Douglas County Sheriff’s Protective Association endorses Judge Johnson for Tahoe Justice of the Peace
Submitted by paula on Tue, 02/27/2024 - 8:58amDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County Sheriff’s Protective Association (DCSPA) has issued an endorsement for the current Tahoe Justice of the Peace Judge Michael Johnson to retain that position.
DCSPA President Justin Fricke made the announcement on February 25.
“I am honored to receive DCSPA’s endorsement,” responded Johnson. “These Douglas County deputies and sergeants are vital participants in the judicial system and have been in a position to observe and evaluate my performance as judge, so I accept this endorsement as an affirmation of my judicial service, past and future.”

Box Lunch is one of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) El Dorado's biggest outreach and fundraising events each year. They work with community partners and volunteers to make and deliver over 3,000 pre-ordered lunches to schools, businesses, and individuals throughout El Dorado County from South Lake Tahoe to El Dorado Hills. All funds raised through this event directly support recruitment, training, and ongoing supervision of CASA.

Lake Village fire displaces residents
Submitted by paula on Mon, 02/26/2024 - 6:58pmSTATELINE, Nev. - Firefighters from the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District (TDFPD) responded to a home fire on Holly Lane in Lake Village on Monday, February 26. The call came in at 11:25 a.m.
Three engines and two rescue vehicles responded. The teams were able to knock down the fire quickly before it spread to other homes and condominiums. The occupants were able to escape without injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and there is no estimate of damage though the home is not inhabitable at this time.

Letter: Tahoe needs housing solutions, not a vacancy tax

Our community is leaving town at increasing rates as they continue to get priced out. “Locals for Affordable Housing” has been very vocal in publicly advocating for what they claim is a solution: a vacancy tax.
It is not. The truth is, those in our community who need housing solutions the most would be hurt significantly if this tax measure passed.

Starting at 4 a.m. Monday there is a Lake Wind Warning in place until Tuesday at 4 a.m. Expect winds from the southwest 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph and waves 3 to 5 feet for Lake Tahoe.

SNO-Parks offer safe and fun space to enjoy the snow around Lake Tahoe

The parks offer cleared parking for vehicles, and opportunities for non-motorized winter activities including cross-country skiing, dog sledding, and snow play. A handful of SNO-Parks offer access to both motorized and non-motorized activities.
Using the SNO-Parks keeps drivers off the sides of US50, SR89, and SR88 where cars are often parked in the lane of travel, with young children walking along the roadway and/or sledding into traffic.

SLTPD has been doing a significant amount of proactive directed enforcement towards any possible Fentanyl in South Lake Tahoe after the overdose deaths of four residents on February 12.

Parents are encouraged to register as soon as possible. Registration is also open for all grades through 5th grade at this time.
Once the online enrollment is completed (https://laketahoe.asp.aeries.net/air), LTUSD will need additional paperwork (see below). Your school of residence will contact you for a registration appointment.
Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe keeps slopes open late on Fridays, announces other specials

For the rest of the season, the resort will stay open two additional hours on Fridays, spinning select chairlifts until 6 p.m. and making the most of longer days and mid-winter snow conditions. The two-hour extension of its operations on Fridays allows skiers and riders to take “bonus runs” or kick off the weekend with an afternoon on the mountain.

Country music stars Dan + Shay embark on their Heartbreak on the Map Tour this month, and it has been extended into the summer. The three-time Grammy Award winners will have Jake Owen and Dylan Marlowe on the tour with them.
Their Lake Tahoe stop is Sunday, September 15 at 7 p.m. Dan + Shay will be the new coaches on The Voice for the upcoming season.

Five ultra-athletes will retrace the steps of John "Snowshoe" Thompson's inaugural mail route which he began on January 3, 1856, from Placerville, Calif. to Genoa, Nev., 90 miles away and across the snowbound Sierra Nevada.
The Snowshoe Thompson Expedition team will complete their journey over five days and carry a GPS tracker enabling live updates of their progress which followers can track here.

Submitted by paula on Mon, 02/19/2024 - 7:16pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Have you heard of The CAPP FUND? Back in 2020, a month before the world shut down, the CAPP Fund made its debut. A small, all-volunteer nonprofit located in South Lake Tahoe, the CAPP Fund intends to increase access to higher education by helping local high school seniors with the costs of 4-year college application fees. The goal is to give more young adults the opportunity of a college education by taking away the small barrier of the application fees.
Two more waves of stormy weather for Lake Tahoe to start off the week
Submitted by paula on Sun, 02/18/2024 - 10:41pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A Winter Storm Warning is in place for the Lake Tahoe Basin until 10 a.m. Wednesday. After a fairly mild Sunday before the next storm system arrived, a wetter storm is now in the area. It is expected to bring heavy wet Sierra snow with good spillover rains into lower valleys though daytime highs remain mild. The timing of the heaviest rain/snow will be Sunday night into Monday, but heavy snow showers will likely persist through early Wednesday. Significant impacts to travel are likely in the Sierra to end the holiday weekend.

It was the Chamber that
- Pushed for the building of the Utility District to handle sewer and water to protect the Lake
- Initiated the incorporation of the City
- Started Clean Tahoe
- Gave the first contributions to start the Boys and Girls Club
- Helped write the Lake Tahoe Restoration Act
- Helped to bring the annual Presidential Summit that has since brought a billion dollars in environmental benefits to Lake Tahoe
