South Lake Tahoe DMV to Close for Renovations
Submitted by paula on Thu, 03/13/2014 - 11:01amTime to get all of your DMV paperwork turned into the South Lake Tahoe office! They will be closing for renovations at noon on Wednesday, March 26 and reopening on Tuesday, April 1.
The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is alerting local customers that the office, located at 3344 South Lake Tahoe Blvd #B will be closed so to plan ahead.
Girls from Whittell and South Tahoe Lead Nevada State High School Ski Championships

The South Tahoe Girls took first overall.
Maia Bickert from South Tahoe High took 1st in all three races, Slalom, Giant Slalom and Duals. Whittell's Michael Gardner placed 2nd in Duals, 6th in Giant Slalom and 5th in Slalom while teammate Madison Idso placed 2nd in Giant Slalom, 8th in Slalom,

Submitted by paula on Sun, 02/16/2014 - 1:03amTwo American men won medals in Sunday morning's Super G race in Sochi: Andrew Weibrecht from Saranc Lake, NY wins the Silver while there was a tie for the Bronze between Bode Miller from Easton, NH and Jan Hudec from Canada. With a time of 1:18:14, Kietil Jansrud from Norway won the Gold.
25 year old Travis Ganong from Truckee came in 23rd. Earlier in the week Ganong finished 5th in the Men's Downhill.
Julia Mancuso of Lake Tahoe Places 8th in Sochi Super G
Submitted by paula on Sat, 02/15/2014 - 2:23pmNorth Lake Tahoe's Julia Mancuso led Team USA once again Saturday, posting the best American finish in eighth at a rough and unforgiving super G, the final women’s speed event of the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games. Another difficult course set plus temperatures in the 40s yielded DNFs in seven of the first eight racers, but Austrian Anna Fenninger dialed it in for gold on the inconsistent course.
South Tahoe High Skiers Take First at High School Ski Races at Heavenly Valley

South Tahoe High's Connor McKeen came in 1st in the boys' races with a total combined time of 1:01.79. Grant Dunkelman of Douglas came in 2nd at 1:02.98 followed by Harrison Goss of North Tahoe 1:03.55.
Maia Bickert from South Tahoe High came in 1st in the girls' races with a time of 1:02.96, followed by Cheyenne Brown of Truckee with a time of 1:04.86 and Laurel Taylor of Incline at 1:07.66.

Prescribed Fire Operations Continue in Lake Tahoe This Week

In South Lake Tahoe, the prescribed burns will take place on the east side of Tahoe Mountain, the south side of Highway 89 near Camp Richardson, and off of North Upper Truckee Road in the Angora fire area south of Mule Deer Circle.

Most recently, Satre was a government affairs and legislative analyst for the law firm of Snell & Wilmer, LLP. She has also worked on Capitol Hill in Washington DC for Senator Harry Reid and held legal internships at the Federal Communications Commission and U.S. Department of Education.

U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association announced the nomination of 13 halfpipe and slopestyle snowboarding athletes Sunday afternoon at the conclusion of the Sprint U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix. Slopestyle snowboarding will be contested in the Olympic Winter Games for the first time ever in Sochi. The five event qualifying series came down to the final stop at Mammoth Mountain, with all but two spots decided during the final event weekend.

South Tahoe Vikings Holds Off 2nd Half Surge by Churchill County to Get 3rd Straight Win

As has been the case this season, South Tahoe came charging out with strong play on both sides of the court. The 3rd quarter box score had Churchill outscoring South Tahoe 12-8 but the Vikings rebounded with a 19-15 4th quarter.
South Tahoe Viking Boys Basketball Team Victorious in League Opener

The boys started off the game with 9 straight, unanswered points and lead throughout the game, ending up victorious with a 52-45 win over Truckee.
The girls team was in a battle through 4 quarters but ended up with a loss with a score of 33-24. Their Thursday night was a win over Wooster, 48-28.

Incline Village Resident Wins Trip to Super Bowl

Megan Kasden spoke through tears this week when she answered the phone and found out she had won the Gene Upshaw Memorial Fund Super Bowl raffle. The prize is an all-expense paid trip for two to Super Bowl XLVIII at the Met Life Stadium. The raffle raised $30,000 for traumatic brain injury research and programs and services for cancer patients and families at the Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center. The same center where Kasden’s husband, Gary had just completed a long series of chemotherapy treatments.
Carbon Monoxide Not a Harmless, Colorless Gas

"It" is carbon monoxide (CO) and is responsible for hundreds of deaths a year.
You read and hear about it in the news too often: Occupant of home found dead due to carbon monoxide poisoning. In Truckee recently, two men died of carbon monoxide poisoning caused by their home's heating ventilation.

Three Coldwell Banker Select Agents Make Big Impact at the North Tahoe Ironman Event

However, the hard work of three agents also translates outside of the office. Last weekend, Pike Reardon, Jim Kilen and Penny Echan all participated in the North Tahoe/Truckee Ironman event, with Reardon and Kilen having big finishes, with Pike finishing 9th in his age group and 84th overall. Echan woke up at 2AM Sunday morning to get her kayak in the lake prior to the 5AM start time of the event.

Even having the trademark name in all capital letters gives one a sense of strength.
Lake Tahoe IRONMAN Athletes Vie for $75,000 in Prizes
Submitted by paula on Tue, 09/17/2013 - 11:53pmNearly 2,500 athletes are headed to the North Lake Tahoe area this week for IRONMAN, a full triathlon which will have them running 26.2 miles, biking 112 miles and swimming for 2.4 miles. The sold out event will have the events spread from Lake Tahoe to Squaw Valley and Truckee.
There are 13 age divisions from age 18 to 80 as well as professional and physically challenged divisions. Fifty winners from the event will qualify for the Championship IRONMAN in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii in October, 2014.

September 27, 2013 - 5:00pm Julian, 5, is diagnosed with cerebral palsy and Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, a rare form of epilepsy that is difficult to treat. He has many different types of seizures multiple times a day. The journey to control his seizures has been difficult and on-going. The fundraiser will help raise money for alternative medicine not covered by health insurance. The fundraiser is free, and includes music, food, beer, wine, balloon twisting, and face painting. There will also be a silent auction from 6 -8 p.m. with great prizes. Everyone in the community is invited and encouraged to attend.

Be sure to obey those rules and regulations, and don’t do something illegal. If you do, and if you get caught, it could be a very expensive experience.
Celio Ranch Transports Visitors to a Bygone Era

Spread over 100 acres at the base of Echo Summit near South Lake Tahoe, the Celio Ranch shows what it was like in years gone by.
If you can tune out the sound of an occasional car engine or airplane you can imagine what these early settlers found as they farmed and created a large family business 150 years ago.

Possession of fireworks of any kind, including sparklers, is illegal in the Lake Tahoe Basin and campfires are not permitted on National Forest beaches or in the general forest. For those planning to barbecue on the beach, the Forest Service requires the use of portable gas stoves.

June 8 is Nevada’s Free Fishing Day for the year 2013. On that day, you can fish anywhere you want, and not need a Nevada fishing license or a Nevada Trout Stamp or a Nevada Second Rod Stamp.
