Professional rock climber, guide, and comedian, Timmy O'Neill, reading Where the Wild Things Are to his son Cody.
"I read to Cody because books let you travel, and interact with new places, people, and purpose," said Timmy. "Reading is important to me as it broadens my vocabulary of words, worlds, and ideas."
Reading before bed gives you and your baby a chance to cuddle and connect while setting a routine that will help calm your baby.
Lake Wind Advisory for Lake Tahoe; NV Energy issues PSOM for Carson-Genoa
Submitted by paula on Tue, 12/05/2023 - 6:34pmLAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Lake Wind Advisory for the Greater Lake Tahoe area from 10 a.m. Wednesday to 1 a.m. Thursday. Expect winds from the southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph and waves 2 to 4 feet for Lake Tahoe.
Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.
NV Energy has issued a Public Safety Outage Management (PSOM) warning for the Carson City - Genoa area for Wednesday, December 6.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue Christmas Engine schedule

It will be at the City of South Lake Tahoe/Lake Tahoe Historical Society Festival of Winter Lights on Friday and Saturday, December 8 and 9, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Community College's Rock Ensemble class is holding a class performance on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at the Duke Theatre.
Directed by Liz Broscoe, the suggested donation is $5 with all proceeds going to Encompass Youth, a South Lake Tahoe-based 501(C)(3) nonprofit.
Broscoe, a talented and renowned percussionist, will also be performing.
The doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. show. The Duke Theatre is located on the Lake Tahoe Community College campus, One College Drive, South Lake Tahoe.

Even though two of the planned Adopt A Day sponsor crew members were unable to attend due to being under the weather, the sponsor crew arrived with two ‘substitute’ team members to replace the ailing Tahoe Green Dispensary employees.
45th annual South Lake Tahoe Cancer League See's Candies sale

Lake Valley Fire releases holiday truck schedule

This year, they are trying to add a Santa Tracker, so once available it will be posted here and on the fire department's social media.

The prescribed burns will take place over 22 acres with an estimated 230 identified piles to burn.

While dry weather and above-average temperatures prevail for the first half of the week, a series of low-pressure systems will produce periods of showers and gusty winds on Wednesday and Thursday. A return to quiet weather is expected for Friday and over the weekend.

In a 1:30 p.m. time certain agenda item, the BOS will discuss an urgency ordinance to prohibit the establishment, operation, use, and/or participation in a syringe exchange program within the unincorporated areas of the County to "protect the public health, safety, and general welfare of its residents."

It is a canine infectious respiratory disease complex (CIRDC) but exactly how it is circulating is not clear, and if it is a new bug or changing dog factors at work?
What is clear is that dogs have been getting sick to varying degrees.

Emily Abernathy is organizing the event again and is working on making it a fun, special tradition for South Lake Tahoe and the whole south shore.
The event will start with a map of the decorated homes available on December 18, but the public's help is needed now to make it a success!

She was just about to graduate this Spring from LTCC. Destiny was loved by countless hearts and has left her impact in each and every one of us. We miss you Destiny!

Prescribed burn of 27 acres in Christmas Valley starts Saturday
Submitted by paula on Fri, 12/01/2023 - 2:49pmUSDA Forest Service firefighters are scheduled to begin burning 27 acres on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023, off South Upper Truckee Road in Christmas Valley. Smoke will be visible and may continue for several days depending on conditions and weather.
The weekly schedule originally had this area as being burned 11/29 - 12/1, but ignition was delayed.

Tahoe casinos "win" figure $19.4 million in October
Submitted by paula on Fri, 12/01/2023 - 7:00amNevada’s nonrestricted gaming licensees reported a total “gaming win” of $1,315,114,434 for October 2023, according to the Nevada Gaming Control Board's monthly report released Thursday. This amounts to a 2.69 percent increase compared to the same month a year ago when licensees reported a gaming win of $1,280,702,499. For the fiscal year to date, the gaming win has increased by 2.85 percent with $5,198,575,459 in "win".
The "gaming win" represents the computed income of casinos before business expenses and taxes.

Santa and Mrs. Claus were the hit of the night that also had treats and hot chocolate, face painting, crafts, a photo booth, and a station for writing letters to Santa.
The benefactor of the new BGCLT clubhouse, the late Lisa Maloff, loved celebrating the holidays with the kids, and her favorite color was pink, so her memory was evident with the tree and its pink lights.

