First proposed in the early 1990's, the resurrection of the Tahoe Valley Area plan made great strides towards adoption in 2014 with Hitchcock holding four public meetings where input was requested, presenting the plan to TRPA three times, three times to City Council and twice to the planning commission.

Are you prepared for a rise in burglaries?

Since the beginning of December, 2014 there have been 19 thefts, six burglaries and two robberies reported in the South Lake Tahoe city limits. While many of these are petty thefts, others have resulted in the theft of valuable jewelry, electronics and other belongings from residences while the owners weren't home.

Have you protected your home to the best of your ability? Many of us may think that "it can't happen to me," but when a home was burglarized around the corner from me, I changed that mode of thinking and started looking into ways to better protect mine.

2014 – A Year of Success

To My Tahoe Neighbors,

As time goes by, and the older I get, it is truly rewarding to look back and reminisce over the many wonderful California Tahoe Conservancy projects that we have accomplished in Lake Tahoe.

I attribute our major successes to the outstanding Conservancy staff. Their knowledge, energy, and motivation make my tenure on this board very worthwhile.

I have always been very proud to say I am a member of the California Tahoe Conservancy. Although 29 years have come and gone, we still have a very bright future at Lake Tahoe.

Nevada — the driest state — has no statewide water plan

Nevada is suffering from a debilitating drought, experiencing the impacts of a warming climate and, some say, is deficient when it comes to long-term water planning for the state as a whole.

Debate is mounting over the need to begin development of a comprehensive water plan taking into account available water supplies, drought, climate projections and development that will tap limited water resources across the nation's most arid state.

Everyone is invited to recognize, commemorate and celebrate, from former employees, current and past residents, visitors, business owners as well as friends and neighbors.

The overall focus points of the 'celebration' are on building historic awareness, current day recognition and community pride in both the immediate and extended community that South Lake Tahoe so fortunately holds.

They want it it be obvious throughout the town all year that the city is celebrating 50 years.

Thank you South Lake Tahoe

Happy Thanksgiving. You've no doubt heard or read these words a few times already today.

Thank you readers. You've made this year so special for me. When I started in July of 2013 I wasn't sure what was going to happen. Will people read what I spend hours on? Will they find it useful, helpful or thought provoking? Will they even find SouthTahoeNow.com? I appreciate each and every one of you and look forward to even bigger things in the next year.

We have started a new weekly feature on South Tahoe Now: Five Questions, Meet Your Neighbor. Get to know your neighbors, the every day people you see at the store, on a walk or at the library.

1. Why did you choose South Lake Tahoe as your home?

My husband, Steve, had been coming to Tahoe since he was two. Once we had a family, we began spending our summer vacations here too. After he retired, we knew we could live anywhere and South Lake Tahoe met all our criteria. AND we knew our sons would visit if we lived some place really cool.

Opinion: Is Meyers a community willing to work together?

After witnessing the Tahoe Paradise Resort Improvement District (TPRID) meeting last week I starting thinking how the residents of Meyers and Tahoe Paradise could be better served.

What happened at the TPRID meeting was a sad display of a board in action. There was yelling, arguing and, what one person witnessing everything said, “don’t air your dirty laundry in a meeting like this.”

Marijuana is a major concern for many in our City. As part of the City Code, our City Council provided for a safer community by allowing marijuana grow operations only after a permit is obtained. The permit process provides for a building official to inspect for things like:
