When South Lake Tahoe became a city in 1965 there will freeway sized billboards in the community along Pioneer Trail and Highway 50. Since then, code has been written, and re-written over the years, all meant to improve the visual quality of South Lake Tahoe.

The City Code details all requirements about the type, placement, and scale of signs within different land use categories.

An evening with Citywater is the next event for the Valhalla Art, Music and Theater Festival in South Lake Tahoe.

Lisa Maloff has recently donated millions of dollars to the South Lake Tahoe community to help at the community college, hospital and other needed areas. She was honored during Tuesday's City Council meeting for her recent donation to purchase and train Ricci, the Police Department's newest K9 officer.

A shuttle and bike valet will be available for the large crowd expected to attend the 19th annual Lake Tahoe Summit on Monday, August 24 at the Round Hill Pines Beach Resort in Zephyr Cove.

El Dorado Hills resident Jeffrey Lamson, 51, pleaded guilty today to wire fraud in connection with a scheme to embezzle money from his former employer.

According to court documents, from at least 2009 through 2011, Lamson embezzled over $400,000 from a company located in Placer and Sacramento Counties while he served that company as controller. Lamson used company funds to make unauthorized payments to himself and others and made payments to a fictitious vendor, controlled by Lamson, for services that were never performed.

Scott Pemberton returns to Live at Lakeview for a rockin’ performance on Thursday, August 20, 2015.

“There was no question that we had to bring Scott Pemberton back for another season of Live at Lakeview. Nobody shreds the guitar like this guy,” states Leslie Schultz of On Course Events. “There are only two shows left in the season and we saved some heavy hitters for the end!”

Several internet leads have come into the South Lake Tahoe Police Department that may help them identify the man who came up missing on August 12 after renting a stand up paddle board.

The man rented a paddle board at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. A boater found the board floating in water about 20 feet deep about 1/2 mile off shore near the Timber Cove Marina. A later search of the area found a paddle, but no other signs as to where the person may gone, if he drowned, or who he is.

Thrill seekers, endurance athletes, and medical providers are gearing up for Primal Quest Lake Tahoe, a non-stop, unsupported race that attracts adventurers from Truckee to as far as New Zealand. The multi-sport expedition begins on the South Shore at Lake Tahoe August 19 or 20 and spans more than 450 miles of rugged terrain throughout the Sierra Nevada.

A response by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office to a reported DUI on Sunday evening resulted in two patrol cars being damaged and an arrested suspect facing a slew of charges.

On August 16, 2015 at 5:13 p.m., deputies responded to a reported DUI call about a driver in a red Dodge pickup. The vehicle was located and stopped in the parking lot of Lampe Park where deputies began a DUI investigation. The driver of the truck, 56-year-old Michael Clifford Stewart of Gardnerville, NV, started his vehicle and drove away from the deputies.

Brynn Rainey was a Keno runner at the Sahara Tahoe in 1977 when her body was found on property near the old Stateline Stables where the Van Sickle Bi-State Park now resides. She lived at what was known as the Cookbook apartments, frequented the 7-11 store on Emerald Bay Road, took the bus to work and, on the last night she was seen alive, visited the Bitter Creek Saloon near the corner of Sandy Way and Takela Drive in South Lake Tahoe.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy killed early Saturday while responding to a domestic violence call has been identified as Carl Howell, a 9-year-veteran of the Carson City Sheriff's Office. He leaves behind a wife and four children.

Carson City sheriff’s deputies responded to the report of a physical domestic disturbance between a male and female in the 4100 block of Montez Drive in East Carson City.

More than 1,500 people flocked to Gardnerville on Saturday for one of the biggest gatherings of 2016 presidential candidates in Nevada since campaign season started.

Attorney General Adam Laxalt’s Morning Nevada PAC hosted the first Basque Fry featuring five GOP contenders on the Corley Ranch southeast of town. Republican hopefuls including businesswoman Carly Fiorina, Dr. Ben Carson, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker each made pitches to the crowd as to why they should be the nominee. Former New York Gov. George Pataki was slated to appear, but did not.

The Food Bank of El Dorado County is in need of ten volunteers on Wednesday, August 26th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to help with their mobile food pantry. Once a month, the Food Bank of El Dorado County visits South Lake Tahoe with a mobile food pantry to distribute emergency supplemental groceries to those who need it most. Volunteers will be assisting in handing out food and signing people in. What would you do if you had a family miniature golf business you wanted to pass onto your four children? Build three more, of course!

In 1972, Bill and Mary Koplin built Magic Carpet Golf on land they purchased from Marjorie Springmeyer adjacent to what was once the South Lake Tahoe amusement park. Marjorie had overheard Bill and his real estate agent talking in a local restaurant about Bill's plans for building the course. "I have a piece of property I can sell you," Marjorie told them.

After the passing of the $55 million Lake Tahoe Community College General Bond, known as Measure F in November, the next step was to sell the bonds.

On August 6, 2015, $19 million of Series A bonds were sold at a much better rate than anyone expected. When the market opened at 7 a.m. PST, investors were ready to jump on these bonds and it only took two hours to sell them, and waiting in the wings were another $54.4 million in orders.

The biggest single investor was State Farm Insurance who bought about 25% of the bonds or, $4.7 million.

Mother Nature hasn't been very nice to Southern Bleachers out of Texas. They are the contractors working on the new football stadium bleachers at South Tahoe High and they missed the August 8 deadline for completion of the project. Summer rains caused several delays but they are now back on track to have the project finished by August 21, a week before the school's first football game.

Officials at Yosemite National Park said Friday they will temporarily close a popular campsite after two squirrels died of plague in the area.

Tuolumne Meadows Campground will close from noon Monday through noon Friday so authorities can treat the area with a flea-killing insecticide. Campers had their reservations canceled at the 304-site campground so the insecticide can be sprayed into rodent "burrow holes," the California Department of Health said Friday.

Plague is carried by rodents and is spread by fleas, but transmission between people is rare.

With interest of being on the Lake Tahoe Community College soccer teams on the rise, the school has decided to add a conditioning class to accommodate the big number of both local and international students at the campus.

The men's team, just off their successful inaugural season that landed them a conference championship, had 90 students try out for a place on the team this week, and 60 of them are from other countries. The women’s team is also benefiting from a lot of interest, both from local athletes and abroad.

Lake Tahoe radio host, standup comedian and emcee of the Improv at Harveys, Howie Nave is among 62 Nevada radio and television personalities and managers who will be inducted into the Nevada Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame this Saturday in Las Vegas.

Nave, who has been with KRLT FM 93.9 as host of “Howie’s Morning Rush” at Lake Tahoe for nearly 15 years, will be inducted at the Four Seasons Hotel. He joins the ranks of more than 800 broadcasters from around Nevada who make up the Hall of Fame.

Chautauqua performers Chuck Baldauskas and Doc Durden will present “Buffalo Bill & Wild Bill: Pals Together Again” at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday September 2, at 6:30 p.m. The event is open to the public and free to attend.

Scientists have found a way to put some of the 51,000 pounds of harvested fish to good use at the same time they are ridding Lake Tahoe of invasive species.

In the first three years of a cooperative pilot program between the University of Nevada Reno and California Fish and Wildlife, unwanted fish have been donated to needy families.

Glenn Litton, 47, of Carson City, Nevada, pleaded guilty today to aggravated identity theft arising from false statements he made in an application for a United States Passport, United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced.
