con 2016, and will be back for an early round of golf. Timberlake plays the part of Branch in the soon-to-be-released animated movie, Trolls.

Women's long drive record established at Edgewood during celebrity golf action

A drive of 336-yards by the 2013 Women's World Long Drive Champion Heather LeMaster was good enough to establish a world record at elevation during the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe on Tuesday.

LeMaster, a Sacramento native, was one of four contestants to attempt the record.

Johanna "Jo Jo" Conroy July 24, 1950 - July 9, 2016

After a 3 1/2 year battle with brain cancer, JoJo Conroy passed away peacefully in her garden on Saturday July 9th. She would have been 66 on July 24th. During her 43 years as a resident of South Lake Tahoe she touched many lives in a variety of capacities. She spent her summers as a banquet waitress at Edgewood Golf Course and her winters overseeing the operation of Rainbow Mountain Ski Shop. But it was her commitment to her community and friends where she truly shined.

Live Violence Free's 17th Annual Sunset Gala

2nd annual Tahoe Games Bike Night Series starts Friday

The Tahoe Games, the unique nighttime bike series at Lake Tahoe Golf Cours, returns this summer with the first night on Friday, June 24.

Cyclists on non-motorized bikes go cross-country over fairways, through the sand bunkers, into the rough and over the bridges, all while illuminated. All ages had a blast at this event last summer.

Sierra Cycle Works will be on hand with bike demos and raffle prizes for competitors. Helmets bike lights, headlamps, glow sticks, decorated bikes and costumes are all strongly encouraged.

260 teams coming through Tahoe as they run 178 miles in two day race

The 12th annual Reno Tahoe Odyssey will take runners from Reno, north of Verdi, down to Boca Reservoir, Truckee, down to South Lake Tahoe, over to Virginia City and back to Reno starting Friday afternoon, June 3. The event this year is 178 miles long, has 260 teams which split up 36 legs of the race, and they don't stop as the sun drops, they run all night long.

Wounded Warrior Andrew Bachelder added to American Century Championship

Retired Staff Sergeant Andrew Bachelder, a decorated veteran of Iraq and the ongoing war in Afghanistan, has been added to the American Century Championship field of celebrities for their annual Lake Tahoe tournament July 19-24, 2016.

Bachelder earned a spot by winning the George W. Bush Presidential Center’s Warrior Open this past October in Irving, Tex.

Bijou Bike Park: Preventing damage, safety issues and planned updates

Sledders and snowboarders this season were not kind to the new Bijou Bike Park, breaking down banked trails, overturning tables and benches, and leaving the area full of trash.

At Thursday's South Lake Tahoe Parks & Recreation Commission meeting, City staff, commissions and bike enthusiasts discussed how to ensure the damage and some other issues at the park come to an end.

90 players committed to playing in Celebrity Golf Championship

Charles Barkley, Justin Timberlake, and Steve Kerr and Andre Iguodala of the Golden State Warriors lead a group of 90 sports and entertainment stars coming to South Lake Tahoe for the 27th annual American Century Championship, July 19 – 24, 2016. Many were hoping to see Steph Curry on the list, but with the Olympic Games in Rio just after the tournament, speculation is that he had to skip the stop in Tahoe.

Public can comment on Negative Impact Study for Meyers water quality project

The Meyers area will soon see a new erosion control project and water quality improvement projects in the neighborhood bordered by the Upper Truckee River on the west and Lake Tahoe Golf Course on the northwest, US Highway 501 State Route 89 on the south, and by Pioneer Trail on a small portion on the east.

The County will administer rights-of-way to install the improvements to the existing storm water conveyance system which is comprised of channels, basins, culverts, inlets, and infiltration system.

Barton Health brings 'A Taste of Hawaii' to Lake Tahoe Golf Course

29th Annual Booster Club Golf Tournament

Mark Mastrov, a Sacramento Kings co-owner and founder of 24-Hour Fitness, is selling his waterfront Lake Tahoe home in Glenbrook, Nev., for $35 million.

New fee schedule and SnowGlobe on City Council agenda Tuesday

The South Lake Tahoe City Council will look at the new Master Fee schedule during the March 14 meeting, something they do annually. The proposed fees and charges for 2015-16 show no change for users of the recreation center or campground, a $2 to $3 increase in daily golf course fees, a $5 to $15 increase in golf course passes.

Timothy Roger Stoll June 16,1938- February 12, 2016

Dr. Timothy Stoll died suddenly of galloping pneumonia on February 12, 2016 at the age of 77.

Dr. Stoll, an icon of the Tahoe area, practiced dentistry for over 50 years in both South Lake Tahoe and Minden.

Production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella at the South Tahoe High School

Before Hwy 50 it was horses and wagons on the Johnson Cut-Off

The trip is hot and dry. A layer of several feet of dust lined the route, flying around as the wheels of the wagons and hooves of the horses pass over. The road is steep and over granite along the 130 miles from the Carson Valley to Placerville. When not the middle of summer, the road is muddy or buried by snow. A horse could cover the terrain in 24-hours.

