Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe to Give $28,000 to Local Nonprofits

Rather than funding many smaller projects as in the past, this year Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe Foundation, Inc. (SISLT) will distribute $28,000 to a maximum of five local nonprofit organizations. The goal of this new approach is to encourage applicants to think big and create increasingly impactful programs for the community.

SISLT is making significant changes to its Community Service Grants Program in 2012. The club plans to focus its efforts on identifying new, creative and innovative projects that will have a major impact on the women and/or children in its community. Only nonprofit organizations and entities with no dedicated foundation support may apply and all funds must stay within the South Shore community. Special consideration will be given to proposals for programs that address the needs of underserved populations.

"Our members are excited about the new direction we're taking with our Community Service Grants process this year. We're confident that by narrowing our focus to a maximum of five projects we will have a larger impact in the community,” said Allocations Committee Co-Chair Cindy Archer. “We're hopeful that the prospect of larger grant awards will encourage local organizations to think bigger this year and to propose new, innovative ideas that may previously have been put on the back-burner because they would require more substantial funding.”

In its 52-year history of service to the community, SISLT has contributed more than two million dollars to local nonprofit organizations. The club instituted its current Community Service Grants Program process in 1997 as an annual, formalized means to allocate its funds throughout the community.

Applications for SISLT’s 2012 Community Service Grants will be available on September 30, 2011 and can be downloaded from the organization’s website at www.sislt.org. The deadline for receipt of applications will be November 21, 2011. For more information, email the SISLT Community Grant Allocations Committee at sisltfoundation@gmail.com.