New local hockey team name revealed - Tahoe Knight Monsters
Submitted by paula on Thu, 11/30/2023 - 7:56pmLAKE TAHOE, Nev. - The much-anticipated name for the new ECHL hockey team making its home at the Tahoe Blue Event Center was announced Thursday night in front of over 1,000 enthusiastic local fans. The Tahoe Knight Monsters will start playing at the new center in October 2024.
The team's colors are teal, gold, and black, and the event center was decorated in those colors and the Knight Monsters team name and logo are portrayed by a dragon-like creature that resides and rules Lake Tahoe.
USFS issues new food and refuse storage order for Lake Tahoe Basin in 2024

Kiwanis of Lake Tahoe distributes 500 coats to South Lake Tahoe children

The generosity of the Kiwanis of Lake Tahoe Club provided 500 coats and socks to local students over the past few weeks through its Coats for Kids programs.
Kiwanian Margie Kovarik-Maxhimer spearheads the program and works with Operation Warm, Costco, FedX, and other partners to get the coats at a good price and then free shipping to South Lake Tahoe.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - Xtreme International Ice Racing is headed to the Tahoe Blue Event Center on Friday, February 2 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, February 3 at 3 p.m. The racing event is presented by Reno Cycles & Gear. The action-packed event has racers going 0-60 in under three seconds.
Speedway bikes and quads will be modified to compete in the indoor ice arena. There are over 2000 metal studs added to the tires and there are no brakes on the bikes.

Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/29/2023 - 8:27pmLAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - Entries into the annual new mooring lottery can be submitted by lakefront property owners starting December 1. The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) conducts the drawing which is allowed under the Lake Tahoe Shoreline Plan.
The TRPA said they will conduct a mooring lottery until all allocations are distributed.
The Shoreline Plan, approved in 2018, places a cap on the total number of moorings and piers allowed in the Tahoe Region and establishes an annual lottery system to allocate a limited number of new moorings.

TRUCKEE, Calif. – On Saturday, December 2, bring the family to celebrate the community and holiday spirit among the exhibits at the Donner Memorial State Park’s Visitor Center located at 12593 Donner Pass Rd., Truckee. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the day will be filled with Junior Ranger activities including painting the Chinese Double Happiness symbol, Interdependence River, a Donner Party coloring activity, and animal pelts of local wildlife species.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - The Tahoe Event Center is hosting a name and logo reveal party for the new pro hockey team on Thursday, November 30. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the announcement will be at 6 p.m. with the event ending at 8:30 p.m.
Fans will have the chance to score merchandise and receive the first look at season ticket pricing. There will also be tours of the new event center. There will be prizes to win, meet staff, and enjoy food and beverages.
Andy Tube Tribute to honor South Lake Tahoe man killed in car crash

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The family, friends, and co-workers of Andy Martinez are still grappling with his death from a two-vehicle collision on Pioneer Trail on July 5, 2023. The recent high school graduate had worked at Tube Tahoe during the prior winter and his former employer, Tube Tahoe, has created the inaugural "Andy Tube Tribute."
On Friday, December 1 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., Tube Tahoe will honor Andy by sending the first tube as a tribute, and kick off the season in his name. There will be hot chocolate and sweet treats provided by Lake Valley Fire.
Douglas County celebrating the holidays with community parties, parade, and concert

There will be food, entertainment, music, a Christmas light show, and fireworks. Take an electric carriage ride around the park with the family and build memories that will last a lifetime.

Take Care Tahoe asks people to store “Take it Slow, Tahoe” signs for winter
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/29/2023 - 9:43amWith winter weather on the way, Take Care Tahoe is requesting that all “Take it Slow, Tahoe” yard signs be removed and stored indoors for the winter. Over 1,000 yard signs, which were distributed to the public in May, were posted in neighborhoods throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin to remind drivers to slow down for pedestrians, cyclists, and wildlife.
Knights of Columbus holding Sock Drive
Submitted by paula on Tue, 11/28/2023 - 10:37pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Knights of Columbus St. Theresa Council 10611 will be holding a sock drive to help those in need in the South Lake Tahoe community through the month of December.
Boxes will be placed around the community and at St. Theresa Catholic Church for donations of new socks, the most requested and needed item at homeless shelters.
Help out someone in need by donating a pair or a pack of socks. The socks will be given out directly to those in need at the Bread and Broth Monday meal on January 8, 2024.
Any and all donations are greatly appreciated.
