Bird watching walk at Tahoe City

Go birding with an expert. Kirk Hardie, Co-Executive Director of the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science will lead a bird-watching walk on Saturday, June 16, 2012 (8 – 10 am, $5 donation suggested), beginning at the UC Davis Tahoe City Field Station. Bringing binoculars is recommended. After the walk, the UC Davis Tahoe City Field Station will be open from 10 am – 2 pm with a volunteer docent available for tours of the wetlands, stream restoration, and native plant demonstration gardens as well as opportunities to participate in citizen science projects for water quality monitoring, phenology monitoring, and bird watching.

About Kirk Hardie, M.S.

Kirk grew up in Sacramento, California and spent most winter weekends skiing in the Tahoe area. He has been an environmental educator in Idaho, Oregon, California, and Nevada, highlighting the beauty of birds in the natural world, among many other topics. In 2009, he received his Master of Science degree in Biology from the University of Nevada, Reno, where he developed a four-week high school curriculum based on the ecology of the Great Basin. His background in field ornithology has included research projects with Gunnison Sage Grouse and Lewis' Woodpeckers, in addition to co-leading international birding trips. Kirk also teaches Field Ornithology courses as an adjunct faculty member at Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village, NV. His favorite pastimes are hiking, biking, snowboarding, and snowshoeing…when he is not birding.
