SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area including Truckee, Markleeville, Tahoe City, and South Lake Tahoe. The advisory is for Monday, December 16 from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Expect wet snow with snow accumulations up to 6 inches west of SR 89 with up to an inch at lake level. Ridge winds gusting as high as 80 mph. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph with wave heights between 1 and 3 feet on Lake Tahoe.

After the quick storm leaves, highs will get into the 50s by Wednesday.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County Sheriff's Office responds to calls throughout the county. The following calls only pertain to the South and West Shore, including Meyers, South Lake Tahoe, Meeks Bay, Tahoma, and the Echo Summit area. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The EL Dorado County Department of Transportation (DOT) has been the topic of conversation of late with its lack of staffing amidst salary talks and other pay issues.

This December marks a significant milestone for the Lake Tahoe Region. Fifty-five years ago this month, a unique interstate compact between the states of California and Nevada became law, creating the nation’s first bi-state environmental planning agency. I have had the honor of serving on the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) Governing Board for more than four years and as Board Chair for the last two.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - At the December 13 regular meeting of the El Dorado County Board of Education, Rachel Librach and Ken Futernick took the oath of office to become the new trustees for Area 1 and Area 3. Kathi Jensen took the oath of office as a returning trustee for Area 5.

Librach will represent Area 1, which includes portions of Buckeye, Latrobe, El Dorado Union High, and Rescue.

“I am very much looking forward to giving back to my community and working with parents, students, and faculty to maintain our high-quality schools and learning environments,” said Librach.

CARSON CITY, Nev. - Nevada Attorney General Aaron D. Ford announced this week that the Office of the Attorney General has filed charges in the Carson City Justice Court related to the 2020 “fake electors” case. The six Nevadans who falsely represented themselves as presidential electors in the aftermath of the 2020 election have been charged with Uttering a Forged Instrument, a category D felony.

The six "fake electors" had attempted to award Nevada’s six electoral college votes to former President Donald Trump despite his clear loss to Democrat Joe Biden in 2020.

David "Jake" Burns, 75, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2024, in Oceanside, California surrounded by his wife Barbara, and four children. Jake was born December 26, 1948, on the island of Guam. As the oldest of seven siblings in a Marine Corps family, he moved to Virginia, Ohio, and San Diego before settling in Orange, California. He graduated from Villa Park High School and went on to college at UC Riverside and later Loyola Law School.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe has canceled its second night of the Festival of Lights due to inclement weather tonight, but the Lake Tahoe Historical Society is going forward with its holiday celebration on Saturday, December 14 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Santa Claus will be at the historic Osgood Toll House, a great place to share wish lists and take photos. The decorated log cabin and museum are open for free tours.

Enjoy free hot chocolate and cookies, and grab some mistletoe from the Soroptimist of Tahoe Sierra club!

South Tahoe High School’s Sewing Club would like to thank the South Lake Tahoe Optimist Club and the Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra for their generous donations and support. The South Lake Tahoe Optimist Club donated funds that allowed us to purchase five new Singer sewing machines as well as some important accessories for the machines to help us be creative. The Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra created sewing kits with all of the necessary sewing supplies that our members would need to sew a project.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 50-year-old woman from Fremont, Calif., and an 84-year-old man from Yerington, Nev. have been identified as the two people who died in a head-on collision on November 28 on Echo Summit.

At approximately 5:35 p.m., the California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the collision between a westbound Toyota Sequoia and an eastbound Chevrolet Traverse.

The Toyota and Chevrolet collided head-on in the eastbound lane for unknown reasons.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Lake Tahoe Basin from 1 p.m. Friday to 10 p.m. Saturday.

The warning is for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area, including Stateline, Glenbrook, Tahoe City, South Lake Tahoe, Incline Village, Truckee, and Markleeville.

The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority (LTVA) recently coordinated a "Give Back" event hosted by Margaritaville Resort Lake Tahoe, and once again the South Shore sales community and area businesses gave generously to benefit Christmas Cheer All Year.

The Golden Nugget and its staff contributed a large variety of items including toys and food items, and Bally’s Lake Tahoe donated cases of toiletries, games, toys, food, and other special items. The Powderhouse and Cascade Clothing kindly donated an array of toys and plush animals, while Clearly Tahoe gave unique items from their gift shop.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Ambassador Lodge has announced its recent re-opening following an extensive renovation of the almost sixty-year-old, 57-room hotel.

4:10 PM Update: US50 has reopened but expect delays.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A head-on collision on US50 over Echo Summit closed the highway for about an hour Thursday.

At 2:47 p.m., the California Highway Patrol responded to the crash and closed the highway until the damaged cars could be removed and cars could travel safely in the area.

At this time no other information is available.

The road is estimated to reopen around 3:45 p.m.