The road is Johnson's Cut-off and the year is 1852. It was built by John Calhoun "Cock-eye" Johnson as a way to cut off 50 miles and 2,000 feet in elevation from the common route people took over Donner Summit as they emigrated West.

South Tahoe Greenway plans moving forward

Sometime in the future, one will be able to hop on a bike at Van Sickle Bi-State Park and travel on Class 1 trails to Sierra Tract, and hopefully beyond.

The concept for the trail where people would walk and bike safely off the main roads actually began in 1985. Caltrans owned land through the middle of neighborhoods where a highway was proposed, but when it was apparent that would never be built, the California Tahoe Conservancy (CTC) joined Caltrans in discussions to obtain the land.

Meyers connects to South Lake Tahoe with Class 1 bike trail

The final portion of the Class 1 bike trail network between Meyers and South Lake Tahoe was formally opened Wednesday with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Members of the El Dorado County project team were on hand along with current Area 5 Supervisor Sue Novasel and former Supervisor Norma Santiago. Partner agency staff were also there to celebrate the completion.

Lake Tahoe celebrity golfers to play in Diamond Resorts Tournament in Florida

Sports and entertainment stars, including many of the current and future Hall of Famers, MVPs and stars who golf in South Lake Tahoe's annual celebrity tournament, will be teeing it up in the inaugural Diamond Resorts Invitational celebrity golf tournament at the Golden Bear Golf Club in Orlando, Fla., Jan. 14-16, 2016.

Sierra-at-Tahoe announces upcoming job fairs

There has been a slight dusting of snow over the highest peaks of the Sierra Nevada this week, a sign of the approaching winter season.

In order to prepare for the ski and snowboard season, Siera-at-Tahoe will hold their first job fair of the year on Tuesday, October 6 at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Applications for jobs in the food and beverage area will be accepted.

There will be a job fair at the resort November 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for mountain operation jobs such as lift operators, guest services, host, ticket takers, and ski school.

Lodge at Edgewood Tahoe breaks ground on South Shore

A ground breaking ceremony at Edgewood Tahoe brought out community and political leaders, all wanting the celebrate their new project, the Lodge at Edgewood Tahoe.

Rain brought the ceremony indoors, but spirits weren't dampened as people speaking at the ceremony highlighted the major impacts the new project on the state line will make on South Shore's economic and community revitalization, as well as important environmental and recreational enhancements in the area.

Golf tournament to raise funds for fallen South Lake Tahoe firefighter

There will be a golf tournament at the Tahoe Paradise Golf Course on Saturday, October 3 to benefit the family of fallen firefighter, Mikey Hallenbeck.

Hallenbeck, 21, died this summer after a tree fell on him while fighting his first fire as a member of the U.S.F.S. fire crew. He grew up in Shingle Springs, Calif., was living in Meyers at the time of his death and worked at Sierra-at-Tahoe during the winter.

The Wildland Firefighter Foundation will host the tournament, called "Barefoot for Birdies," with all funds raised going to the family as well as the foundation.

Crane topples over at Edgewood Tahoe construction site

Nobody was injured when a crane being operated at the new Lodge at Edgewood Tahoe toppled over on Wednesday afternoon.

The crane, owned by Connolly Crane out of Gardnerville, NV, was getting ready to move when the operator released the brake instead of the house lock according to Kelly Connolly, the owner of Connolly Crane.

Season wraps up for inaugural cross country night bike races

The inaugural Tahoe Games Bike Night Series, presented by On Course Events, Tahoe Center for Orthopedics and the Lake Tahoe Golf Course will conclude with the final races of the season on Saturday, September 26.

These family-friendly x-country night bike races feature a custom illuminated course that runs through the Lake Tahoe Golf Course, over fairways, into the rough, through sand traps and over bridges with the occasional cart path. The course is approximately 3 miles per lap, with most classes riding 2 laps.

City history hunt wraps up Saturday; Historical Society launches new one

Now that history buffs have started the hunt with the City of South Lake Tahoe's week full of treasure, the Lake Tahoe Historical Society picks up the trail.

August 29 is the last day of the City's hunt. Maps can be picked up at any City facility including the Recreation Center, Explore Tahoe, the Campground by the Lake and Bijou Golf Course. The maps maps can also be downloaded. There will be a chance at prizes for those that complete the hunt.

Vendor pairings announced for Labor Day's Sample the Sierra

The vendor pairings for the 6th Annual Sample the Sierra have been announced. Approximately 54 local restaurants, wineries, breweries, distilleries, farmers and producers will participate in the one-day farm-to-fork festival on Sunday, September 6 at Bijou Community Park in South Lake Tahoe, CA.
