If you've had to travel on Highway 50 through Meyers this week you've most likely been stuck in one spot for quite a while.
Due to a grinding and paving job on U.S. Highway 50 from Apache Avenue to Country Club Drive in Meyers, motorists have found one lane of controlled traffic each day from from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Monday, the traffic back up started in Meyers and went past the Tahoe Valley Airport.
The "local's way" on Pioneer Trail is affected with the controlled traffic. For those heading over Echo Summit, it will be easier to take Lake Tahoe Blvd. to North Upper Truckee Road.

Once considered rundown and dirty, Reno, as well as neighboring Sparks, is experiencing a staggering rebirth. Only eight percent of their economy now comes from the gaming and tourism industry, with the remainder coming from a boom of the relocation of manufacturing and distribution companies.
What is evident is that the Reno of today is not the Reno of 25 years ago. It isn't even the same Reno of four years ago.

You choose: Stay in South Lake Tahoe longer, or sit in traffic
Submitted by paula on Fri, 07/03/2015 - 9:27pmThree new message signs were unveiled in South Lake Tahoe this week, just in time for the holiday weekend. Since the fourth of July is a big tourist draw, it is the perfect time to test out all the message signs can provide to those on the road.
Who wouldn't want to enjoy the lake a little bit longer, hike or bike a little bit longer, or linger over a big meal instead of sitting in traffic over Echo Summit on Highway 50?
4th of July sobriety check point on South Shore
Submitted by paula on Fri, 07/03/2015 - 8:39amThere will be a State of Nevada Law Enforcement DUI check point in the Douglas County portion of South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, July 4.
There is a large increase in both vehicular and pedestrian traffic along the area's roads due to the fireworks display and holiday parties. The increase in law enforcement presence at Lake Tahoe will help deter motorists and pedestrians from entering the roadways while impaired.
'Godfather of Tahoe Beach Clean Ups' still at it after 17 years
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/02/2015 - 2:50pmWhat began two years ago as an organized response to firework debris found on South Lake Tahoe beaches has turned into a major community wide trash pick up effort, gathering what beach goers left behind after the 4th of July activities.
But cleaning up beaches on the South Shore isn't anything new for long-time local Kenny Curtzwiler. One could call him the 'Godfather of Tahoe Beach Clean Ups."

Event Date:
July 2, 2015 - 8:00am
The South Lake Tahoe Police Department has been meeting with community members and visitors one day a week for the past month during "Coffee With a Cop."
Lieutenants, Sergeants and the Chief have been at the Stateline area Starbucks each Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., giving everyone a chance to meet the department's administrative staff and help shape policing efforts in South Lake Tahoe.
There have been a few people who have shown up each week because they knew the SLTPD would be there, others just stop by when they see them sitting at the table.
